Hostnames vs. IP Address in SC Directory

hey all,

How do you get the SHOUTCast directory to reference and link to your stream by HOSTNAME as opposed to IP address?

I've searched on this on many occasion now over the course of years and have never turned up a positive answer. I had long concluded it is not possible but yet it was suggested to me today by a reliable source that it IS. So unless you can fully explain WHY it is not possible (if that is indeed the case), please do not reply back only saying it is not.
