K-Jofol skin plugin
Good evening,
Over the past while I have been involved with updating the port of the K-Jofol default skin for Winamp3 to make it compatible with Winamp 5. The resultrs are here: http://www.fusionamp.com/Nullsoft_Skinz.htm#K-Jöfol_V5 During the process I have installed the K-Jofol program and also different K-Jofol skins for that program. Some of those skins are very good. I was wondering if anybody would be up to the task to make a plugin so these K-Jofol skins could be used in Winamp 5. You can find the program and a nice selection of its skins here: http://www.fusionamp.com/K-Jofol.htm Thank you very much for your attention. Wally ![]() |

K-Jofol was an audio player, born in the late '90s, but development was stopped in 2000 when its creator went on to bigger and better things (Winamp).
The last release was the beta you can download from my webpage, link in signature. It was a pioneer for the use of freeform skins, of which you can find a couple dozen of the best ones, also on the same webpage. ![]() |

yes yes, this would indeed be lovely
![]() Especially if the K-Jöfol vis could be emulated on Winamp5 aswell, so it wouldn't be replaced with the basic Winamp5 vis. This would, however, pretty much require large chunks of the K-Jöfol app itself to be included in the plugin, or so I'm guessing... |

there was/is a xmms plugin for this and i have out of curiosity looked at the source code but i personally think that a new re-write would be better so such a plugin would be optimised from the start for a windows/winamp setup. but that's my view on things... -daz |

Wow. I can run the freeform skins for this program on my old computer. Wally, i'm definitely making a skin for this program now. Is there anywhere I can submit it to once I finish or will it be for my own personal use only?
edit//DrO, can you tell me where you got the xmms plugin? I couldn't find it on xmms.org Never underestimate the bandwidth of a station wagon full of tapes hurtling down the highway. |

If you include a main, playlist and a dock and winshade mode, I will publish it on www.k-jofol.com

Is the winamp plugin expected to be as fast as k-jofol is at rendering skins?

nobby nobbs: it depends how the plugin is constructed.
if it emulates K-Jöfol skinloading, it'll ofcourse not be as fast as the real thing, but if it recreates native K-Jöfol skinloading, it should be as fast, or faster.. |

![]() ---------------------------------------- let me tell you a story... I have a lovely old machine who's called Oscar (why i can't remember but that's is its name) and he is now an old old machine but runs a treat still. Oscar likes these fancy new Modern skins but can't run them as well as would be liked ![]() . . . . ... why not get DrO to make a plugin to support these skins in Winamp and DrO went, 'yeah why not' (the gullable fool that he is) so... I'm the mug who's starting to work on this plugin. There is no time scale on any public/internal releases since i'm still really at the early planning and R&D phase of things especially on how to integrate a 3rd skin type into Winamp without breaking other things (as well as in the current light of things making sure that the skin extraction is secure and all that ![]() I'm doing this since i personally feel that K-Jöfol skins fit the gap between Classic and Modern skins that is needed ie light weight freeform like skins. All i ask is that you don't pester me on this (since graphics is a new field for me and should make this an enjoyable learning curve [yes i'm mad ![]() So in reply to an earlier question "so is anyone doing it? you?" the anwser is yes ![]() /me goes off to do some more R&D on this -daz |

I promise I won't pester you _that_ much.. hehehee... ![]() As I have a huge personal interest in this, there's a _slight_ risk I'll become the perfectionistic picky sadistic bastard people know me for in the Stargate skin project.. ![]() ....but I'll prolly be alright... ![]() |

![]() I just came to realise something, K-Jöfol doesn't have anything resembling a standardframe, other than the playlist editor, which would pretty much suck as a stdframe if left unchanged.. So, do you have any ideas on what to do with all the stdframe stuff? I have a few options that all pretty much suck: 1. Use the pledit skin for it 2. Use Default Classic skin for it 3. Extend the KSZ skin format with a stdframe Have you thought of something I've not? Oh, and work faster!! hehe ![]() |

the aim is to provide some form of default fallback be that the default classic skin stuff (which is easiest to do and has been how i've had things working with the early dev builds) or we have the base images required to make a default classic frame that'll match the k-jofol base skin. until i really get the dev time on it i'm not too sure how it'll work but the options above for an initial design are the easiest to under take
soz for not getting back to the thread earlier -daz |

for an initial design, I completly agree that using classic skin as fallback would be the easiest and probably best way. As you said, maybe make a classic skin resembling the kjofol one. Maybe even provide support for adding those bitmaps into the ksz (for other skinners to do the same)?? (maybe thats what you meant)..
But further down the dev process, I really think it would be best if a real stdframe extension was added to the ksz format, if not for anything else, then atleast for completeness.. Plus, maybe other media players with kjofol skin support would follow suite if you made such an extension..? |
