Anyone remember CornerAmp?

CornerAmp rocked. The thing is, sometimes I don't want anything covering my title bar. So, I put my player in some corner. CornerAmp is still around , but it was pretty much abandoned a couple years ago. I tried using the version linked above, and it didn't work at all. I believe a have a stable copy somewhere...

Anyway, I just started remaking, from scratch, CornerAmp. Of course, I'll have to rename it. And yes, it will include all original artwork and coding. Although, if anyone wants to, they can help when/if I need it.

Here's a preliminary pic, to show what it'll look like. This is very early, so changes can still be made.

Although I wasn't a big fan of the original, I'm glad someone is making it usable for Winamp 5. Yours is looking good btw.

Tightening things up

I've worked on the play/rewind/etc buttons. I like them.

I tried working on the repeat/shuffle/playlist/etc buttons, and they suck. They suck bad.

I'm probably going to dump some of them.

Right now I'm thinking I'll dump the "open" button, as the playlist or Media Library are probably more useful.

I'll keep the playlist and Media Library, as I personally use those when playing MP3s. I don't play CDs.

I was considering keeping "crossfade" as it is a hard button to find otherwise, but I figure most people change this option to their preference when they first discover it, and leave it alone after that. So I'll probably get rid of it.

I might delete the equalizer button, making people use keyboard shortcuts or right-click to access it. I don't change the equalizer on a regular basis. Maybe others do; I don't know.

I'll probably keep the "Repeat" and "Shuffle" buttons. They're simple, recognizable, and easy to skin. Also, somewhat useful, even though I never, ever, use "shuffle."

And I gotta keep "Minimize" and "Close"

But they're ugly right now. It was just a test of design.

Yeah, nice idea might want to make it fit in all corners? (maybe that's the plan, never used the original) but I might wanna use this one... if it comes for upper right corner.

The original snapped to each corner when dragged there, that was it's selling point you could have it in whatever corner using four different layouts.

I kind of stole the idea for the corner mode of the K-Jofol port I did a while back.

Yeah; the original snapped to each corner. The copy I linked above does this horrendously. It is unable to recognize where the edges are, and keeps snapping incorrectly. This is likely due to my dual-monitor setup, and the fact that my start bar is on the left side of the screen.

But if I make mirrored versions, it is doubtful I'll spend time enabling it to snap to the top left, or bottom left. Every program has too much stuff in these corners. The top right is iffy. It will require a certain offset to make it snap about 20 pixels below the top of the screen. At the bottom right, it should snap about 20 pixels from the right side of the screen.

This should prevent it from covering the scrollbar or close/resize/minimize buttons.

But does anybody have a preference as to what buttons are important?

For example, does anyone constantly use "open," or the "equalizer" button? Because I don't. I want this skin to be small, but clear and functional. So if I can delete some buttons, I will. And all the bottons I keep will be relatively large (but maybe not appear so large until you hover the mouse over them), but labeled, so that it is clear what areas of the skin will allow click & drag.

You want even more buttons? Do you use them all?

But then, if I can simplify the icons, I'll probably keep all the buttons. I figure if I make them simple and non-distracting enough, it'd be nice to have them available on the rare occasion they're used.

The other option was a complete overhaul; making the skin smaller, because I know I have a lot of room to work with. I guess I'll let that room serve as an area to click & drag.

If I were you, I'd make it as close to the original as possible. You did say you were going to keep all the original artwork, no? And maybe you don't use all the buttons, but other people might, so I would opt for keeping them. Actually, I just downloaded this skin and tried it out (on WA 5.7) and surprisingly it did work for the most part. The buttons (cbuttons) went a little weird when placed in a corner other than left-bottom, but all else seemed to be fine. It seems you'd just need to modify that 450+ line corner.m file a little and all would be good.

No. The original CornerAmp is dead. I liked its basic idea, though. So I'm taking just the concept of CornerAmp and redoing it.

In other words, CornerAmp was designed to work in corners, and so will my skin.

I said all the artwork will be original. As in, made from scratch by me, and completely new and original.

I only mention CornerAmp because some people know of it, and maybe they could point out its strengths and weaknesses.

For example, it snapped completely to the corner; blocking all content below it. This is inexcusable. It would require some snap offset so it doesn't cover the various buttons or bars below it.

I also like the position bar and song name to be as long as possible. The volume should also be easy to change. I didn't even notice until now that the original had the song time in a very large font. So does mine. So, CornerAmp got something right.

It was not my intention to do a rip of CornerAmp. Simply learn from it.

Finished

Final design complete.

Obviously, this means the skin has barely been started. Now comes the XML writing, the button variations, and general tweaking.

Any input? Likes? Dislikes?

And remember; I invite criticism.

Well if you want my opinion, it looks a little bit plain compared to the original. Maybe you could add a shadow to the edge and to the play buttons. Otherwise, I like your layout better and the volbar and posbar are definately improved.

will pay

I would pay of someone can remake the ORIGINAL corner amp working with the latest versions of winamp. Contact me with a price and JPG if what you have made.

I am OK with it becoming public release I just really want it.

I don't want it to be EXACTLY like the original.l I was thinking maybe a corner shaped theme that resembles "hand written" but with a SLIGHT bit more depth (shadowing and color)

The better it comes out the more I'd pay. If you want to negotiate price before putting the work in making it then you'll need to send me some examples of working skins you've made.

I would also insist in 90 days of bug support so that I can use it and you can fix any bugs for the public release.
