Alas, David Biderman quit today, thus practically signalling the end. |

I would be interested to know what the former nullsoft employees or someone of AOL have to tell about the current situation. __________________ |

I should be happy with a new release but thinking that it might be the end of winamp makes me sad |

Most pleasing (I think)
The other day I installed version 5.07 and whilst listening to the beloved Duran Duran, I noticed that a perfect mp3 (one that doesn't have any jumps/errors in it) actually jumped/skipped for the first time. I then noticed this happening on other mp3s that I had previously examined and found to be not faulty - they were now in fact jumping at random times and places. __________________ |

Oh dear.
The problem I described in my previous post is still apparent. Piss. __________________ |

Pro askes you for your reg-code at install, full does not. __________________ |

5.04 and 5.02 were the exceptions, because 5.02 was where Justin left and 5.04 where Christophe and Francis left, and they all tried to fix as many bugs as possible on leaving. |

I'm now wondering if AOL's "AMP" will eventually replace Winamp |

LOL another sign of the death of the best player in the world... When you see that all they can release is an update with some "50 free mp3s" crap you know somethings wrong. Everything AOL touches turns to shit. I would totally support winamp turning open source, I want to see REAL DEVELOPMENT! Not AOL crap... Not long until AOL bundles winamp with something like spyware or their im crap. |

If you'd bothered to read the thread before posting, you'd find that there are two security fixes included in 5.08, which is the main reason to upgrade to 5.08 Full (see download link in first post) which doesn't include any emusic trial crap. |

I for one would not want an open source winamp. The damned thing would be loaded with code by unknown coders and end up so full of bugs one would not know where to start to get rid of them. |

and who would be elected to official release it? In the mean time everybody and his dog would release their own version suited to their own needs. |

Wildrose we were only trying to show a possible way for winamp to survive since the way things currently stand it looks as like each day that passes a little bit more dirt is placed on top of winamp's grave. |

Open sourcing won't allow Winamp to survive, it will kill it for sure. |

wildrose-wally just one question: why are you so against open source? (and same thing do Dj Egg) |

No because either Nullsoft revives itself somehow or Winamp is as death as the company. |
