winamp 3 style playlist in winamp 5?
I just wanted to know if the much better winamp3 style playlist editor is going to be in 5. I doubt if I could ever go back to the way it was in 2 where you lumped everything into one playlist, or you had to manually create several playlists and load them seperately when you wanted to switch. I rather enjoy the playlist editor in 3 where you have different playlists in the right pane and it was easy to send things between lists with just a right click.

Seeing as Winamp5 will be using Winamp 2.x's core, I don't think it's going to be possible because it means changing the layout or whatever of the PL and thus breaking a lot of Winamp 2.x skins.
That's at least what they (the moderators) say. I, too, really miss the Winamp3-style PL. I can't believe they're going to stay with the Winamp 2.x-style PL, a step back IMO. |

I agree, that's fairly disappointing. Multiple playlists is as nessecary as having directories in dos. (msdos 1.0 didn't have directories) IMO

I never did use the multiple playlists in Winamp 3. I just turned the sidecar off. The directory tree playlist plugin was the only thing the sidecar was good for in my opinion, and even it was useless when you got the Media Library. Is the Playlists section of Winamp 2's library not good enough or something? Or even the Audio views of the library? In my opinion, if they would add support for the library to check certain folders and update automatically, that part would be almost perfect.

I tested WA3 for a week, and as many others I didn't like it. I never really used the multiple playlist feature, but the thing i like most with (nerdy) programs like Winamp is the amount of features that just exists. You will never know when you're going to need something you didn't need before, and that's why there should be multiple playlists in WA5.
I've heard some rumours too. People think WA5 is going to support WA3-skins, although the engine is mainly from WA2. Is that true? |

I used multiple playlists religiously in wa3, it was very good for keeping your music sorted properly plus you could have all different kinds of music loaded up at the same time.. It was mint.

oy... they were never "taken away." no one's forcing you to use wa5. just use the dang wa3 if you like the features so much. try some of the dev builds, and see how much better, faster (though some features missing, since they're dev builds) they are than the original release.

well, if you'd all been here to defend it when winamp3 was getting a huge bashing . . . then maybe things might've worked out differently... too late now.
At least you can load multiple playlists into the library, then load these from the playlist editor without having the library open. It's a start. Maybe an "advanced" type playlist window will be included in a later 5.x release (in addition to the standard one)? There's been plenty of discussions about this recently... eg. here |

I just use the media library, although its bigger than the 3 style playlists, it does do the same job, so I like it.

I hate how the media library is now. I wish that it acted like the playlist editor when you have to current playlist selected.

there has been some talk that maybe the playlists will be different.
eg: Classic skins will use classic PL and Modern skins will use a different PL, the more wa3 one. I'm not sure on the solidity of this statement or if it's possible, but it's nice to think of .

it is sorta like the new winamp 3 playlist editor. just go to media libiary and click on playlist. then add a new playlist rename it put songs in it and do this for how many playlist u had in winamp 3. thats what i did. then close media libiary and click on (any skin cept winamp2 skin)list then click on open playlist from media libiary and theres all ur playlist thats loaded. id take a pic cuz i like to do that but screenprint is broken and i cant get it fixed. i hope this helps.

Ok my question is, what are multiple playlists. i have about 20 playlists in winamp5 in the media libary they seem to display fine and everything. are these not multiple playlists??? i don't understand what everyone is talking about really. i have a playlist for every artist/ compelation i own, and a playist for each genra, as well as one for my entire music collection, (and one for my entire music collection subtracting adam sandlers comic storys) that seems like multiple playlists to me :S oh well, maybe i am confused.
