Winamp 2.90 BETA here

http://www.nullsoft.com/cookie/

What's new:
-----------
* added integrated full featured video support (NSV and DirectShow (AVI,ASf,MPEG,etc))
* added library (complete with media database, shoutcast listing, playlist editing,
CD listing, mass tag editting, plugin API for portable devices, and more!)
* updated Winamp's window docking code to be more robust/extensible
- made AVS dock use this new API
* updated PCM equalizer with code from 4Front Technologies/George Yohng. Quality is a lot better.
* updated equalizer default skin to show the true +12db/-12db range (the 20db was a veeery old typo)
* a ton of new WM_WA_IPC API calls.
- general purpose plugin window support
- extended metadata system for getting more than just title/length of items.
- lots of exposed features via IPC
* updated to PP's latest input and output plugins
* focus/Z order change on window close related bugfixes
* added track numbers and song lengths in HTML generated playlists
* removed all ATL code, shoved EXE size by 20kb
* added digital audio extraction in in_cdda.dll
(needs WNASPI32.DLL under Windows 9x/ME)
* added Alt+M shortcut for minimizing Winamp
* added Ctrl+(Keypad +)/Ctrl+(Keypad -) shortcuts in playlist editor for changing font size
* fixed stop after current menu item trash related bug
* added ultravox support for in_mp3
* made in_mp3 not display 'unknown X' for empty id3 tags
* fixed & error in tooltips in winamp and winampa's systray icons
* and more!
* new SDKs will be posted soon.

Known issues:
-------------

* the minibrowser page says "upgrade". =)
* running a fullscreen visualization plugin when playing video (or vice versa) can be bad
(i.e. cause Winamp to quit). This appears to be a directdraw issue, we'll figure out why.
* new extended skin format may change for 2.90, so don't distribute new skins too widely.
* some AVI/MPEG/ASF/etc videos may be flipped, due to directshow weirdness. We will work to correct this as much as possible.
* Some MPEG2 video decompressors (latest PowerDVD one apparently) may have issues with playback.
* Many more configuration options and fixes should be added in the 2.90 to 2.9x land. Enjoy.

-Nullsoft

Hot Damn...this is cool. It's fast, cool-looking, and easy-to-use. You guys rock!

Dougieha

edit: OMG...and the video! With fullscreen controls that rock...and it's centered! I normally don't go nuts over something...but this is what I've been waiting for Winamp to be for years.

My only complaint is still the EQ.

i honestly cant stant to listen to OGG in it with my EQ preset on. sounds horrable.

This is my preset: (going by what this 2.9 beta says)

+1.7, +6.7, +3.6, -0.6, -3.6, +8.6, +9.7, +11.2, +11.6, +12

With it set to that in 2.81 (2.81 shows the dB higher due to the "old typo"), my music sounds god-like, including ogg, but with 2.9, cant stand to listn to ogg with it, or higher bitrate mp3.

Can there be a 2.9x build with the 2.81 EQ?

Ill post my eq file.

Narrowed it down to an old input plugin in I had installed ages ago, in_adlib.dll. I never use it anyway, so its toast.

I must say I am very pleased with this release. I cant wait for future releases! (well, I can. And will. You know what I mean.)

I added my Music directory (15,000+ files) to the Media Library. Everything worked like a charm. I quit winamp, then opened it like half an hour later. And I get this error. I cant seem to narrow down the problem either.

All I know is I had to trash the MLs main cache to get rid of it.

WA2.9 beta includes in_vorbis v1.2.2. This is not the latest version from PP. v1.2.9 is (or even 1.3.0a). BTW, I suppose that all 2.8x plugins work for this version, right?

You assume correct.

Anyway, that error of mine happens EVERY time I add my music directory and the close and open winamp.

