Notes:

1. The new Flash Video Decoder (in_flv) only plays VP6 content.

It will not play files with older h.263 video content, such as the FLV videos on youtube.
The main reasons for this are:
i) We currently aren't licensed to decode h.263 (this may change in the future)
ii) AOL Video streams are switching to VP6 codec in an FLV container.

Please do not post here to ask why you only hear audio but see no video when trying to play FLV files from youtube (or similar sites).

If you require support for youtube style h.263 FLV playback, then you can either:
i) Choose not to install the FLV Decoder in the Installer Options, and use the known in_dshow workaround instead, or
ii) Install the FLV Decoder so that it handles AOL/Winamp FLV streams, and save/rename all your youtube FLV files with e.g. the .FLV1 extension, and add ;FLV1 to the in_dshow extension list instead.

2. Re: Optional Constant-Q Equalizer and optional ISO Standard frequency bands

Please refer to this page for further info:
http://meggamusic.co.uk/winamp/docs..._eq_changes.htm

3. Re: Option to set the number of pixels to scroll for modern songticker

You can find this new option via:
Winamp > Prefs > Skins > Modern Skins -> General tab:
Move text x pixels

It was hard-coded to 5 pixels in Winamp 5.5
but the new default value in 5.51 is 1 pixel.

A neat little trick is to set it to 0 pixels, which scrolls the same as 1 pixel except, if you're using the Modern Songticker Scrolling method, there'll be no delay on the bounce (ie. when it switches direction from left-to-right or vice-versa).

4. Album Art config still isn't implemented (refer to the 5.5 Released thread)

5. The simple offline CD Info Editor from 5.35 still hasn't been re-implemented :-(

6. Re: Improved: More accurately translated Language Packs

Of the lang packs included with the default distribution, the French, Dutch, German, Spanish & Polish packs have been greatly improved by the community. The Italian & Swedish packs have also received some updates since Winamp 5.5 release.

More Information About Language Packs: 1 | 2 | 3

7. The Winamp Toolbar option on the 'Get the Most Out of Winamp' page of the installer now also supports Firefox.

Reporting Bugs:

Please report any reproducable bugs in the Bug Reports forum.
Make sure your report is complete, according to the sticky threads in Bug Reports, ie.
Clean install, no 3rd-party plugins, list of plugins, full step-by-step method of reproduction, relevant system specs, exact error messages, screenshots, which skin (one of Classic, Modern, or Bento only, or all three), links to sample files, etc.
If error reports, screenshots, sample files, etc are smaller than 200kb, then please zip and attach them to your post. Otherwise, please upload to one of stashbox.org (recommended), mediafire.com, or sendspace.com and post the url (no rapidshare or imageshack or similar links please).
Note that incomplete/lame bug reports may be totally ignored.

__________________________________________________________________________

Known Bugs/Issues:

-Flashing on restart if Winamp was previously closed whilst minimized to the systray.
This is a side-effect of the "Winamp won't restore from system tray" and/or "disappears from the Taskbar on restart when previously closed whilst minimized" fixes, and is currently the lesser of two evils. We hope to eventually fix it completely, maybe for 5.52

-Switching between language packs or from/to English (US) can lead to some of the online related media library tree items (effectively ml_orb and ml_online) losing their position and dropping to the bottom of the tree

-ml_autotag might return wrong results for some tracks if songs are not in the online Gracenote fingerprint database. Alas, there's not much that we can do about this....

-Auto-Tag results dialog is hidden under Winamp when Always On Top is enabled

-Winamp won't restore if minimized whilst Milkdrop & AVS config/about dialogs are open

-Drag+Drop from Bento skin Open Files Dialog clears the playlist instead of adding to it

-Playlist contents are blank when in docked toolbar mode and Winamp is minimized

* = fixed internally

Hmmm... I didn't even know the devs were working on that one.
What is it, Egg? An unannounced holiday surprise?

Well anyway, it's a pleasant one!

Now... when I went and upgraded from the 5.51 Beta to this current release, of course I absolutely UNchecked the toolbar, since I hate using IE. I guess I'll just reinstall now and select that option for my Firefox. LOL!

