My new car
I bought a 2006 Chevy Cobalt LS yesterday. I finally got rid of the Jetta I bought a year and half ago that was giving me horrible problems. I'm pretty happy with the car so far.
Car Car 2 Car 3 I came for the hatred. I stayed for the ballbag. |

Congratulations on your new Chevrolet. If it lasts you half as long as mine do, you will be driving it for a loooong time.
My son is still driving a Camaro I bought in 1988. My daughter currently drives my '94 S-10. The search for the ultimate signature continues apace. I have journeyed from the peaks of Nepal to the depths of oceanic trenches. I have crossed deserts, jungles, swamps, savannas, steppes and frozen wastelands. I have consulted with seers, swamis, sages, scholars and savants. The peregrination proceeds purposefully. |

Nice colour. Personally I thought that Dukes of Hazard model 4 cars in the back in pic 3 was quite impressive to.

Nah, that's a different car. I know GM has ties with Suzuki and Daewoo, but I don't think either make the chassis for the Cobalt. I don't remember where it's made. Nice little car, though.

You had problems with a VW, so you buy a Chevy? Talk about a downgrade...
![]() j/k ![]() Coming from a Ford guy, those Cobalt's are pretty nice...Next to the Corvette, the Cobalt SS is probably the only current production Chevy I'd ever consider owning... ![]() Congrats on the new car "I just want to lie in my own crusty filth, eating rancid egg sandwiches, until some unfortunate paramedic has to blow down my door to find my bloated and pasty corpse wedged between the nightstand and mattress stained with Bengay and Robitussin DM." - Greg Gutfeld on sex and seniors "Syphilis does not stay in Vegas. I can afford this car and it comes with a full warranty. That was the biggest deciding factor :P. I was always afraid the Jetta would just stop running every day. The constant engine problems just scared the hell out of me. I came for the hatred. I stayed for the ballbag. |

The Cobalt is based on the GM Delta platform, along with the Saturn Ion, Pontiac G5, Chevy HHR, and an Opel but I don’t remember which model. If I remember right the platform (chassis) is developed by Opel now but I think the American models are designed (styled) here.

The Chevy Cobalt is made between my parents house (Mercer, PA) and mine (Akron, OH). The little town which basically has nothing but the car production plant, some places to eat, and a bunch of bars, is Lordstown, OH. A lot of people that went to high school with me make the Cobalts there. They make pretty good money and benefits - more than I did as a teacher, and almost as much as I do as a counselor, and they didn't have to spend a single day in college!
The plant used to make the Cavalier and Pontiac Sunfire (and of course the Sunbird before that) before the Cobalt replaced them. I don't know if the old Chevettes and Citations were made there, but that's going back a lotta years. BTW, the HHR which uses "An American Revolution" as it's advertising catch phrase is made exclusively in Mexico... Don't forget to live before you die. ![]() |

Back on the Cobalt - does it's frame/platform really match the pontiac G6? I thought the G6 was a bit larger than the Cobalt. I could be wrong though. Don't forget to live before you die. ![]() |

It's all part of GM's shitty corporate nomeclature that's recently been replacing actually giving cars real names. "Cadillac DeVille? Nah, let's call it the DHS." "Pontiac Grand Am? Pfft, let's call it the G6." I'm actually surprised that they still have a bunch of vehicles with real names, though. But come on, they couldn't think of names for the HHR and SSR? GM isn't the only one, either. Ford is doing the same with Lincoln. Oh well. I guess I shouldn't complain. They're just names after all.
At least Cobalt is a slightly more macho-sounding name than Cavalier. ![]() |

Cobalt - a mineral/rock, right?
Cavelier - a horseback warrier, right? some names make no sense in other languages, and therefore get replaced with letters and numbers. There are some that actually stand for something, but most don't. My old Volvo used to make sense - it was a 164 GL - meaning 1 series, 6 cylinder, 4 door (sedan, non station wagon) GL meaning grand luxury (all bells and whistles). Although I appear to be defending the idea, personally, I like a real creative name. Don't forget to live before you die. ![]() |

Cobalt, a blue mineral, hence the name "Cobalt blue"
Cavelier, horseback warrior yes, and also one of the sides in the British Civil war. And a Realy crap car by Vauxhall. Member most in need of SpellCheck Lifetime Achievement Award I'm a Twitch Streamer these days, it's weird. |

I know there's at least a 6 that you can ask for in the G6, but the standard engine is still a 2.4L 4 Cylinder.

I just wanted to shout out somewhere random that for once I'm very annoyed with my countries environmental laws. I really need a car this summer - and was seriously considering buying a used 1.6 liter Mazda 3 from 2000, that a friend was willing to sell to me for cheap. But even with my new job and pay raise to 70.000 USD per year - there is no way I'm going to be able to afford it.
