Hi, Winamp! I use Winamp desktop player since, well, I first time got my hands on a PC. And Winamp for Android was the first Android app I paid for, so now I hawe two WA - Desktop and Pro in my HTC Sensation.

But there are those Sync issues - a royal pain.

You see - I have organized my library on WA Desktop version to the last detail - have filled many tag fields with actual, correct data, cover arts, etc.
So, WA gives 2 sync options - USB and WiFi.

The problem is:
- when I do sync through USB: Cover art is stripped from all mp3 files;
- when done wirelesly: Genre tag field is stripped.

I would SO MUCH like to see this fixed! Otherwise it's completely impossible for me to fully enjoy app I paid for and even more - unable to sort my music on my HTC by genre.

Please, fix this, it would be a celebration for many of us.

Winamp for Android : Little bug draining the battery down

Hi,

99.9% of the App I've installed on my Motorola Milestone 2 running Android Gingerbread behave correctly when I close them. Why cannot Winamp do the job as well ?

When I close an App I want it to be shut off totally. I mean "close" the App and not just leave it to go back to main screen. So when I CLOSE the App I don't want the App to be still running a little in the background

Unfortunatelly this is the case with Winamp for Android. Draining down a little bit of the battery.

Ok I know some of you will say that it is only 0.something% of the processor power used. But why ? And if several badly develloped App would do the same ?

Battery time is already too short on our smartphones today ! So please take care of such obvious things when you develop an App.

Hope this will be corrected soon.

Otherwise great App.

I get a bug where when I try to play a .flac file from the folder menu it will show a black screen, then after around 2 seconds it goes back to the play menu and shows it as the track, but it is not playing, no sound is coming out of the headphones, it just plain doesnt work. WHY DID I UPGRADE to something that DOESN'T WORK????

Feature suggestion:

I'd love to see the lock-screen redesigned to behave like HTC Hero player in HTC Sensation.
Imho, it is not meaningfull to do a double unlock operation in order to get the screen unlocked.

In HTC Sensation the lockscreen player behaves like a lockscreen clock or something - only difference is that it has an album art and player controls and the unlocking ring is wisible and accessible. One can do what is needed - to unlock screen or to press pause/next track/view album art and song info. And from one screen.

It would be great not to have to double task in order to unlock screen (tapping the lock icon and then unlocking the screen).
[subjectively]And it would be prettier too![/subjectively]

Thumbs down Big shitty development error !

The App would be great if it wasn't the only App I know that does not switch OFF totally when you decide to shut it down !

In fact when you shutdown the App because you don’t use it anymore it still run in the background, taking your RAM memory, using your processor power and draining your battery down !

I have many other App on my phone and they all shut down well when I close them.
Why Winamp is not able to do a proper shutdown of the App ?

I just have one suggestion/complaint for Winamp on Android

I love shuffle playback for a playlist. However, I also love to START on a random track, not the first track every time.

PowerAmp had an option where you do a long-click on the playlist, and then click "Shuffle" to start on a random track and shuffle the rest of the playlist.

If Winamp for Android had this feature, I would be sold on Winamp as my main media player.

I have a problem where Winamp doesn't always stay running when I minimize it and start using other apps. Android was designed to have apps that have ongoing processes in the notification bar to have precedence over all other apps in the background, so I don't know why Winamp always gets closed when RAM is low, while many other ongoing apps never get closed. Could this be a developmental issue that can be fixed?

Long tracks (mp3) always reset

Hi Winamp devs,

I've got the following issue with the Winamp Android player (version 1.2.7): whenever I have a very long track (longer than an hour), the player doesn't seem to identify the correct length of the track, it's like it's skipping an entire hour, so a track of 1:17:00 will identify as 17:00.
Now, that was just the cosmetic bug, but the real annoying thing is that if I'm at, say 37:00, decides to stop and lock the phone, Winamp will reset the current play time back to the beginning... So I'm either stuck to never lock my phone if I'm listening to those tracks, or be doomed to simply listen to the beginning (because of the first issue I stated, the seeker bar doesn't allow me to get back where I was, as it skips an hour).
Don't know if you could have a look?

