Done. I'll see if I can get all of our students to fill this out. Even if 25% do it, it will help.

I still wish people weren't so phobic about installing software. Winamp uses about 25% processor on my laptop. VLC about 35-40% and WMP about 75%+ to the point of other things causing issues with WMP. To me Winamp is the player of choice so that I can surf and listen at the same time.

And yes I should be running a better laptop, if anyone would like to send me something better (for free), I'd gladly use it.

Your mileage may vary!

Ha, iTunes' AAC decoder doesn't even fully support LC-AAC.

Fuck this place.

Not sure what you mean. I am hoping with this petition they will be more inspired to include aacplus into iTunes.

I am going to let this petition get a few hundred sigs then i am going to send the link to the apple folks.

Ummmm........

There are only 9 on the form? Do you really want to waste bandwidth or limit the number of connections? You can double (or more) the number of connections for the same amount of data through your connection. More listeners = same money, the same number of listeners = less money.

I also sent him the link to the petition.

249 views of this thread, and only 19 signatures? With the new rates from the RIAA everyone should be looking at reducing their costs. And bandwidth is a large portion of the cost if you stay under the 152,000 odd aggregate tuning hours allowed for the "base" level flat fee for non-commercial streams from the RIAA.

Please stand up and do something. Thanks.

Pushing this up to the top again. Turn out has been pretty poor so far... What's the deal people? Stand up and do something, don't leave it up to other people to do the work. What will it really take... 5 minutes at the most?

For those few people that took the time, thanks!

People can create a free email account at Yahoo just for things like this, it's not like you really need to worry about any spam when you do this.

It's been almost 3 months and we have less than FIVE percent of this thread's viewers that have signed the petition??? You'd think we were asking for money or something.

Well thanks to those that took the time to fill in the small amount of info needed.

Yes you are right, can't help there as I've been vetoed on that front. If you check, you'll see that I was worried about the licensing issue way back in January when it was brought up, not just lately like most of the rest of the people! (post number 2 in that sticky)

I haven't signed because iTunes users get what they deserve.

Well yes that is very much true. But we are trying to keep bandwidth usage down, and cater to the poor uneducated masses. And unfortunately that means giving something the stupid itunes can play.

Days or research and a couple thousand dollars later, and my boss wants me to put up a low bitrate MP3 stream, just so the uneducated masses can listen to our station.

Well it could if they would take the time to get the SDK from Coding Technologies, which is probably the same place the people that wrote VLC got it. But as usual I bet Apple is trying to reverse engineer it so that they can encode to AAC+ with out paying the licensing fee.

The future is Ogg, Musepack, and FLAC.

iAudio players support Ogg, the latest support FLAC, and it would surprise me if they didn't add support for FLAC.

If they want to abide by the "standards" for their new iphone, then they will need to support AAC+. But to call 3GP standard may be a stretch.
