Clicking a link in the ML does nothing
Winamp works for a while then:
after clicking a shoutcast audio or video link in the media library the reading http info box comes up and then disappears as usual. However, winamp then just sits there and does nothing as if i hadn't clicked the link at all. Sometimes if i clear my internet cache it fixes the problem but i usually have to go through and delete all my temporary files manually. does anybody know if there is a fix for this issue yet? Thanks |

considering it happens almost once every 2 days i think having to download a cache cleaner is not really very good. This is free software i know but come on, isn't it about time this issue was fixed?

Good idea, contact Microsoft. Cache corruption is a issue with Windows and Internet Explorer. Though if it is happending that much on your system, that is a sign of a bigger OS issue you might have.

All my other programs work fine (even internet explorer when i rarely use it) in fact my system never crashes. I'm not a programmer but don't you think other programs would crash if there was a problem with the os cache?
Also cleaning the cache doesn't always fix the problem. Sometimes I have to uninstall and reinstall winamp. by saying "contact microsoft" does this mean that nullsoft are not looking into the problem. The online TV service which I pay for uses NSV to stream their content so maybe I should complain to them. I just thought it'd be better to post here first. I have the same problem and crap cleaner nor manually removing temporary files and cookies didn't help.
What kind of problem is this?? I have tried to run an older version of winamp (5.09 instead of currently installed 5.093) and everything worked! |

Well, we still can't reproduce the problem, but could you all please confirm a proper clean install of 5.093 (not a reinstall, but a clean install).
All I can think of is maybe some problem with ml_win_media.ini (in the winamp\plugins\ml dir), or maybe one of the other config files (winamp.ini, gen_ml.ini), or maybe some conflicting 3rd-party plugin. The only other thing I can think of, if it's not cache corruption related, is shoutcast.com is being blocked by some security app or a custom Hosts file. |

Hi,
well, first I have tried just to reinstall, when it didn't work, I uninstalled winamp and installed it again, with the same results. I have no 3rd party plugins installed and shoutcast site is not blocked, because it actually loads the media library list, only when I want to play (or even just enqueue) any of the streams from the ML, it does nothing at all. When I try to play my own stream and I enter the address manually (using ctrl+l), it works. Plus, with an older version of winamp, everything works like a charm... Pretty strange. |

I have been having the same problem as well. I have done a clean install and am completely positive it was indeed a COMPLETE CLEAN INSTALL. I deleted every file that had anything to with winamp at all! Yet for some reason, whenever I try to to listen to shoutcast audio or watch internet tv nothing happens when I try to play something. I can't even put a channel in the playlist. I even made a new playlist and tried to do the right click move to playlist option and it for some reason trys to connect to a shoutcast server with the filename of my playlist in it. This is to say the least incredibly weird. Aside from formatting my entire hard drive and reinstalling my OP I have tried EVERYTHING else. There has to be some way to fix this.

I forgot to add that I made sure that no other processes but my vital system processes and of course winamp were running. This is weird beyond belief.

Yes, it's very weird.
I'm still not sure what's going on, but I'll get someone to look into it... If it was clientside then I'd expect it to effect all users, which it isn't doing. This leads me to suspect that it's serverside, possibly an issue with one of the shoutcast.com relay servers. Though like I said, I really aren't sure at the moment, mainly because jant77 said "with an older version of winamp, everything works like a charm". Yup. I'm baffled, heh. If anyone else has got any suggestions/input, then please feel free... [edit] This post seems to suggest it's something to do with using a proxy server. Can anyone else here confirm that they connect via a proxy? Or is that just unrelated/coincidental? |

I've been reading these posts with interest. Winamp worked for less than a day before it started doing this. Leerees' solution worked once, for about 15 minutes. Egg's un-reinstall instructions did nothing. For what it is worth, sometimes the sidebar menu says 'InternetTV' and at others 'Shoutcast'.
Since Egg's 'you might want to save these files' instructions were listed after his 'delete all these files' instructions, can somebody send me the URL for the 60s psychelelic music station. Maybe I can get that in from their website. Thanx. Jane |

So now you're saying that you can't even get the Online Media > Shoutcast Radio or TV lists to load at all?
Also note that there are two methods listed via the "clean install" link. Method 1 is the "Quick and dirty method" (no backups) The 2nd method is the "Full Uninstall > Reinstall" method, which starts with Backups. I can't be held accountable if you don't read ALL of the instructions first, heh. If by "the 60s psychedelic music station" you meant: Technicolor Web of Sound then the stream url is: http://209.51.162.163:2020 |

Can you all just try closing Winamp, deleting the file: plugins\ml\ml_win_media.ini and then reopening Winamp.
Probably won't make a blind bit of difference, but anything's worth a try. [Edit] Someone's just mentioned to me that they've seen this behaviour, but it's intermittent. Apparently, when it happens, they just switch to a different ML view and then switch back again, and everything works ok... Most weird

anyway, I'm going to try the clean install (the only thing was that I haven't removed the c:\winamp\winamp.ini, I don't have winamp agent installed so the winampa.ini is not there), but I don't think it will help And what do you mean by "different ML view"? thanks Jan |

"A different ML View" means one of the other Media Library Views in the left pane, eg. Local Media > Audio.
However, I still suspect that there's a serverside problem with shoutcast.com, possibly with one of the relay servers... |

I started a thread about this also, but it makes more sense to reply here
![]() Uninstalled and cleaned up, virus check, Spybot, Adaware, HJT on both machines. Default LITE install(with added Media Library) on both machines, both show the same problem : 'Retrieving playlist' box shows Typical URL - h**p://www.shoutcast.com/sbin/tunein-station.pls?id=1225&filename=playlist.pls [split] &wid=4BCFB86E83D148672D38640C847D1&uid=840EBD4B6A772AC71CEEA1C94&more=1 and EITHER Connecting to host... Reading HTTP response HTTP/1.1 200 OK and nothing plays. OR Connecting to Host... Error connecting to host... Currently playing stream dies. Unplugged the router and put one of the machines direct into the modem. Same results. Went to command prompt (Start > Run > type in 'cmd' and OK) Enter 'ipconfig /flushdns' Enter 'ipconfig /release' Enter 'ipconfig /renew' Seems to have fixed it ![]() Reconnected the router and both machines now working, though I'm still getting 'Error connecting to host...' some of the time. (Serverside problem I guess) UJ |

this was never fixed, its been like 5 years now lol and i still have the same problem and all my friends do aswell.
about 3 out of 100 odd streams work all of the others are the following: Connecting to host... Reading HTTP response HTTP/1.1 200 OK And then nothing plays. Since posting this topic I've emigrated to Spain and tried to use winamp in Poland, Estonia, Ukraine and Germany. All of which has the same problem. My friends back home in England all report the same. Only one of us (out of about 10 people) has it working and none of us can figure out why as he's accesing it from a corporate net with a firewall. |
