Plays a list for awhile, then hangs up and stops.... please help!
Our computer specs are as follows:
Mobo = A7N8X-E Deluxe Onboard sound RAM = 1024 MB PC3700 Processor = AMD 2800 400fsb We have a lot of music files on our computer, and therefore have long playlists. Winamp will play it for awhile, then suddenly just stop playing. It doesn't seem to matter what you are doing at the time... I can be using Microsoft Word and simply typing when it does it. It's not that it shuts off... it hangs. It goes to 0:00 and then refuses to play. When we shut the program down and try restarting it, it still won't play. The only way to get it to start playing again is to restart the computer, and then it only plays for a little while before it just stops playing again. there is no error message. We play only mp3 files and don't generally listen to internet radio. When you go to restart the computer, it has to shut down the mp3 files that winamp got hung up on before it shuts down the computer. When you press control/alt/delete, the file manager doesn't register on the applications that winamp is still running, though winamp.exe is still in the processes. Even if you shut down the processes by hand, it doesn't seem to make a difference. Restarting is the only solution we've found, and its only a temporary fix. Anyone have any idea what is going on, and how we can fix it? I would really like to figure this out, because after being a Musicmatch user and getting a lot of lag on the system from that program, I am overjoyed to realize that Winamp has none. I don't want to have to go back to Musicmatch, but if I have to mess with configs and download a bunch of plugins just to get a simple music program to run, I will. User-friendly is user-friendly. PS: This is a fresh install of Windows XP Pro SP1, and a fresh install of Winamp (as of today) with no plugins. |

Was that fresh install of Winamp the latest and greatest 5.04?
Maybe the following DirectSound config tweaks... http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....26#post1212926 Also make sure you have the latest updates for the sound drivers. Although you did say it was a fresh install of Winamp XP have you seen the following from the Common Issues section of the Troubleshooters Sticky?.... Plays mp3's for a few seconds, then stops (mp3university.com spyware related) http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=180475 There are other crash/freeze tips & fixes in the Troubleshooters Sticky |
