Winamp 5.091 rewriting winamp.m3u
Hi, the new version of winamp is fully rewriting the Winamp.m3u after closing winamp (seen at filemon). This takes ~30sec. and winamp makes a cpu usage of 99%. With my older version of winamp (508e) there is nothing like that. It's closing immediately.
Is that a bug or is there a function to disable this? sorry for my english! ![]() x-lock |

I can't reproduce this in 5.091, WinXP, clean install.
According to my process managers, I see Winamp consuming about 50% of my CPU on shutdown for a fraction of a second. The dynamic playlist "insert_your_winamp_directory_here\Winamp.m3u" is overwritten everytime you close Winamp, unless you have it checked read-only. This is a feature of Winamp. What are your system specs? Are you using any third-party plugins or skins? They aren't supported. Can you post a text file of the log that your program filemon records as Winamp is consuming your entire CPU? Thanks. |

I also have this problem with 5.09 and 5.091. I'm running win xp sp2 with an AMD 3200 with 1 gig of ram. I did not have this problem in 5.08e or any other previous versions. I'm wonding if it only has a problem when there is a lot of mp3's in the list, like 70K (which i have).
When you tested it, did you have have close to that many in the list? If you think it may be a plugin, what kind of plug-ins may 'cause this? exactly what kind of log do you need and where/how can i get it? I can see clearly that it's writing the winamp.m3u file and that it pegs my cpu for about a minute. |

Should this similarly be the case with x-lock, I apologize. There have been a few threads concerning this lately. Here's one linked below and if I can find more, I'll let you know:
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....large+playlist It seems to be a recurrent issue with 5.091 as well as 5.09. Let's see what I can turn up. For the time being, sFanky: Do you have ANY third-party plugins? List them out here. Post a HijackThis log, as well as any diagnostic logs from the applications used to monitor your processes. ...and no I didn't have thousands of files in my playlist. I wouldn't have anymore than say 500 at the most ![]() jmat |

I'm using the folowing plugins:
Visualization: Geiss 2 (v1.0) (vis_geiss2.dll) Geiss for winamp (vis_geiss.dll) General: Titlebar Info 1.47 (gen_tbar_2.dll) Thats it for the plugs i believe. I've never used hijackthis so i'll have to look into that. I have no logs to give, just been looking at my Task Manager when i close winamp and seeing the winamp process take 100% cpu and also can see the winamp.m3u file being written in explorer. Is there any sort of logging i can get from winamp directly? I also have the same problem if i just 'save' the playlist, just like the guy in that other forum link you posted above. |

Hi, i have made a clean install of winamp without any plugins and the problem is existing furthermore.
If the pls is bigger, then it takes longer to close winamp. I've uploaded the filemon.log in a zip file, becuase the unpacked log is around 0,5mb. http://home.arcor.de/pr0n/winamp_filemon_log.zip My sys specs: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CPU Typ: AMD Athlon XP, 1800 MHz (13.5 x 133) 2200+ Motherboard Name: ECS L7S7A2 (5 PCI, 1 AGP, 1 CNR, 3 DIMM, Audio) Motherboard Chip: SiS 746 768 MB (DDR SDRAM) C-Media CMI8738 Audio Chip SiS 7012 Audio Device -------------------------- HijackThis log (only running processes): Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 17:06:59, on 21.05.2005 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Programme\Cherry\KeyMan\KeyMan.exe C:\Programme\NetLimiter\NetLimiter.exe D:\Image\refreshratefix\RefreshLock.exe C:\Programme\Eset\nod32kui.exe C:\Programme\Cherry\CDI\CDI.exe C:\Programme\Eset\nod32krn.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Programme\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe C:\DOKUME~1\Eddy\LOKALE~1\Temp\HijackThis.exe //EDIT here is the filemon log of winamp 5.08e. You can see winamp is saving the file in 1sec. (log contains the part with writing winamp.m3u only) http://home.arcor.de/pr0n/winamp_filemon_log2.zip Last edited by x-lock; 21st May 2005 at 19:01. |

This is a known issue and will hopefully be optimized greatly for 5.092 or later version. The issue being that before writing to winamp.m3u on exit (which all previous versions of Winamp 2.x/5.x have always done) an extra check is now made to ensure that no winamp/aol music/video entries from the Online Media views are stored in and written to the playlist. Naturally, the larger the playlist, the longer the check takes. The vast majority of people with smaller playlists will never notice anything.

In addition to what DJ Egg said, if you would like to disable this check, head to Preferences > Media Library > Online Media > Modify Preferences > Uncheck 'Look for new Online Media Channels on exit.'

No, that is a different issue entirely, and nothing to do with the issue at hand.
To see what I'm talking about, go to: Online Media > Winamp Video, enqueue a bunch of items, ie. add them to the end of your current playlist. Open Task Manager and (optionally) hi-lite the winamp.exe process Then without even playing any of the enqueued items, close Winamp. Watch cpu-usage spike for winamp.exe, then wait for winamp.exe process to die. Reopen Winamp, and notice that the entries you enqueued are no longer listed. This is the check that I'm referring to, and you'll find that it's the same with or without that option you referred to checked in Prefs. |