No luck narrowing it down...could it just be the size of my collection?

just some questions about plug-ins:

why do you use an outdated version of in_mod beta14?
x-fixer released beta29 long time ago and it's much better (and take less disk space)
you can download it here: http://x-fixer.narod******download/in_mod.zip

the same for in_vorbis (latest version was 1.2.9 and you use 1.2.2)

Even with latest in_vorbis.dll, ogg still sounds bad on 2.9 with my eq preset... so it isnt an in_vorbis.dll problem....

Few suggestions.

Some people do not want winamp to play videos by default, But we love it to play music.
Why not make a default installation/associated file types profiles?
Examples:

Video/Audio: all files assigned to play with Winamp.
Audio: All Audio files assigned to play with winamp, but the plugins of video installed to play video occasionaly.
Video: All Video files assigned to play with winamp, but the plugins of Audio installed to play audio occasionaly.

Amazing! Great Media Library, Video Support (wich I personally don't use that much. And it doesn't use any more resources on my system then my old 2.81

Guess my Winamp 3 might have to go soon as well.

Been back to two for a while anyway. Although I hope they keep up the good work on 3.

Great Work WINAMP!

Library views: Column size not saved

Created a new view (Query: type = 0).
Resized the column "Artist" from the Artist view and changed to video view or "local media" and then back again: Column width not saved. Same applies to the Album view.

yes?

The usual workaround is to type this into the Open/Add Location box:
mms://217.13.4.182/stream.bb.broadpark.no/dc1_high/.wma

Hmm . . . but this might only play the audio section, not the video section.

/me goes away to ponder on this one...
maybe it needs /.asf ???

Gapless playback for audio cds doesn't work at all even though digital extraction is used.

edit: even worse, last 2-3 seconds of all cd tracks are chopped off

edit2: ok, bug: the last x seconds of all cd tracks are chopped off, where x=value of buffer length in buffering section of out_ds. This has to be fixed soon, it's very frustrating, I have to use CD Reader again... I'm using W2K+SP3, no ASPI installed.

Ok, I'm looking into this...
Audio only for me too
(which is expected, seeing in_wm.dll only handles wma audio)

Trying /.asf instead just enters an endless buffer loop
mms://217.13.4.182/stream.bb.broadpark.no/dc1_high/.asf

Where did you get the mms:// url from originally?
Was it from an .ASX playlist file?
If so, try opening the ASX playlist instead.

DirectShow input plugin should be handling all video files
(mpeg, mpg, m2v, avi, wmv, asf)

If .ASX isn't supported (not sure at the mo), rename it to *.ASF
or create your own ASX/ASF playlist with Notepad:

Don't know if this is the place for bugs but it is the only place I found so far so.....

Using the media library, after resizing a couple columns, the column headers turn white and unreadable. Also, if the column headers turn white and I try to open Internet Explorer with Winamp2.9, I first get a save dialog box asking if I want to save something from Google.com (looks to be something to do with my previously installed Google toolbar). IE will then open if I hit "cancel" but doesn't load a page. Then more importantly the whole Win98 operating system goes a little crazy. I can't access the start menu and the things I can access have the weird system font for all the text. Once Winamp2.9 shuts down everything goes back to normal except the start menu which when pressed will only show the Windows98 logo bar and not any start menu components.

Yes, this computer does suck (as I said before it is the one I use at work) but this is still rather interesting stuff that is going on. I have reproduced all these errors several times.

Grabbed 2.90 beta, and its running great for me.

I have two questions though.

1. it seems to me that the volume is a LOT lower on 2.90... I have to crank my WAVE and Winamp volumes to get a decent level. Is there any reason for this?

2. The media library doesn't seem to use OGG Vorbis tags... it just dissasembles the filenames, and gives me a lot of really messy artist entries.

Any solutions or answers would be much appreciated.

Using the media library, after resizing a couple columns, the column headers turn white and unreadable.

Same thing happens using the scroll bar.

Also...when starting a stream from the library window,
this appears. (see attachment)
Would it be possible for that to run in the background,
and not pop up on screen?

And how do you clear the library window of it's contents?