Cheers!

there are a few wifi sync issues, discussed here: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=329255 and my problem, here: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=340102

the problems summed up (mine is 1):

1. music sync, as ddraper put it " An initial and obvious problem is that Android on the PC cannot identify files it just synced to the device. I can remove all files on the device, then start a sync. Eventually the sync will stop but there is no way to cancel so you just have kill Winamp and start over. Then reconnect with Wifi again and attempt a full sync again. The popup windows now shows most of the files is just synced to the device as "not in the PC library" and ask to delete them or leave alone. What? Sure enough it will attempt to resync the very files that just got transferred."

2. playlist sync, as mb84 put it "I have the same issues while syncing multiple playlists with my Samsung Galaxy S. These are about 10 playlist having varying number of songs (10 up to 150). Winamp freezes while syncing the playlists, only a partial, corrupt sync is done."

Exclamation Winamp Android Pro Popping/Jittering Bug Report

App: Winamp for Android 1.2.9 with Pro Bundle
Phone: Samsung Galaxy Nexus 16GB (O2 UK)
OS: Android 4.0.1
Baseband: I9250XXKK1
Build: ITL41F
Music location: /sdcard/Music/Artist/Album/Track Title.flac
Note: The Galaxy Nexus /sdcard dir is actually on internal phone storage.

Issue with frequent popping/jittering as if the headphone output is being turned off and back on again very quickly or the song is buffering or the cpu is struggling. Only present when the phone has screen off/locked. Manually keeping the screen on by tapping it every 30s prevents the pops/jitters. The pops/jitters are not at even intervals. I'm playing FLACs exclusively. Only noticed after I upgraded to Winamp Pro. None of the Replaygain settings affect the issue. Winamp non-Pro and the stock music player can play the files perfectly whilst screen is off/locked (not gapless or using Replaygain though). Tried uninstalling then re-installing Winamp several times. Issue is 100% repeatable.

Hoping this is the correct place to post Android bug reports.

One annoying bug with the shuffle function is that it always replays the first played track in the playlist over again - sometimes even twice in a row.

Hope we can get this fixed as well.

following on from my previous post, winamp doesn't recognise tracks that have cd numbers in their metadata (at least not of the format "1", as opposed to "1/1" which is what i think it's expecting) over wifi. it then asks to resync any tracks that do have the cd number. over usb it's fine.

I noticed also.

I make from my cd's mp3 files and track 1 is 01_..., track 2 02_..., etc. I want feature that put the track right order from filename no form metadata (song/artist name).

"Sorry, The application Winamp (process.com.nullsoft.winamp) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. Force Close - Report"

Happens every time I try to "scroll" through music in the folder view.
Folder is /external_sd/music (on a 16GB external microSD)

Click Force Close and re-opens folder view at / (root level)

Settings->ManageApplications->Winamp->Cleardata does not fix

BIG time agree!
I've been searching for a better music player simply because I'm tired the stock player always having the same songs in "shuffle" order. I, too, tried PowerAmp and it was a little better at shuffling, but it would often still pick the same first song that the stock player always started with in any given playlist.

Shoutcast Stream - Pause/Play

When playing a live stream from Shoutcast, if I pause it, it actually acts like it's really pausing -- it's still streaming, but buffering the data until you press Play again. This is nice, but there's a problem. The problem is probably from addressing the battery drainage issue.

I have the stream set to my own shoutcast server, and I can watch it start the stream and close the connection. When the stream is first started (from my Favorites page), it hooks up and streams just fine (no drops or skips or blips or other problems mentioned by others) -- it stays connected as long as I want. If I press Pause, the stream stays connected for several minutes before finally closing the connection. I imagine that an older version probably kept this connection open indefinitely, hogging cpu, ram, and batter. If I press Play before the connection closes, everything is fine, and it progresses from song to song (although at some point it does skip ahead to get more caught up with the current stream, no biggie for me). But! If it times out, pressing Play will begin playing the buffered music until it runs out, and it will not reconnect to the stream. Worse yet, is I can't manually stop and restart it from that screen (widget or full screen). It claims to be Playing or Paused, based on when I've pressed the button, but in reality it is not playing anymore (no noise, and my shoutcase dsp confirms that I'm not connected). The only way to resume the stream is to go back to the Favorites page and relaunch.

