5.01 rip failed

Ripping Tools Undertow CD, get window pop-up error - Error ripping track #1, can't open decoder, aborting. Same error whether I rip single or all tracks on CD. Get same error regardless of settings (mp3, or AAC, native or Sonic ASPI), reboot doesn't clear it either.

I have put about another 30 CDs through Winamp for ripping, they're all OK, so this one is an exception.

Put the same Tool CD in Musicmatch, it rips fine without error.

DJ Egg's Fix for this problem

Installing the WNASPI32.DLL in the Windows/System32 directory is what fixed it for me, hopefully it does the trick for you too.

I had a similar issue with a Dave Matthews Band CD, decairn. I have a feeling that it is related to a form of copy protection on the CD - Unless... Hey - did your CD have blank tracks on it? Mine did, and they are generally used to hide or delay a hidden track. If so, that might be the bug in the sonic engine.

Oh, and when I used the fix from DJ Egg, it worked.

Sweet, thanks for this fix. The Sonic engine apparently has issues with reading the correct position to start or end particular tracks.

I've found various CDs now of mine that when ripped with WinAMP + Sonic, at the end of a track would be a repeat of a half second to a second of the very end of that track. Switching up to the WNASPI32.DLL from Nero and using WinAMP has corrected this problem in all cases.

edit: oi, didn't mean to bump such an old thread. Didn't bother to look at the last reply date, but just wanted to say thanks.. >.>;;

Problem had been irking me for awhile..
