Last night
Last night, in my wallet, I had:
- $200, a loan repaid by a friend - $150ish which I got out of the bank about a week ago - $370 which I was paid on Wednesday - $370 which I was paid last night Totalling about $1,100, all this cash was in my wallet last night. I had planned to make a deposit of about $1,000 during my lunch break on Monday - tomorrow. So, yeah, last night, I was down at a servo (service station) with two mates, we were getting some mixers for the Baileys and Scotch I'd pilfered from my employer earlier in the evening. I took a fiver out of my wallet, then realised that I had the necessary change so as to not have to break another fiver, so I put my wallet down on the confectionery shelf in front of the counter, and fished in my other pocket for the change. I paid the guy, and we headed off. I left my fucking wallet there. I realised about an hour later that I'd left it there, we jumped in the car and flew back, but funnily enough it was gone. The guy behind the counter graciously gave me a pair of rubber gloves so that I might fish around in the bins outside in the hope that whoever took it might have taken the considerable amount of cash and discarded the rest of the wallet in the bin. Nope. The servo has a security camera, but the guy apparently "couldn't" get the tape from it until the boss/owner comes in on Monday morning, and the tape may or may not automatically write over itself every few hours, unless there's a serious crime and it's stopped, for evidence, etc. I got the owner guy's card, got the attendant's name, and went to the cops to file a report. The cop said he'd give the servo a call, but it was up to the servo people to show us the tape. I think the servo guy took the wallet. I called the servo owner guy this morning, and he said, surprise surprise, that "Oh, shit sorry man, the camera wasn't recording last night - we've been having problems with the picture, it's due to get fixed soon... Sorry about that mate." I think the attendant too the wallet, split the contents with his boss, and everyone lives happily ever after. Fuck. Bother. God damnit. I had to forget my wallet during the night on which its contents top $1000... For fuck's sake. =( No-one to blame but myself, of course. So, that was my Saturday night. How was yours? -jaz |

Shouldnt you be able to sue on account that the cameras were not recording as they were susposed to be? Isn't that incompetence?

Man, I am so glad that wasn't my wallet! It contains all of $6.00!!!

Man, that sucks. I know how you feel though, i've done it myself (though not with that much cash). It's not just the cash lost, but running arround to replace all your cards etc.

well couldnt he call in witnesses to explain where the money would be? his boss tells about the two $370 paychecks, the friend about the $200, and aa bank statement about the $150 should do the trick (although you would have to prove that all that money stayed in your wallet..)
My advice is to start drinking heavily. - John Belushi, Animal House |

so what you do is go and rob the place (the cameras are out) and get some money back.. probably not the 1000 but you know, a few dollars...

Jaz, take this as a learning opportunity. I'd suggest you do one of two things, or both. Get a wallet with a chain and/or don't keep your money in your wallet. Both for me... I keep my cash in one pocket, and I keep my wallet in another whilst it's chained to my belt.
It sucks that it happened to you, but let's hope it doesn't happen again.

Christ, that majorly sucks! Damn! I don't know what else to say. Sarge said it best. Also try to put it perspective. If you had to lose $1,100 or someone you love, it makes the money look less important.
Think positive my friend. I see no stinking sig! Do you see a stinking sig? |

OK my friend, since they have been having trouble with their camera here is what you have to do now. Revenge. Grab two friends, ski-masks, and a vehicle. Take the back license plate off. Back up to the store and ram the doors, run in with crowbars and whatever other weapons you want. Also...very important, wire-cutters. Friends go in and start keeping people scared, make noise, cause confusion. You take the wire-cutters, cut the wire to the register and take the whole damn thing and run. Whole thing should take about...oh, 45 seconds. AT MOST! Go back again tomorrow though, ask if anyone has since turned in the wallet, of course they will say no, but do this: act pissed, say "DAMN IT!" and smack the side of the register. This will allow you to test for whether or not the register is secured to the counter or if it is only there via the extension cord.
Happy smash and grab ![]() /edit massive spelling errors. |

actually, smash and grab robberies are one of the most successful types of robberies. They happen so fast witnesses don't get a good idea of the criminals appearance, and the camera in these stores usually are shit quality, and some even only take still shots every X seconds, so it will be hard to see anything if they keep their heads down. All they have to do is wear layers and their weight won't be able to be estimated either.

