Winamp 100% CPU Utilization

When I launch Winamp, my computers CPU utilization goes to 100% and stays there forever. In the processes list in task manager winamp is using around 94% CPU.

Winamp is not actually doing anything. Only the player window is open, and nothing is playing. It is scrolling what looks like the name of the last mp3 station I was playing (www.di.fm).

I have the latest winamp, 5.3.2 x86.

MY system:
- Windows Vista Ultimate RTM 32bit
- 2gb ram
- AMD 3400+ x2

any ideas? bug?

just noticed somethign else. Normally when I have my headphones on I can hear a quiet static, which sucks.

When I start winamp, they go dead silent.

This doesn't happen with windows media player.

Ah, I found another related post: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....readid=261409, but its closed so I cannot respond.

Looks like I have been able to reproduce the winamp 100% CPU utilization on my machine.

I'll try later on my other computer and see if it does it too.

Your are not running Vista 64bit, so it is not related to the compatibility issues with Sonic and Vista 64bit. Though, Vista is still not considered a supported operating system, make sure you have done a FULL uninstall and reinstall, select the Multi-user support option in the installer, and have no third-party plugins installed.

I see what you mean, perhaps its not related. The symptoms are simlar though.

I installed winamp today, it was my first time ever installing it on this machine. I have not installed any plugins.

What is the multi-user support option? Is that the option about whether to store preferences per user or per machine? I think I chose per-user, it said something about copying preferences from winamp folder to my user folder (though there were no existing preferneces as it was not installed).

Is there a way to confirm which option I chose?

thx
