Cheap, But Beautiful.
I find this enticing. Perhaps I shall own one.

I'm more impressed by the quality of the model of that car than the car itself. I wish I had access to such high-end laser scanning equipment..

GM and Toyota are partners in some ways - Pontiac Vibe and Toyota Matrix are made in the same plant with different name badges (they have many interchangeable parts). Geo Prism and Toyota Corolla are the same as well. There are more but those two are the ones that come to mind.

Anyhow, I am considering one as well, due to its awesome fuel economy and reasonable price (even though I'm not too hot about the design of the front end). However, first I have to establish some credit, then turn 18 (which will happen in August). ![]() BTW, my current ride is an '86 4Runner. The reliability of this beast of a truck that is older than myself, has convinced me to stick with Toyotas. Yaris replaces the Toyota Echo - in the subcompact class.
A lil Toyota sub-compact history: Before the Echo was the Paseo, before that Tercel, before that Starlet. A Toyota Starlet once reached it's 1,000,000th mile on the David Letterman show. Dave was so impressed that he rewarded the guy with a beat up old Nissan Pulsar NX with 170,000 miles already on it, hoping the guy would consider bringing it to a million too. As far as the current Toyota cars go, one step bigger than Yaris is MR2 (last model year), then Matrix, then Celica (last model year), Corolla, Camry, Avalon. To answer the question - a corolla is much bigger than a Yaris. [edit] I don't know much about Scions yet - I test drove the tC and wasn't too impressed - I was expecting something that would resemble the celica or something sporty, but it was quite lame. Haven't paid much attention to them since; in other words, I don't know how they would compare to a Yaris. Don't forget to live before you die. ![]() |

I wish I could justify trading my Jetta for a new FJ Cruiser (stupid name, I wonder where they came up with that, and I already know about the FJ-40, 45, 55 and Land Cruiser, it just sounds too much like another car on the market today) but with fuel costs what they are and are going to be it is really hard for me to justify trading 35 (winter) to 50 (summer highway) actual mpg for a 16-19mpg EPA rating. Besides I don’t really need another full time 4X4.

Right, as I mentioned in a previous thread -
In the beginning there was Starlet... Then Tercel, Then Paseo, Then Echo, Now Yaris... I was speaking of cars available here in USA. I was unaware that the term Yaris was used previous to this year though. I keep forgetting that users on this forum are from more than just North America... I need to read more on cars available outside the USA. The Echo didn't sell well here - Usually when someone had the cash to buy a brand new Echo, they just spent it on a used Corolla or Camry. Hopefully for Toyota, people will be more willing to buy the Yaris - perhaps they will because of gasoline prices... The hybrid Prius is too expensive for that population, costing several thousand dollars more. Don't forget to live before you die. ![]() |

I don't know if almost any Toyotas are known for their looks - I can say that I honestly don't see my Camry or Tundra as the most hot looking vehicles, but looks aside, they're very much superior in reliability, practicality, all-around performance, and comfort; plus, they don't attract attention from cops.
Perhaps the Celica, Supra, and MR2 were good on looks, but you won't see them in production any more. Don't forget to live before you die. ![]() |

Toyota? - looks like a late 90's Lexus LS300 (which I know, is basically a '97-'01 Camry XLE V6 with different logos).
Looks like a great car though - don't ever let it go. I considered the 330 myself (300 was gone by the time I was in the market for a car), but I found the same features on the Camry for a few thousand dollars less, plus the insurance is more affordable. Perhaps some day I'll have a Lexus, but I'm not quite at that income level yet - I'd have to sacrifice too many other things to afford it. Don't forget to live before you die. ![]() |

Yes it is a '96 ES300, but like you said, Camry. She might have different badging, but she is still a Toyota. So there you have it, a 'hot' Toyota.
I love my car, and don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon. |

The Mazda 6 is huge and incredibly expensive compared to the Yaris. It is meant to compete with 'midsized' cars such as the Camry/Accord/Altima/Malibu.
The Mazda 3 is even too big, as it is targeted at the Toyota Corolla and Matrix in the 'compact' class. Yaris is a 'subcompact' car aimed at the lil Chevy aveo and other miniature (but easy to parallel park) cars. Don't forget to live before you die. ![]() |

Yes, the 6 is kinda on the smaller end even when compared to the other midsizers, but yes again, I think just about anything made these days is small compared to the ol' Crown Vic... I wouldn't want one for the daily commute, but I must admit, it's a great car to make out in...

I want a prius when my car kicks it. A nine month lead time on the prius is going to make things a little hard though ...
On the other side of that coin, I really hate the prius and driving manual cars. What I really wanted to get was either a Wrangler Sport or a Solstice (I know, completely different cars). However, I have to drive about 50 miles one was to work and with gas prices skyrocketing I simply can not afford to be in a car that gets 15-20 mpg. Come to think of it, I think we should all push our wastefullness to the side and seriously consider hybrid cars --- no matter if you are someone who wants to drive the biggest fucking tank on the road (ahem!!!! Original Hummer owners). This is, unfortunately, the only way we are ever going to be able to 'stick it to' the oil companies.... ![]() Last edited by fc*uk; 15th May 2006 at 03:42. |

Prius is kinda wierd - it uses a CVT (continuously variable transmission) which means there are no gears - you just go from zero to top speed without a shift.

I LOVE my 07 Yaris LB. The interier is actually very accomodating. I've easily fit 4 people in it with plenty of room. The rear seats slide back and recline to give the rear passengers more legroom than you would expect from a car that appears sop tiny. It is compact, but you actually sit much higher than otehr cars the saem size, so view is unobstructed.
The center console is a godsend! It takes less than 1 week to get used to, and once you use it, anything else feels archaic. No more peering around steering wheels to see your speed, it's very easy to see in all lighting conditions. (Not to mention the fantastic gas milage) THere isn't one thing I would change about my Yaris Lb. Absolutely love it! |

Even from companies who normally make great looking cars. The Jag XF has a nice Hyundai front end, shame its on a Jaguar. The BMW range is designed by a man with less talent than the man who productionised the Austin Alegro. The new Masser' Grand Tourismo looks like a Hyundai as well. Ford, the entire range bar the Mundayno. Peugeot, the entire range bar the 107. Nissan's new GTR is a real minger as well, shame cause otherwise its fantastic. It's swoopy, flashy, and not something you'll see on the road. Personally, I don't care all that much for it. I like my vehicles to have more angles and straight edges. Curves look best on women.
