Winamp Essentials Plug-in Pack
With each release benski, dro and I are putting out a pack of plug-ins that either didn't make it into the official release or that we can't live without. This is not an official Nullsoft thing, but something we winamp developers do in our free time. Included in Winamp Essentials 5.31: * Ogg Vorbis Encoder (based on aoTuV b5) (new) * Apple Lossless (alac) Decoder * Transcoder * Lite-n Winamp Preferences * ML Lite-n * Skins in submenu * Playlist Undo * Find file on disk (updated to v1.5) * Predixis Removal tool All this in a 212KB! Download Winamp Essentials Note: The FLAC input and encoder plug-ins are no longer in this pack, instead they are in the Winamp installer. Yay! DO NOT PM ME WITH TECH SUPPORT QUESTIONS |

Awesome.
Could the installer have options for installing in_flac.dll and enc_flac.dll seperately? |

Small correction:
Should be just aoTuV b5 (beta 5, 4.51 was beta as well, release version is at 1.0 (which is almost identical to beta 4.51)). Fuck this place. |

Hi!
Great release!!! Have only one question. Is there any chance to get some sse enhanced vorbis encoders for the essential pack like the one you find here: http://homepage3.nifty.com/blacksword/ These sse enhanced vorbis encoders are crazy fast, currently using libvorbis.dll (sse2) with belight. (I know there is a sse based plugin on the winamp site but its old and want a newer one if possible :P) |

A quick note about the new FLAC encoder. It's based upon a new implementation of the encoder called flake. Firstly, it offers compression levels from 0 to 12 (as opposed to 0 to 8 like other encoders). All levels should work with non-buggy decoders, but only levels 0 to 8 are recommended for full compatibility. Secondly, it doesn't put seek points into the file. Again, this isn't a problem when playing back with recent non-buggy decoders (such as all those based upon non-ancient versions of the reference decoder, and ones based upon the ffshow/mplayer decoder). Which is almost all. So if you want to play (and seek) files on some wierd decoder that requires seek points, i whipped up a little tool to add them to a whole directory of flac files. download seekpoints tool Simply unzip to a folder full of FLAC files and double click seekpoints.bat On the plus side, this encoder is very small (only 36KB, the smallest encoder in the winamp distro). It is very fast, over 3.5 times faster than the reference encoder for compression level 8! And I think it's pretty awesome. DO NOT PM ME WITH TECH SUPPORT QUESTIONS |

Woot. Thanks, that is a really nice changelog. The best Winamp ever (as usual). Kudos to Tag, benski, will and co.
Will the transcoder plugin be part of the winamp distribution at some point`? eeeee eeeeeee eeeee eeeee eeeee 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 88 8eee8 8e 8 8 8eee8 8e 8 8 8 88 8 88 8 8 88 8 88 8 8 8 88 8 88 8 8 88 8 88 8 8eee8 |

FLAC-files don't appear in media library, nor do they appear correctly in the playlist editor (just the track title, not the artist appears). Worked fine with whatever old in_flac I had installed.
Also, comment-field is a single-line text field, which isn't really consistent with other view file info's. Matter of fact, all those info dialogs are totally different. =/Otherwise, all 5.3 bugs have been fixed, thanks.

MasterVivi:
I cannot reproduce, in_flac works fine with the ATF. My string: [%artist% - ]$if2(%title%,$filepart(%filename%)) - $if2(%album%,No Album) Just works fine, all fields (artist, title and album) are shown in the playlist. I don't exactly know what you mean with the library, flac files are shown corectly here for me. Btw, big thanks to Will for updating the vorbis encoder (just take a look at the quality slider) and adding the encoder to the essentials pack. I cannot reproduce either. With all his problems his winamp installation/OS environment seemms somewhat troublesome.

thanks for this bug release 5.3.1 with your new mp3 4.02 dll which well displays the 3 lines of v2.comments.I'm happy to see 5.3.1 released as Firefox 2.0 and VLC 0.8.6-test1 so computer-programs are in a good way. |

![]() What problems? This is the only one, the others were the cause of a Winamp bug, which is now fixed. =) Anyway, all settings are default, ATF 'n everything. So now that I know that it's just my problem, I conclude it can have two causes: - bad tags; but Winamp can read them so I'm excluding that. - something went wrong overwriting the old in_flac. I however don't feel like backing up all Winamp settings and reinstalling for now, so I'm just gonna use the old plugin, which worked fine anyway, until I cleanup again.

Seeing some weirdness in the CD Edit Box(Alt+3), clicking [CDDB]/[CD Text] is appending instead of replacing the edit list. Doesn't seem to mess up the db3 file though.
A "CD Text: Present/Not Present" entry in the Medium Info(Rip & Burn screen) would be handy. Likewise some indication whether CDDB or CD Text is being shown in the ML. It's all a bit confused ATM. What's 'backup.cdb' btw, some sort of transition file from the old DB to the new ? UJ |

backup.cdb is the old in_cdda.cdb file
Yeah, I should probably add something to the Notes in the first post about cdinfo.db3 being the new cd database. Also note db.w5s in the Winamp\System folder (mmm, SQLite). |

Transcoder or mp3 encoder issue?
Not sure if this is an issue with the Transcoder or with the MP3 encoder, but I'm noticing that Transcoding FLAC to MP3 handles certain illegal filename characters differently than the FLAC encoder. For example, King Crimson - The Power To Believe 1: A Cappela rips with a file name of "The Power To Believe 1- A Cappela.flac", but when transcoded, it's given a file name of "The Power To Believe 1_ A Cappela.mp3".

it's either an ML or encoder setting that changes underscores to spaces .. I think it's in the ML prefs it not check in the transcoder prefs ..it's in one of those 2 spots

It's probably just because Benski chose a hyphen to replace illegal characters for the cd ripper, and Will chose an underscore for the Transcoder.
____________________________________________________________ Talking of ATF... $IfStrNotEqual can now be used, which is useful for showing Album Artist (if it exists) for compil's. [$if2(%albumartist%,%artist%) - ][%album% - ][$num(%track%,2) - ]$IfStrNotEqual(%artist%,$if2(%albumartist%,%artist%),[%artist% - ])[$if2(%title%,$filepart(%filename%))] If Album Artist field exists for compil's, then this will show eg. Various Artists - Album - ## - Track Artist - Title For non compil's where there's no Album Artist tag, or Album Artist and Artist fields are the same, it'll just show: Artist - Album - ## - Title The only slight downside here is that the ML Local Media database still doesn't see Album Artist, so when adding tracks from the ML you need to refresh the titles in the Playlist window after (either via: Playback, or: misc > misc > read extended info on selection / Ctrl+Alt+E) - but hopefully this can be resolved, if not for 5.32 then definitely when we get the new ml_local based on SQLite (full unicode support, superfast, more configurable, extra columns for eg. Disc No., Album Artist, File Path, etc). Naturally, that ATF string works fine when just adding files from Explorer, with no need to manually refresh the titles. |

I guess you need to install the media library for rating. The library isn't part of the lite installer. Just download full and reinstall with library support.

Ratings can only be assigned to files in the Media Library, and the Media Library doesn't come with the Lite version so I'm not sure what you mean.

Yeah, should probably not there, when no library is installed, but you ask for feature request, it's not a bug.

I narrowed my FLAC-problem down a bit: it just didn't read the artist; so it did appear in the library, just not on my artist search
![]() Also, removing the file and re-adding them helped, thanks! Just fyi, I used the FLAC-plugin that came with the official FLAC-installer on the site. It could read media library information too.