I know -- I'm a whiner. But, I would really like to find a streaming player that will let me launch my favorite stream right from the desktop instead of having to open the app, go to the favorites page, and then launch the stream. When I first saw that the WinAmp widget showed my stream running in it, I was hoping this was my answer, but the failure to resume after a long pause kills it for me.

First I'm not sure if this is a bug or intended behaviour, it just seems strange to me. My understanding of the setting "Enable wireless sync" is it determines whether Winamp on my PC is allowed to sync media to my Android device running Winamp for android. Therefore, if this setting is disabled, I believe:
- Winamp on my PC should not be able to see my Winamp for Android
- Winamp on my Android should not be scanning WiFi for whatever reason.
-
If this premise is wrong my story below probably doesn't make sense. First I have disabled "Enable wireless sync".

This is the wake lock status before going to sleep, I at this moment also turn off my PC thus also Winamp.

Now I wake up and take a look at wake locks during the night. Winamp though not excessive, only 8 minutes, still seems odd to me.

Now I turn on my PC and start up Winamp. A mere two hours later I again take a look at processes consuming wake lock time, Winamp really stands out: approximately 20 minutes (28 in total - 8 from the night). This I consider to be fairly odd, why would Winamp consume that much wake lock time, which possibly has something to do with WiFi, though I disabled the only WiFi setting I could find: "Enable wireless sync". I have to add to this, that although I have disabled "Enable wireless sync", my telephone still is visible from Winamp on my PC.

In conclusion: I'm probably overlooking something but disabling "Enable wireless sync" doesn't stop Winamp from taking wake lock time with some WiFi process and performing some WiFi activity although I wouldn't expect that.

Worst part? I pulled the usb out since thought it froze it was so slow and now everytime I plug in my phone it asks if I want to fix my drive!

ugh

Larger album art in ALL areas of the app and Album Art search like every other media player has. The Winamp team needs to run things by a design specialist. The app looks very dated with 3D buttons and a TON of wasted dark space.

RE: No support for asx files in android

Hi there a quick question I have a htc desire with new rom and winamp but I note that my pc version can play asx files no problem but android just does not see it

The station I tune in to does not come under the shout-cast stations so I can't do it that way.

why on earth did they miss support for this

asx is useful for stations that are starting out or do not have embedded players for IE or chrome or firefox

any help would be welcome

The slider is completely missing on my 600 x 800 Pantech Pocket in portrait mode. In landscape mode the slider appears except it is a monster size taking up half the screen.

Is there any way Winamp developers can create a profile for this device's unusual size screen and debug why it won't display a music progress slider bar in portrait mode?

can't create playlists from folders

can't create playlists from folders:

starting Winamp Pro 1.2.10

go to folderview

pick a folder with long click and select "Abspielen (play)" or "Einreihen (enqueue)" (it makes no difference - both creates a playlist called "Aktuelle Wiedergabeliste (actual playlist)")

now I can play the songs but if I wan't to save the playlist (open the playlist and press the menuebutton and select "Wiedergabeliste erstellen (create playlist)" I get the message "Die aktuelle Wiedergabeliste enthält RSS-Feed-Einträge. Willst du die Wiedergabeliste ohne diese abspeichern? (The current playlist includes RSS feed items. Want to save the playlist without this?)" - I click "OK" and type a playlist name and click "OK"

if I now try to open the playlist - it is empty

Is anyone else still having the "resume playback position" bug with the latest version (1.2.10)? This is at least the 2nd release in the 1.2.x series that supposedly addresses this issue yet I still have the issue on my DROID RAZR (and had it on my last phone as well, a CLIQ2).

Thankfully I still have the 1.1 APK lying around that I can revert back to. While that version has its own set of issues, at least the "resume playback position" feature works as expected.

I can confirm wgasas problems.

Furthermore i tried to work around the sync problem by manually transferring the tracks of my playlist. The playlist contains 145 tracks and I sent them in packages of 10 tracks. This works fine until ich reach approximately track 50. Then the transfer freezes and will be shown as "failed". Now I have to kill Winmap as it will not continue transfering tracks anymore.
Sometimes I can transfer more tracks onto my phone but not all. The playlist i created on my phone contains these tracks as Winamp on my PC shows it but when I check the playlist on my phone there is a maximum of around 50 tracks only although it showed me more on the PC.