I am sorry. I am not sure where to report problems with the essentials pack.
But it seems that the Find File on Disk plugin is broken. If you try to use it from the playlist editor, then nothing happens. However, it seems to still work from the media library.
Thank You

Just to clarify...

If I'm installing 5.51 over the top of 5.5, is it necessary to DELETE any files in order for the Gracenote scan to work -- per the instructions from the 5.51 beta?

Thanks.

I did a clean install (I always do an uninstall and delete the winamp folder) and when I tried to run the playlist generator scan, I got the cannot initialise error. However, I deleted cddbplm.pdb & cddbplm.idx and then it worked. However, I would think that when you do an uninstall, it should delete these files. For me they were in the app data path. But I guess an uninstall does not touch these.

@The Serminator
No. Not if it works without error.
Only if you get the dreaded "Playlist Generator failed to initialize" error, then you've got to close Winamp, delete the %WinampIniDir%\Plugins\Gracenote\cddbplm.pdb & cddbplm.idx files, restart Winamp, and do a rescan.

@Juanus
Find File On Disk v1.57 works fine for me.
The only time when it does nothing is if the file the playlist entry points to doesn't exist, or if it's a remote/stream entry and not a local one.

@Disasterpiece
Bento PLTab? What? Where?

@jph6t
Hmm, that sounds familiar. I seem to remember the same issue in a previous release (somewhere inbetween 5.1x to 5.3x), which got fixed, but sounds like it's now been broken again....

@Nunzio
Yeah, it appeared somewhere inbetween the public beta and final.
I haven't installed it yet myself. Does it work? And trouble free?

i just did a clean install of 5.51 and Winamp Modern seems completely and utterly broken.

EDIT: tried a fresh reinstall of the Beta, and it worked.. going to try a fresh reinstall of the Final again.

EDIT2: Okay, that worked.. for some reason.. going to add my plugins back in one-by-one. i'll keep you posted.

EDIT3: Extremely odd. got it all back in there. slight hickup that the unregistered Drag'N'Drop plugin causes (makes it come up as Winamp Classic with the nag dialog, then wait until it's clicked before doing Modern) but all is well now.

Anyway, the two bugs I reported from 5.5 beta (build 1600) a long time ago is still here. Nothing has been done..

And to you Benski - No, the playlist songticker text is not fixed.. Heh

Anyway, if I look away from those bugs, 5.51 rocks...

Yeah, that's a screenshot, heh.
Who coded it? Where do we get it?
I took a quick look in the Modern Skins forum, but couldn't see anything obvious...

@kn0tte
Yeah, it's a weird one.
I actually can't reproduce either of your issues any more
(I could never repro the ML one anyway).
Maybe it's system specific, or related to some plugin or some bad setting somewhere, or a bad winamp.m3u8 (maybe set to 'read-only'?), or something along those lines. I really aren't sure, to be honest...

I can't reproduce the "broken" Modern skin that osmosis posted about either. I can switch freely and without glitches from skin to skin, Winamp Modern included. Must be some plugin osmosis has installed, or possibly, the Modern WAL file itself got corrupted somehow.

@Disasterpiece...

Yeah. As Egg already asked, where can we obtain the skin depicted in the screenshot you referenced?

I see you didn't include "Improved: More accurately translated Language Packs" in your list. Have you not checked out the updated Polish lang pack yet?

Thanks Serpher.
It was a hard work, but I hope useful. I hope that this will make Winamp more popular in Poland.

Winamp uninstallers really needs an option that allows users to keep ML/configuration information. I'm not all that heartbroken about it, since I deal with beta software all the time.

But it would be nice to have that catch.

Ok DJ Egg, here we go:

1. I figured out the songticker text problem.. It shows wrong when the first song is a song which is copied from a CD or something (view file info - it says Track 1 on metadata).. The other songs doesnt have Track 1 etc...
But still, it happens only in the Winamp Modern Skin.. And it worked fine in WA 5.35.. So why do I get this problem now?
I have attached the song.. Try it (add it in your playlist and start with double-clicking on .m3u playlist file on desktop).. This need to be a playlist with many songs, and not only that song... Try it

2. The Media Library issue is a REAL ISSUE... Now, Benski can you come over here for a second.. You said you could reproduce it, and that it was a problem with the Modern Skins skinning-engine (or something).. Can you fix it?

