. Now i cant open winamp. Can anyone tell me how to fix it?

In addition to what Cheezychops indicated, at the very LEAST make certain that all these file extensions in Preferred Media are selected (highlighted) as well...
wal (for all Winamp3 skins) m3u, bpl, b4s and pls file types (all playlist files) Also make sure that any other file type(s) you want Winamp3 to be associated with are selected there also. If you want Winamp3 to play all media files and in fact act as your default media player, then press the ALL button (which is what I do). *Note: You should manually close Winamp3 after you make any changes, to allow the application to save all your settings to the preferences file (studio.xnf). Winamp3 saves preferences upon a successful and proper shutdown. Then when you reopen Winamp3, all changes should be in place. ____________________________________________________ Additional info: Under "Protect Associations", I suggest that you also "checkmark" these options in the checkboxes to the left of each one... Register types on Winamp start Maintain media type settings In addition, you may also want to checkmark "Enable Winamp Agent" (to prevent other applications from "stealing" the associations from Winamp3) Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. This will also benefit others who may have a similar question or problem. But before posting, please first Search the forums and read all FAQs and all Sticky threads. Anyway... when you installed Winamp3 did you by chance UNcheck any of the defaults already checked in the installer? Seems that you might have. In that case, completely uninstall and reinstall Winamp3 following the exact procedure I outlined in this thread. But do not UNcheck anything during the installation process when you reinstall. Leave everything "as is". Let us know how it goes. |

"Unknown field type encountered"
Did you recently download a 3rd party component for Winam3? That error message may be related to buggy Winamp3 component. If so try uninstalling the component. |

Right I did what you said and uninstalled it and installed it again. I didnt unmark anything. I downloaded the patch but when i install that it comes up with this (shown in screenie). So i did what you said again and it still opens up windows media player. Even when all the things are checked.

Make sure you install the patch while Winamp is not running. I am leaving for work now, so I may not be able to reply again until this afternoon (my time). Good Luck

CLOSE Winamp3 when applying any patch.
I already indicated that in the instructions in the other uninstall/reinstall thread I asked you to reference... Quote:

Well ive found out a way if i really want to listen to a broadcasting.
1.Find one thenn right click on the "Click to listen" button. 2.Then i choose "Open link in new window." 3.As soon as the window opens i have to take a screen shot before it closes and opens winodws media player. 4.Look at the screenie and press Ctrl + L on winamp. Then i have to write the really long URL. This is very annoying and i have to be quick and it takes ages. Can anyone help me? |

Any broadcast?
eg. all those from www.shoutcast.com ? I need specific links, with specific file formats/extensions! What version of WMP? What browser and version? If IE6, see this thread for instructions on how to disable the embedded Media Toolbar player. |

Ok, heres a question I’ve yet to find a working answer for…..
I’m using the Winamp/Shoutcast software to broadcast to the net. I’m sending audio into the sound card from a mixing desk, I want to compress/process/limit the said audio as I broadcast it. I’ve tried using all sorts of audio compression /limiting software, but when I try to broadcast with them I always get the same message. “error opening sounddev!” Without resorting to using a piece of hardware, can this problem be solved? Plus if this is possible where can I locate a download that will work? |

Please post all Shoutcast Broadcasting related issues/questions in the Shoutcast forum, not here. Someone there, with more specialized knowledge, should be able to answer your query. Besides, you're probably using Winamp 2.x and not Winamp3 (note, this is the WA3 Tech Support forum).
Personally, I'd suggest using the DSP Stacker plugin with a relevant DSP Compressor/Limiter plugin . . . |
