Obsolete gaming site.

I've been picking up some of the video games that I missed over the last couple of years. I got Doom III for $15 at the local Target, and Quake 3 for $10 from ebay. I have copies of Diablo II, Warcraft III etc.

I think these games are still fun, but the multiplayer support has long since been retired from the big players like Gamespy etc. (or no one is playing them).

$50 for the latest video games comes pretty dear. I never buy "state of the art" and I know many of you have computers which won't run the "latest thing".

So my idea was to set up a web to play the multiplayer games of Christmas past.

My idea is to host games that can be bought for $10. Diablo, the quakes etc.... all trade for $10 on ebay or Amazon.

I couldn't host Halo, because it's far too cpu intensive, but I probably could get some quake, warcraft and diablo servers running.

Would you spend the $10 and play some old games?. Or did you save some old software?.

I like multiplayer games, I just don't like dropping large money to do it.

The thing that gave me the idea is that I'll have a bunch of friends and family around the holidays, so I've set up some video games that can run on a 950 Mhz Athlon (my weakest machine). I have Diablo II, Quake 2 and 3 and Warcraft running on the lan with 3 computers.

I was thinking this might be a good idea for a web. Play some games even if they aren't the latest and greatest?.

Any ideas?.

Diablo II LOD is still monitered by Blizzard and patches have been released.

As for Warcraft not many people play now that WoW has come out.

If you want to play an endless classic, stick with cs.

As for me, I play as few games as possible and stick with the booze, and texas hold'em.

Yeah, Diablo II and it's expansion, Warcraft 2/3 and Starcraft still are supported by Blizzard and Battle.net. Besides, the only way to play Blizzard games is on bnet.

The FPS games, you can run a server on, but you need the hardware (usually a really good server) as well as the bandwidth.

Also, people have been migratting away from Gamespy Arcade as a browser, and using The All Seeing Eye, or even Xfire as a player matching system.

It isn't a bad idea, and I applaude you for thinking outside the box, but my guess is that you need to think more into it and you never know, it may be good.

I suggest Dungeon Keeper II.

Great game, great multiplayer, no longer supported whatsoever by its developer.

Or maybe the PC version of Forsaken. That title was always fun in multi, and as far as I know has died completely.

I'd LOVE to be able to play Quake 2 and Quake 3 again. If my ping time didn't suck so bad, I would.

But of course, I think this should probably go in the Games Center.

Moved.

C&C series still dominates my PC. I gave away Populous but miss it dearly. If you want to go way old school but classic DOS, there's Syndicate

Is that related to Syndicate Wars the console game that came out 96/97 time?

Man I loved that on my PS1, got real far into it, then my save game refused to load one day and that was it, couldn't be stuffed to pick it up and start over.......

So what can you play that's fun and doesn't have a big problem with slow connections?. Warcraft and non action type stuff like that would probably be ok.

A game I really liked was Diablo II, but if you played it at Gamespy every one cheated.

I have the two shoutcast server machines (for webranger.net) that usually run about 2% CPU. Neither is a speed demon (1.3 and 2 Ghz), but they are well connected.

So what would be good with 900? Mhz machines and would only need a modem or maybe slower broadband connections like satellite or ADSL?.

If I remember right, it was adapted to a console of some old fashion but I remember it being a DOSome game

My first choice would be Red Alert. I used to have Command & Conquer: Red Alert for the PC and Red Alert: Retalliation for the Playstation (before I ditched it because I now hate Sony ). I need to find a copy of Red Alert again. I've got the CD soundtrack to that game, too. <3 Hell March.

Chev says I'll love Generals and Zero Hour, so I'm going to have to give those a try.