doesn't make it not dumb, dlink. I don't know about Jaz, but I know I'd shit my pants if the bartender pulled a gun and blew a hole in my friends face while I tried to hack through the Register's cord.

that is why the jobs get set up like this
1)jaz, he gets register 2)other guy, makes commotion, knockes over shelves, etc 3)very important! first guy in, wearing body armour if available, takes out clerk w/ a bat, crowbar, a tackle, whatever non-lethal means necessary. or, to make it better, stake out the place and do it spur of the moment when a young or old woman is the clerk. |

Tomorrow the title of the thread won't make any sense jaz. "Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?" |

*bump* so how did the smash and grab go jaz? I revised the plan, it takes 5 people now, and spans a few (2) days for setup and such
Day 1: Go to store again, ask if anyone has since turned in the wallet, of course they will say no, but do this: act pissed, say "DAMN IT!" and smack the side of the register. This will allow you to test for whether or not the register is secured to the counter or if it is only there via the extension cord. If it is only there via an extension cord, then procede to step two, else, find a different store. Day 2: wait until sundown. After it gets dark find a vehicle, preferbly a truck, in a parking lot and steal it. Use this vehicle to back into the store doors and start the confusion. One man stays as driver, three others enter the store. One man knocks over shelves and creates confusion amongst the customers if there are any. Second man, with protection, takes out the clerk. 3rd guy gets teh register by cutting electrical cord with wirecutters. Wear Rubber Gloves! After the register is secure, hop in vehicle and take off. Whole process should take <45 seconds. This is where the 5th guy comes into play. You drive to a meeting place where the 5th man is waiting with a vechile you own. You park the stolen vechile in front of a fire hydrant and get into the owned vehicle and drie away. Why in front of a hydrant? So that the car will be towed. The footprints and tiremarks that the tow-truck and worker make will cover yours up. Genious, I know. Important Notes!: -Whoever is cutting the wire, wear electricians gloves. -DO NOT KILL ANYONE! Murder only makes the cops try harder. The case has a better chance of being dropped if there are no serious injruies. |

At least in Theory? yeah It's a 50-50 shot all the time ...I know which side I'll sit on thanks...Sorry to hear it Jaz, been there and paid the Tax as we call it. Do as the Sarge say's is the best idea I've seen.
<edit> Just a thought, They may actually be liable under there 'Public liability Insurance'. or If it is a requirement of that insurance to have this form of equipment (which is usually the case),then they would be liable if the equipment wasn't working. Give's ample scope for investagation, as they have said to you that they are waiting for it to be repaired. In that case a 'Paper' trail indicating that fact would exist. If not then there lieing and you then ask Why? Most cases you'll get a settlement. Hvae to get the cop's on your side first though..... Music is Life, Love and Happiness :|: Life is Music. We do this at work. We are asked to do a "drop" thats where we take all, $10's, $20's, $50's, and $100's and put them in a bag and drop them into the safe. We also have a sign on each till facing the customer saying "Till attendant does not have access to the safe". So your SOL if trying to rob us. Unless you tired it when we are in mid rush and I would look at you and laugh...until a gun was pulled out. But best, you would get maybe $300 from one till, and there is 2 video cameras from 2 diffrent angles in the store recording 24/7. I came for the hatred. I stayed for the ballbag. |

Fuck Jaz, that’s a bitch. I do almost the same thing from time to time just because money isn’t that important to me. I’ll leave it somewhere and just forget about it –man I can be dumb sometimes.
