Adding folders/files to playlist (more than 500 files) = crash

Hey. When I add folders/files to my playlist, winamp will crash. This happens if you add more than 500 files.

We can't reproduce this.

What is the full method of reproduction?
What is your Windows OS?
Is this a clean install of Winamp 5.35 with NO 3rd-party plugins?
What are the details of crash/error message?
Any crash logs?

I'm not the OP, but I can certainly reproduce this bug.

I am running Windows XP, and it was a clean install of Winamp using the Modern skin.

When I try to add the files, sometimes, Windows will give me "Winamp has encountered a problem and needs to close" (the prompt that gives you an option to send an error report to Microsoft" and other times it will not give me an error message and just hang indefinitely and I have to close Winamp by terminating the process using the Windows Task Manager.

When I terminate the application (not the process) using the Windows Task Manager, a window pops up and says "You chose to end the nonresponsive program, Winamp."

"The program is not responding. Please tell Microsoft about this problem. We have created an error report that you can send to us. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous.

"To see what data this error report contains, click here." I click it, and it gives me an error signature with reporting details. The error signature says this:

szAppName: winamp.exe
szAppVer: 5.3.5.1305
szModName: hungapp
szModVer: 0.0.0.0
offset: 00000000

At the bottom of the window that the error signature was in, there was an option to view technical information about the error report. I clicked on the link, and the error report contents looked like this:

C:\DOCUME~1\HP_Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER4FF4.dir00\winamp.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\HP_Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER4FF4.dir00\appcompat.txt

Here are the contents of appcompat.txt:

I apologize to the OP for hijacking the thread; I had a similar problem and I didn't want to make a completely new thread.

I would appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.

I have:
Windows XP SP2
The only extra plugins I have installed is:
Skins In Submenu v1.8
Drag`n drop from Playlist Editor v0.8
Live Messenger 8 Status Plugin v0.31 (also known as gen_msn)

It is easy to reproduce. Just click "Add files" on the Playlist Editor and find your folders, mark them you want (maybe all), rightclick and enqueue. Then you will get the error message "whatidoiswrong" wrote, and winamp will crash.
Remember that it has to be minimum 500 files that you add (try with 600 to be sure).
I have the files in folders, so i added some folders (with minimum 500 songs), and winamp will crash.

EDIT: I forgot to tell that I also installed WA 5.32 and tried it, and it did NOT crash. I also tried WA 5.34 and it crashed again.
In another thread someone posted that this bug has occured since 5.33, and that may be true since it worked with 5.32, and not with 5.34/5.

DJ Egg or others, can you reproduce it?
Will it be fixed for the next release? This is the only crash/stable issue that I know about Winamp 5.35. It is a very stable version, it just have this crash problem.

No, I can't reproduce it, as such... but I do get Windows XP trying to open 40 instances of Winamp (one for each folder, if I selected 40 subfolders) - though Windows XP does actually warn you (I'll make sure I click 'Cancel' next time instead of 'OK', heh).

I've a feeling it's one of the default plugins to blame.

Try temporarily disabling all gen_*.dll plugins (esp. jumpex and ml).
Does the problem persist?

[Edit]

Yes, by 'disable' I mean (with Winamp closed) move it out of the Winamp\Plugins folder, or rename it to eg. gen_jumpex.dll.off

Hmn.. (I didnt find any "disable" button" for the plugins), so i moved the gen_jumpex.dll (only that one) to another place, and then tried to add files to the playlist, and it worked. It did not crash. (Did you mean move when you said disable?)
So, the gen_jumpex.dll was the problem. Any fix for this in the next release? Fix for the "open 40 instances of Winamp" problem too, as it sounds like it is a bug?
You said you didnt crash.. If you have gen_jumpex.dll installed, why didnt your winamp crash? :S

But I have a question. When I add songs to my playlist, I usually sort them by TITLE. When I "disabled" the gen_jumpex.dll plugin, and then went to sort by title (as Winamp did not crash), it didnt sort by title. Something weird. The songs did not sort like they usually do. Is this because I removed and did not have the gen_jumpex.dll?

it sounds more like the plugin's internal cache is messing up and after the months of crap i've had re-coding that over and over again i'm going to be hard pushed to find time to fix this properly anytime soon - it manifests itself differently on different setups hence why most will not see any issues and why it's a pig to try to replicate/resolve. you're best just not having the plugin present is my opinion since i can't provide any update to even try to resolve the issue

it looks like the issue for this is now resolved internally (was able to keep throwing tracks at winamp to end up with a 260k total playlist without any issues that i could see).

there's a few other things that i need to finish with the jtfe plugin but there will be an update once i've done those things and will then release the new build with this fix

So, the crash issue when adding files/folders to the playlist is fixed? Nice, good job...
Keep up the good work