I'm using Winamp since I had my first PC and after I bought an HTC Sensation I'm using it there too. I hope the WiFi sync will be fixed soon.
Winamp is great! The app just needs some fixing...

Cheers!

Any updates on this persistent bug? Do the Winamp developers follow these threads? I'd be willing to help debug if it would help.

Bug report:

When music is stored in a folder or a filename which contains a ., winamp does not detect it.

I am currently storing my music in the format <sd card base>/Music/<Artist>/<Album>/<trackname>. In the case of one of my artists, .38 Special, none of the tracks are detected because the folder name begins with a . Similarly, I have two albums which begin with an ellipsis, so they're not detected either.

It's a simple enough workaround to rename them as it's only 3 folders each time I sync, but support for this would be appreciated.

e: Further character problems (yeah, yeah, sorry :P):

The following songs get copied, and are visible both in the winamp player and in the android player, but are not picked up by the playlists on the android player (all from text editor opening of m3u files, not all from the same playlist):

#EXTINF:281,Bendik og Årolilja
\Music\Gåte\Jygri\01 - Bendik og Årolilja.mp3

\Music\Final Fantasy 7\Final Fantasy VII_ Voices of the Lifestream\01 - Deliverance of the Heart (Heart of Anxiety).mp3
#EXTINF:406,Every Story Begins with a Name (Opening - Bombing Mission)

\Music\Nobuo Uematsu\Distant Worlds_ Music From Final Fantasy\02 - Liberi Fatali.mp3
#EXTINF:521,Memoro de la Stono ~ Distant Worlds

#EXTINF:236,Ojos Así
\Music\Shakira\Dónde Están los Ladrones_\11 - Ojos Así.mp3

The only thing which these seem to have in common are the odd characters (Å/å, ~, í), although oddly enough there's plenty of songs which have ~ and aren't a problem (they all just have the ~ touching another character instead of whitespace), and plenty of other characters of similar types - é, for example - which I have no problem with.

Thank you for the great app you have provided to play music on my Droid. I love the option to stream Shout Cast content.

I have two issues with the Moto Droid 4 version of Winamp.

1) When ever I receive a notification sound, Winamp cuts out, which is expected, but then it does not continue to play the content after the notification sound ends. These are short message or text notifications, and not the longer phone ring notification. This makes Winamp useless as a content player. In my instance I am streaming Shout Cast content. Please fix this as soon as possible, as the more notifications I receive the more I have to grab my Droid 4 and navigate to Winamp to tell it to continue the streaming.

2) Winamp seems to have a very heavy battery usage. It drains my battery very quickly. I have other players that stream/buffer content like Google Player (playing my music saved in the cloud) that don't have such a heavy draw on the battery. If I am using Winamp, I have to charge my phone by mid afternoon during the day. Using other players I can make it all day without needing to charge.

Thanks again for a great app and your attention to this email message.

Long time Winamp user.

Apologies, just realized I didn't follow the instructions in the OP for pertinent information, although I'm not sure how to apply them to android phones as most of the statistics are fixed for the phone model (and the desktop version has nothing to do with my issues listed above)

-A List of Plugins (*click* for full details) - I am uncertain how this applies for the android model, but there is nothing extra which has been installed. Just winamp.
-PC or Motherboard make/model - HTC Rezound
-CPU & RAM - 1.5 GHz dualcore, 1GB RAM
-Sound card or chip - HTC Rezound
-Videocard - HTC Rezound
-Windows OS (including Service Pack, eg. WinXP sp2) - Android version 2.3.4, HTC Sense 3.5
-DirectX version (start > run > dxdiag) - n/a
-Winamp version (eg. 5.623) - 1.2.12
-Confirmation of the Winamp installation type (Pro, Full, Bundle, Lite) - just regular Winamp, not pro
-We will also need further information for any video playback issues - haven't tried video

Filter Genre by Artist/Album

When you click Genres from the home screen and then select a genre, the items matching the selected genre should grouped by Artist and then Album rather than just showing a single list of all tracks for the selected genre.

Album art

Album art encoded in MP3 files only displays when media is selected from "Album" list, otherwise Llama silhouette is shown (if media is selected from "Folders", "artist", "Song", etc.).

Winamp Android V1.2.12
Galaxy S2 GT-I9100
Android: 2.3.3
