Possibility (option) to change Winamp back to writing ANSI tags (important!)

Hello,

as described in my other post, I am really unhappy with the new ID3v2 tagging feature.

It writes all ID3v2 Tags only in Unicode, and there seems to be no way to change this back to ANSI. Even Tags that have already been present are changed to Unicode without asking!

Most portable Players have problems with unicode tags.

So dear Winamp developers, could you pleeeeease add an option to write ID3v2 in ANSI, as it was before?

This would be very great... and I really would continue using Winamp!!

Best regards,

kzuse

Not sure if this is implemented yet...

but if/when it is, you can edit winamp.ini as follows:

[Nullsoft MPEG Decoder]
write_mode=0
read_mode=1
parse_lyrics=1
parse_id3v1=1
parse_id3v2=1
write_id3v1=1
write_id3v2=1

^hard-coded/hidden defaults^

write_mode options:
0 = WRITE_UTF16
1 = WRITE_LATIN
2 = WRITE_LOCAL

read_mode options:
0 = READ_LATIN
1 = READ_LOCAL

all other options:
0 = no
1 = yes

so you want 2 for local system encoding (or 1 for "proper" latin-1 encoding)

ie. write_mode=1 is the recommended setting for writing proper ansi tags.

Note, the id3v2 specs according to id3.org specify that id3v2.4 tags should be written in UTF-8 (winamp currently supports utf-8 reading but not writing), UTF-16 or ISO-8859-1 only, and NOT system locale (ie. option 2)

However, as I said, I'm not sure if those options were implemented due to lack of time, so if not, then hopefully they will be for the next release...

Thank you very much for the information, but unfortunately it doesn't work...

But I'll wait for the next release. Maybe you can then implement a checkbox in the in_mp3 Option dialog (the page "Titels / Tags" is sooo empty... it seems to long for another checkbox! )... so that the user can change it without having to modyfy the INI file.

But it would be already great it would be implemented anyways, I already edited my INI file... So I'll just have to install the new release and Winamp tags in Latin / ANSI again...

Regards,
kzuse

This is now implemented in the latest internal in_mp3 beta
and should all be working properly for Winamp 5.22

Note my updated post/settings above.

Hey.
I'm not quite sure if I understand, is there a fix available yet or not?
I really want to be able to make quick changes to my tags in Winamp without it messing up my mIRC WinAmp script, which is what it's doing at the moment.

there is no publically available version with the features in DJ Egg's screenshots implemented, that is scheduled for the next version of winamp which will be released when it's ready and not before.

Looks great so far,
but how about adding ID3v2.4 writing with UTF-8 Unicode encoding
in the future ? That would make it complete

I mean, Winamp now reads v2.4 UTF-8 tags properly, thx for that , but in order to make the ID3v2 implementation complete & future-proof, please also add writing v2.4 UTF-8 as an option.
