Surf on Internet = port 80

Port 80 != Port 8000

I doubt there is any port you can use without your school network admins forwarding a port.
Running a server (which SHOUTcast is) is much different than surfing the web. When web surfing the router sees where the traffic came from and routes the incoming response back to the machine that made the request. When running a server the router just receives request and does not know where to route it unless the network admins configure the router to forward all requests on a certain port to a specific IP on the LAN.

I, too, am having the same problem:

<05/21/03@20:25:52> [source] listening for connection on port 8001

<05/21/03@20:25:54> [source] icy-irc:#shoutcast ; icy-icq:none ; icy-aim:BigSexyRoleModel
<05/21/03@20:26:05> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave error (nak)
<05/21/03@20:26:05> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Cannot see your station/computer (IP: 166.102.254.192:8000) from the Internet, disable Internet Sharing/NAT/firewall/ISP cache (Connection timed out))

Now, I'm as certain as I can be that I don't have a firewall set up. Anything else I should look out for?

Apologies if this is in a FAQ and I missed it...

Time for the bot.

Two (or less) easy steps:
1. If you have a firewall, open the necessary port(s).
2. If you have a router, configure it to forward the necessary port(s) to the DNAS machine.

Check out the Sticky post titled:
SHOUTcast: Important Info & Answers to FAQs. READ ME!

Scroll down a bit and look for the section titled:
DNAS Stuff -> Errors -> Fixing [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Cannot see your station/computer (IP: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxx) from the Internet, disable NAT/firewall/ISP cache (Connection timed out)

Are the necessary ports open in your firewall and are they being forwarded to the DNAS machine?

Check out http://www.radiotoolbox.com/cantheygetin and see if the reported information there helps.

Hi again
I dose that check I get that result >>>

130.243.97.72:8000 is Closed

Reason Given: Connection timed out
More about this error: This means that you are most likely behind a firewall, this error esentially says that you and your computer aren't there. You might also check to be sure that your ip is 130.243.97.72, if it is not then you are behind some sort of proxy.

I know I'm behind that IP (130.243.97.72) with (10.1.36.20)
Sooooo what I can do now?
Plzzzz some help...

I thought I explained this but I guess not. Unless you talk to the network admin for your school there is NO way you can get rid of that error and NO way people outside your LAN will be able to connect to your station.

I didn't really read this whole thing, but I skimmed it.. Your at a university right? If you are, and they are filtering and/or blocking ports.... well, like someone said before, then your hosed cause you can't get them to open up ports for you. Well, you could try, but I doubt they would. Hah.. if you arn't at a uni and I'm way off track, then I should really learn to read threads before I reply to them huh.. heh heh heh.

rolemodel: well, the only other thing it could be maybe is that your provider blocks ports so you don't run something like your own shoutcast server? What kind of connection are you on? I've seen some ISP block like port 80 and 25 and stuff so people don't run their own shizzle. Kinda crappy if you ask me.. those people pay for internet service.. they should get it unrestricted.. ugh.. lame.. anyways.. any possibility your ISP blocks ports or something?

RoleModel,
If your running WinXP disable the built-in firewall. Also see the thread in the READ ME! at the top of this forum for more info.

It probably is if your not using a firewall and your directly connected to your ISP.

Its possible that they filter all inbound traffic to your host.... in that case you won't be able to be a shoutcast server no matter what... :/ try some obscure ports like 65342 or something and see if that works then.... who knows.. maybe...

nope.. not too big at all.... valid port numbers range from 1 to 65535...
of course, 1 to 1024 are pseudo-reserved port numbers... but use anything between port 1025 and 65535... hell.. maybe even try some like 22 or something haha.. If you do port 22, I hope your not running an SSH server haha.

Okay guys,

It looks like nobody has put this down so far in THIS thread but I thought I better highlight this.

If you are getting this error

<DATE@TIME> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave error (nak)
<DATE@TIME> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Cannot see your station/computer (IP: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8000) from the Internet, disable Internet Sharing/NAT/firewall/ISP cache (Connection timed out))

then the Shoutcast Directory is not connecting back to your computer. If you have already unblocked (for firewalls) & forwarded (for NAT, etc.) port 8000, then there is 1 more port you haven't looked at.

Its the YPort listed in the Shoutcast Server config file - defaulted to port 80.
Quick fix would be to change this port to the other specified in the config file (ie. 666). Then unblock & forward that port.

Regards

CPhoenix

YPort is only outgoing so it shouldn't need unblocking/forwarding.

However, depending on how tight the local fiewall rules are, it may indeed need aoutgoing access.

Good call. This is one step (often the last) that I often forget.

Bot updated.
