Kaolla2 - beta
alright, heres a basic build of kaolla2 coded by nIRV, designed by me.
dont expect too much tho, its just to show you this thing is gonna happen, and its a pretty good job for the time it was built in. any feedback is appreciated. but try not to point out obvious problems [like the lack of buttons, and the text anti aliasing]. those things will come later. kaolla2 beta2: download kaolla2 beta2 for 9x machines: download Last edited by jasonl; 5th January 2002 at 19:46. |

Ooooohhh!!! Too sexy for my desktop!!! Its so techie I am afraid to touch it without reading the instructions manual first
Can't wait to see how you do the windows, the mods on the Minibrowser are cool. The song ticker font is kinda small but you have room so that is easy. You have space for more buttons, can't wait to see how you work them in. Good work!!! ![]() Website: Template vbulletin skins by exaltic.com Skins/Coding: D-Shock, Nebular, Triton |

nIRV will be doing most of the coding for this one, he now belongs to the Reva Designs team.

hi guys,
like lucas said, I'm now in charge of porting kaolla2, the cool psd of jason, to a skin everyone can play with on winamp... lucas will continue working on eps, ohe3, and probe... the rino, just don't bitch here and there when you don't really know what is really going on please ![]() this is a beta so there's tons of things that are not working or absent (just to name a fiew, a eq switch on/off, repeat shuffle xfade, etc.) and the component window are not skinned... but as time goes, it'll be done. peace |

here are some alternate links in case the download link no longer works, which it is likely to do because my web host is going bust:
Kaolla2 for NT machines: download Kaolla2 for 9x machines: download currently the component skins are being designed. and what are peoples opinions on the exclusion of the colour management from the skin? does anyone actually use it? i prefer to think that kaolla2 doesnt need to [and shouldnt] have its colour scheme changed. it gains much of its aesthetic appeal from the fact that the skin's blue works particularly well with the white sections. |

Very well-done skin. However, I still have a few minor gripes.
![]()
As for color controls, I personally think that it would look very good with a orange-gold color as well... maybe let us decide, eh? If winamp³ offers something that can't hurt, I'm of the opinion that skinners should make use of it. |

molotov, I don't think there will be semi transparent background in the windows because it's cool 5 min then we don't really care after, plus it slows down the whole system ALOT because there is some dynamic objects over it.
The font problem is a problem related to winamp which I hope will be fixed in the next beta... it doesn't load custom fonts included in the zip when the skin in zipped, unzip it into a directory in /skins , it'll work like a charm and will look darn good ![]() Shadow is up to the skinner, I don't think it needs some shadow though ![]() how and, thanks for liking this skin )correct links for download (hey sawg, do you still have place? )Version for NT: http://www.ampskins.150m.com/skins/kaolla2b2-NT.exe Version for 9x: http://www.ampskins.150m.com/skins/Kaolla2b2-9x.exe |

You've linked us to an .exe installer, and it does unzip to a folder. The font is, nonetheless, cramped and hard to read at that small size. The letters blend together and look like a solid blob of white.
Shadows, in my experience, really do help give a little depth to the skin. Kaolla is a very 3D skin, but on a desktop that has other stuff on it in always-on-top mode it looks odd and slightly flat. At least make it an option for those of us who have the horsepower to enable it. |

molotov, sorry I know what's your problem and it's still a winamp problem but this one is already fixed in private betas so in beta3, it should be alright... in the mean time, you can download the 9x version which will work like a charm ... I will try to work out something for you...

Huh? I get a hotlinking error like thepyr0x. I tried right clicking and "Save Target As", but no luck. The older links give error messages, as well.

Sertmann -
It has to do with the anti-aliasing of the font. In the short run, you can edit one of the xml files and turn antialiasing to "0". THe problem should be fixed in Beta 3. Make sure you're not using the .wal, but have actually unzipped the .wal file. Then you'll get the better font (not sure why the TTF doesn't worked zipped, though.) ![]() - Jarsonic do justly | love mercy | walk humbly |

new version
Kaolla2 - Beta 3
We worked days a nights (not really) to get this new version out. The main window is now finished and jason is now focusing on component skinning and winshade mode too... Skin can be downloaded here (and it'll work more than 10min) http://www.revadesigns.net/kaolla2/kaolla2b3.exe (thanks to lucas) http://www.public.asu.edu/~abarber2/wa/kaolla2b3.exe (thanks to sawg) Here's a brief history since the last beta beta3 ===== Addition: - added close, go to shade, minimise buttons - added xfade, repeat, shuffle toggle buttons - added the eq on/off toggle button - added songinfo text - added antialising on texts - added shadow to the main window Visual: - visual change on background png and the glass pngs too - visual change on the play button - visual change on the volume Misc: - kaolla2 is now packed with nsis and detects your os - tweaked the background used on 9x and NT4 machines - modified the right window texts placement - cleaned up player-normal a bit, much nicer now enjoy, nIRV and jason |

9x users that uses kaolla2 and find it crashing after 40sec...
a) removing antialising on the time text in player-normal.xml b) download the file attached and overwrite player-normal.xml (rename the file first) Antialiasing seems to be broken only with a text that displays time... Will fix this in the next release peace |
