ATI X800PRO vs Nvidia 6800GT
Both cards are in the same price range ($400) and both cards are availalbe in the market today.
http://www.elitebastards.com/page.ph...d=1&comments=1 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Test system was on an XP 2500+, 512MB RAM, 40GB IBM, relatively low end system. That's what I like about these benchmarks. They're not done on rediculously overpowerered and pricey system parts. Full review at link above. The think I like most about Nvidia's cards is that it has PS 3.0 and more pipes. A real advantage for any game maker that decides to use the Doom 3 engine for future games, and there will be a lot of developers that will be making new games with the Doom 3 engine with support for PS 3.0. That's a huge plus for 6800 owners. Luckily for me, I have a connection that got me an X800PRO for $100. I feel so happy right now.

I got an XFX geforce 6800GT, and it is AWESOME.
Dual DVI output, and the auto-overclocking feature takes the clock speed up to that of a 6800 ultra. So it can be exactly like an ultra without the £120 extra cost, or the extra slot/power rail used. (Which i couldn't fit in my shuttle xpc). I can turn everything up to high (including both types of filtering) in doom3 (not ultra, heh) and have framerates always above 50. (At the natural res of my LCD monitor, 1280x1024) Basically, it rocks ass. DO NOT PM ME WITH TECH SUPPORT QUESTIONS |

In PC Gamer's review of both cards, the 6800 had a slight advantage in overall speed but required two power connectors and a heavier power supply. Both cards rock though!
Starbucks, that's a great deal ya' got. Get another and I'll double your money!

Cabowabo: thats the advantage of the GT model, it only needs one slot and one power rail. Plus it easily overclocks to 6800Ultra clock speeds. And clockspeeds are the only difference between an ultra and a GT.
I have a shuttle XPC with a 250W (yes, 250W) power supply, happily powering: Athlon XP 3200+, 1GB of corsair, 1 WD caviar hard disk, a CDRW/DVD ROM drive and a geforge 6800GT. I have had zero stability problems and my voltages are all within healthy levels. I think ATI and NVidia are in league with the PSU manufacturers, trying to make you buy new, expensive power supplies. DO NOT PM ME WITH TECH SUPPORT QUESTIONS |

Yes, the 6800 GT beats the X800 PRO, but when you start using higher end CPUs, and in turn cranking up the res and AA/AF, the X800 line start pulling closer, or in some cases(DX based games) ahead of the 6800. So, what really matters is, what games do you play?

Yeah, it's not so much as annoying, but it kinda takes away from a game to have jagged stairstep or something.
