communism is workable if you like to wear blinders about human nature and the history of mankind. Sure, it hasn't been "really tried" because people get greedy and fuck it up (just like capitalism).
To me communism is like the shroud of Taurin. It's really cool to look at, but if you actually tried to use it, it'd fall apart. So just keep it in a glass case surrounded by lasers. |

I hate that people say that in theory communism works, to me that is absolutely ridiculous, if it doesnt work in reality then it deosnt work in theory.
Take this for example, if we had no law enforcement and no police force then "in theory" that would work according to the same mentality, but you have to take into account how people behave in any system |

"No law enforcement/police force"
If you are insinuating that the Soviets had no police, then I have beachfront property in Nevada to sell you. Haven't you ever heard of the KGB and other secret police organizations throughout Soviet history? If you are giving an unrelated example, then I don't see how anarchy (true, there could be a government, but with no means to enforce, then it is essentially an anarchist state) and communism are related. Communisnm works in theory as much as capatilism works in theory. powered by C₈H₁₀N₄O₂ |

Communism would be a good idea if people weren't inherently greedy and lazy.
It would work good for robots. |

Plus dvd's fo £1, cd's for £1, mp3 players worth £60 for £20. Communism rocks for tourism. |

Communism fails because as a government there needs to be people in charge of it, but if people are in charge they are therefore not equal.

But the people will never agree. The government needs to have some sort of power over the people, otherwise they will never achieve anything.

Sure but, as in a democratic system, the government would only have this power because it's given to it by the people (who, as a whole, generally realize that things work better this way, actually they're often more than willing to give some leader total control), and there would have to be some kind of balance of power.
And according to Marx the communist revolution was supposed to happen after capitalism had eroded the classic institutions, including church, family, state and government.* The bolshevik revolution happened much too early, in a mostly pre-industrial and entirely undemocratic country, which was another cause for its failure. *What Marx maybe didn't take into account was capitalism's abitlity to use the classic institutions to counter its own self-destructive tendencies, as well as to transform them into capitalism-compatible institutions (and moral standards). So the people give the leaders power. They choose the leaders. That doesn't mean the government will be perfect, especially once the leaders realise that they can hide things from the people and put things in their pockets without anyone noticing.
I often naively tell myself, "if I were president of Peru, I would not be corrupt. I would tell myself that my salary is enough and I would concentrate all my efforts on helping the country. Why is none of the presidents in Peruvian history like that?" I have no idea what it would be like. I suspect I would somehow be drawn into the filth of politics as a president, simply because people throw shit at you. |

It would have to be transparent, you mustn't forget that communism mostly came to power in countries without any democratic (or human rights) tradition (others, like czechoslovakia, were forced under communist rule), one could say they simply kept large parts the authoritarian and corrupt systems before them.
As I said, the transition to communism was supposed to happen when governments would be much weaker and people would be used to not relying on the state but taking care of a lot of things themselves (basically a lot was based on the idea of collective self-organisation hopefully rendering states and governments increasingly obsolete, the opposite happened: the state took control of the collectives). I'm not saying it'll succeed (and even if it will, certainly not the way it was conceived ~150 years ago), however saying it's completely impossible reminds me too much of all those who claimed democracy was impossible too and without an absolute monarch there'd be chaos and terror. |

It's a nice idea, but there will always be greed. It's more attractive to be greedy if you have some sort of power. Unfortunately those who "rise to the top" these days are often the greedy, the callous, people without much in the way of ethics or a conscience.
I don't hold much hope for my country. It'll never change. The gap between the rich and the poor keeps widening, and with an increasing population, dwindling natural resources and no hope whatsoever of the US being fair, the outlook looks pretty grim. A good start would be to have a president with balls, like Brazil's, to tell the US and their foreign economic policies to fuck off. A second good step would be honesty. It's amazing how much the country loses through corruption, at all levels in the government. |

Pah, I'm not pretending to be an adult and you know it! The thread you linked to just seems like you have ADHD or something, you're all over the place and it really doesn't make sense. I couldn't figure out if you were trying to be funny or just really, really scary!
