You won't get anywhere here without first dangling a suitable carrot.

Its just the way the world works.

And it might help if you provided links to said sites... people want anh idea of what would be expected, what they'd be making something for and all

just give the links. I'll tell you why we would want to see the sites: Since it seems we would be doing it for free, and since winamp skins take a lot of time to make, no one will do it unless they happen to think that they'd enjoy it. If someone sees your site and decides that they like the look of the site, and would enjoy making a skin that matches - or if seeing the site gives them a few good ideas for the skin, then they'll be much more likely to say yes to the whole thing.

Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny.

Yup - people are much more likely to donate 20-80 hours or so of their time if they get a looksee first and either it's 1) an interest they already have, like a musically-oriented, art-oriented, or even a particular hobby they are already interested in and want to see good advertising and treatment for, or 2) the site itself and idea behind it is something that peaks the interest/brings ideas to mind we want to get down "on paper". Anyone interested could contact you for specific logos or images you wanted included, easy enough

If you want to be taken seriously, then stop being so ambigous. Your ambiguity only makes you sound like you don't really know what you want yourself.

What does the site look like?
What is/are the predominant theme/s of the site?
What is it about your site that you most want represented/accentuated/highlighted by the skin?
What else do you expect from your skin?
Do you wish for someone to make the complete skin/s, or just help you make your own?
If you're paying, what are you paying?
Are your sites up and running?
If not, when will they be?
When do you want these skins made by?

Personally, I've been thinking of making a website skin for a while, because I made one once, and found it quite easy, fun, and hence satisfying. But I, for one, won't bother following this up until I see less ambiguity and dicking around.

Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny.

So, are you fine with someone making the entire skin, or do you want to do some/all of the graphics yourself?

As for learning how to do the skinning part, it's very easy.

Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny.

So I repeat: Do you want someone to show you how to do it properly and help you with it, or do you want somebody to make the whole thing themselves?

By the way, what's the friggin' point in making a website, which is going to be available to people over the entire globe, when you're so secretive that you don't even want the people who would potentially be making a skin for it to see it?

Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny.

how could anyone be interested in the first place when we dont even know what the site looks like?..especially if its gonna be for free.

we tried to help, and if you dont want it then fine, but there is no need for name calling.

.....and if you think winamp has more "dicks" then devart, then you are completely blind my friend.

The point is that if you want someone to do you a favour, and you approach it in as half-assed and disorganised manner as you did, you make yourself look like some kid that doesn't know what he's talking about nor what he wants. If, after repeated requests and enquiries, you still can't be bothered to clarify what you are actually asking, for the people you are asking it of, no one is going to bother to go out of their way to try and find out themselves. Which is why no one from here bothered.

I'm a dick because I tried to squeeze all the relevant information out of you? How the hell is anyone going to know if they're interested if they have no idea what you're asking of them? I mean, you never ended up even telling us whether you wanted us to make a skin or to teach you how to skin - two completely different things. Instead, you expected us to come running to you begging to find out just what sort of favour it was that we were going to have the privelege of doing for you. Come off it.

Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny.

How is doing something for 180$ a favor and non the less a buisness thing. Of course noone is going to want to do it to a site they never seen. But half or more of winamp skins are just abstract, not for a site or anything but have a reason, you cant really see it but you just go with the flow. So just think of it as something for fun. Also, devarts ppl are awesome. You just need to establish respect in your artgroup then noone will give you beef.

Up until your last post, the thread has basically gone like, "Hi, I'd like someone to make two skins for me based on my websites. I might be willing to pay somewhere between 1 and 1000 dollars if someone agrees without knowing anything about the websites. For all they know, they could be porn sites and quite illegal for half the members here to even look at, much less make a skin about. Thanks! StillWater's a dick!"

No offense, but you haven't really made the effort to get out any information that people would need to know before even considering making you a skin. Telling how much you're willing to pay in the last post was good, but perhaps it took a bit too much pushing to get even that out of you.

Depends on what hourly rate you are used to get.
If you want to make it appear a little more serious, go together with the host of a skin publishing site, and donate them some money to organize a contest.
That way you would get a couple of skins to collect from.
180$ still sounds a little too low for that.

The reason I didn't respond - and I'm not trying to offend you, I'm merely telling you the truth - is that you seemed so vague and non-specific about the whole thing, and it was so hard squeezing just the basic information out of you, that I thought there was a reasonable chance that it would be even harder getting any money out of you once the skin was finished. The internet is an uncertain place to do business in at the best of times, so you really should come across in a direct, organised, and lay-your-cards-on-the-table way. A stranger who vaguely mentions that there might be some kind of payment for a task that he describes in an equally vague way definitely won't win much trust with me, and I daresay with many people.

Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny.

If you'd said that earlier, people probably would have been less reluctant to contact you on their own. Anyway, good luck with your site.
