error opening source socket FATAL ERROR
Whenever i connect to the ShoutCast DNSA (GUI) monitor, in the event log it says "error opening source socket FATAL ERROR". And when i'm trying to connect to the server from winamp it wont connect. I believe this may be whats causing it. How do i fix this error?

Do you have a Firewall (Zonealarm, Mcafee Personal Firewall) up? I did and it did what you were saying. Did you configure DSP_SC.ini?

Something else is using the ports you want (8000 and 8001). Make sure you only have one instance of the Shoutcast DNAS running and no other server applications. Check your firewall.

What would an example of other server applications be? The only other programs i have running are mIRC (<-server application?) and a little game called progress quest
![]() Other people on mIRC are running shoutcast though..so.. I rebooted my hole computer, and before i opened up anything else i opened up the DNAS and i still got the error message. If it does have to do with my firewall, i know nothing about them (firewalls) so a nice thorough walkthrough would be nice ![]() Last edited by foshneezy; 27th March 2002 at 01:20. |

Well, if you connect to a IRC server on port 8000 or 8001, yeah. Anyway, try changing the port in sc_serv.ini
; PortBase. This is the IP port number your server will run on. The ; value, and the value + 1 must be available. If you get a fatal error when ; the DNAS is setting up a socket on startup, make sure nothing else on the ; machine is running on the same port (telnet localhost portnumber -- if you ; get connection refused then you're clear to use that port). Ports < 1024 ; may require root privledges on *nix machines. The default port is 8000. PortBase=8000 |

arg more trouble
I got a friend to try to connect to my SHOUTcast, but it would not connect. Every time it would say "disconnected". I looked at the log and noticed something.
<03/26/02@21:38:03> [source] connected from 127.0.0.1 <03/26/02@21:38:03> [source] icy-name:Unnamed Server ; icy-genre: <03/26/02@21:38:03> [source] icy-pub:1 ; icy-br:24 ; icy-url:http://www.shoutcast.com <03/26/02@21:38:03> [source] icy-irc:#shoutcast ; icy-icq:0 ; icy-aim:N/A <03/26/02@21:38:04> [dest: 205.188.234.42] starting stream (UID: 1)[L: 1]{A: SHOUTcast Directory Tester} <03/26/02@21:38:04> [dest: 205.188.234.42] connection closed (0 seconds) (UID: 1)[L: 0]{Bytes: 8192} <03/26/02@21:38:05> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com added me successfully On the 3rd last line it says [dest:ip] connection closed Is the connection supposed to close?? |

Your OK!
That's Perfectly OK! This is just telling yp.shoutcast.com that you have connected and it's letting them know. If you left your port 8000, you can access it at http://yourIPaddress:8000/listen.pls
If there is anything else please read the first post that says "READ ME BEFORE POSTING" or somting like that. O ya you should change ur info for your Station. Before you connect from the winamp plugin, click yellow pages. Config to your needs. Connect and then go! In 15 minutes (at most) Try searching for your station. If you wanna see your Station homepage goto http://Ipaddress:8000/ Its cool! Have fun and SHOUTcast on ![]() |

Okay, I have the same problem... I get the same Fatal Error message, but I don't think I have any other programs running. This has been happening for a couple days and I don't know what the problem is...
...how can I tell if anything else is using port 8000? This is frustrating, I'm not a computer smart person. |

Okay, I downloaded the DSP plugin for having a source. But it says 'invalid' password. And I'm sorry for making you help me out, I know i'm making it difficult.
