Sort By Track Number

I have been using winamp for years and love it. All other players (including iTunes) drive me insane.

My only grip is, why the hell can't I sort by track number? Everytime I want to listen to an album the way it was created, or even worse I have a few non-stop mix cd's, I have to drag and drop each file in one at a time in the right order.

Is this just an oversight, or am I the only one who cares about that?

Thanks for your help.

Three options:

- If your files are in the Media Library database, sort the items there (by clicking the column headers) and then load them into the playlist editor.

- Put the tracknumber in your ATF string, and then sort the items on title:
Prefs (Ctrl+P) > Titles > Advanced Title Formatting >
[%artist% - ][$num(%tracknumber%,2) - ]$if2(%title%,$filepart(%filename%))

Playlist editor: click 'Misc' button > Sort (List) > Sort list by title

- Install ActiveWinamp, select the items you want to sort and use the 'Sort by track' script.

If you're bored go here or, if the boredom is more serious, here.

I have the same gripe. I think the above route is so round the houses and and you have to do it each time. it should be taken as given that pretty much everyone wants to listen to albums in track order. there should be a preference to automatically sort the playlist by the track # stored in id3

if anyone wants to listen to an album in song alphabetical order or track length order, then they can use active winamp. to me, having to use active winamp or advanced title formatting to listen to an album in track order means winamp is seriously missing a function.

i often use the PLAY ALL FILES FROM ALBUM right-click option in ML and it would be nice for them to automatically play in their original order without having to use SORT BY PATH/FILENAME or any of the other methods.

How about putting it like this:

When I enqueue multiple files in winamp (no matter whether through file manager or the add files button), their order is always messed up, no matter if the "when loading multiple files, sort files by name" option in prefs-genprefs-playlist menu is checked or not. Isn't that a bug?

I agree with the guys on keeping the correct order being an absolutely basic feature that one would take for granted, with no regard to media library or whatnot. I seriously consider downgrading to good ol' winamp2, although I was mocked at last.fm for sticking to antiques for no reason.

The way it is, I have to sort every album I enqueue MANUALLY and consider it a bit of scandal, especially with an application as classic as winamp. Yesterday, I was happy to find the misc-sort feature, but it only works with entire playlist, and not with selection, and that's not what I need.

I am sad about this and hope I will find help here.

This is possibly the most retarded thing I've ever seen in a music player. I used to love Winamp, but who in the name of all things holy listens to their music in order of filename? Not only should this be a feature, it should be default for any group of songs from the same album.

Seriously. Retarted. I'm going back to WMP.
