PING Iligan attended 2016 DSPC

2016 Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) was held in Tambo Central School last Aug. 24-26. It is a 3-day battle among campus journalists in Elementary, Junior High & Senior High schools and is open for all public and private schools within the jurisdiction of the School Division here in Iligan. A change in history since a new category was added; this is the first year wherein senior high school students participated in. The theme was – “Promoting K to 12 Basic Education Program as a Transformative Vehicle for Local and National Development through Campus Journalism”. This was the moment for all talented journalists showcased their God-given gifts, talents and compete with other schools. The objective of this competition was to bring out the best of all the contenders and deliver the cream of the crop to Regional Schools Press Conference. The competition officially began by releasing colorful balloons to the sky. As the balloons hover to the sky, excitement and fretfulness mixed together and are painted over the contenders’ faces. The contenders were ushered by the dependable boy scouts to their assigned rooms. The competition was really well-organized and the host school was very warm in welcoming the participating schools.

Nevertheless, mistakes were made; an elementary pupil was accused to have been cheating in the competition. But the accusation was a mistake itself, the complainant apologized publicly and claimed that the accused participant didn’t cheat.

The last category of the competition was the Radio Broadcasting. It started and ended on the third day. At exactly 3:00 pm, the emcee called the attention of all the competitors, coaches, and visitors for the awarding ceremony. Intermissions number served as an agonizing pause for all the contenders. A very adorable young man, a participant, sang the Uptown Funk of Bruno Mars. He showed his dance moves and performed as lively as he could. He’s oozing with confidence and everyone was charmed and sang along with him. Soon, a staff climbed up the stage brought a group of folders that was assumed to be the results. The competitors’ hearts beat like a drum. Each was very eager to know the results.

The awarding ceremony was very ecstatic. The assumed supportive schoolmates were cheering loudly whenever their participant was called as a winner or a runner-up. The over-all champion of the 2016 DSPC was St. Michael’s College. Thus, the whole competition was a great success for it does not just brought out the best campus journalist but also served as a memorable learning and motivation to the unfortunate participants to aspire and perform better next time.