3. http://forums.winamp.com/showthread...740#post2278740
Look in that thread DJ Egg.. You said that the winshade songticker in WA Modern skin should be updated to 5.5 status in 5.51...
WHERE IS IT? I dont see it implemented in 5.51, even though you have said it two times!

Keep up the good work..

EDIT: Here is the link to that song (and remember, it works if you only open that song.. but not if you open it in a playlist.. strange..)

Nope, still can't reproduce it.
Are you sure your winamp.m3u8 isn't set to read-only?
Is 'Play in Winamp' the default action, or 'Enqueue in Winamp'?

Anyway, I'm sure everyone will agree that we don't want to see this thread go the same way as the last two, so I'm going to leave it at that. Please, no more on this issue, before I go insaaaaane ;-)

As for #3

Those are the two things I was talking about in the post you linked to.

Nunz: yeah, I said in an edit of my post that somehow reinstalling (fresh, again) helped. Then I added my plugins back one-by-one and all somehow still works.

However, a couple problems with the Modern Skin since 5.5 that I am experiencing and am curious if anyone else is, are these:
1. Main window windowshade songticker scrolling is ~1 character too short. (ie. it stops before displaying the end of the string - a ")" - and then goes back the other way.)

2. When the media library opens in an overlapping screen space with the main window/playlist, the main window/playlist stay on top, even though the media library is still the active component window.

Both can be seen here:

Wow, I can recreate this one. Its a "thing" but I wouldn't call it urgent by any stretch of the imagination. its Kn0tte that big of a deal. If I click on the playlist editor and then the media library again it goes away

Where do I check that winamp.m3u8 thing? And that "Play/Enqueue" thing?

Yes, that is working already (for the main window).. But it doesnt change anything in winshade mode (it is stuck on Modern style there.. I cant change it. Neither the pixel (if someone want too)..

And do you see.. Its not only me who are getting that Media Library problem!

Maybe it's some plugin causing that ML issue?
When I click the ML button or hit Alt+L, the ML always appears at the front for me, regardless of what other windows are overlapping etc.

As for the last ")" being cut-off with modern scrolling ... yeah, I'm seeing it. I feel like whacking the modern skin winshade ticker with a big stick.

That to me suggests that something is definitely messed up with your installation then.
The same setting controls main and winshade mode, and it works fine for me:
(you can tell by the *** in the screenshot that it's classic scrolling, yes?!)
http://stashbox.org/64552/modern_wi...c_scrolling.png

winamp.m3u8 is in the root Winamp folder.
%AppData%\Winamp\winamp.m3u8
You know how to check file properties and make sure it's not got the read-only attribute, yes?

Winamp -> Prefs > File Types: Enqueue files on dbl-click in Explorer:
Checked or unchecked?

When Is It Too Much?

I am still giving Winamp 5.5x the benefit of the doubt because it is obviously still a work in progress, but I have to admit I'm not thrilled about the direction Winamp seems to be taking. Too often, great software loses its greatness by trying to be all things to everyone. Sometimes it just works great the way it is and beyond making sure new formats are handled properly, and perhaps song data can be improved upon, there doesn't always need to be a major upgrade for a mature software product.

I use Winamp as my default audio player. I've never really liked using it for video, nor have I really bothered to use it for burning/ripping/doing my laundry. It's always been a great way to create playlists, play audio and never have to worry about it crashing or sucking away my system resources.

And then v5.5 came out. My system is a few years old, but it's still probably classified at the lower end of the midrange with two gigs of memory. It used to be that when I launched an audio file, Winamp would be there in less than ten seconds and would happily do its thing.

But since 5.5 has come out, it takes considerably longer to load, usually hangs up briefly between tracks because of the frankly obnoxious lower right playlist info window (still haven't figured out how to turn that off), and is just plain sluggish. It's using a lot more system resources as well.

From the perspective of a user who is not a settings tweaker, what I start with after installation is usually what I stay with, excepting making sure associations stay put and turning down or off some of the glitz.

There are just too many things that I am not clear about with the direction Winamp is going. Things like why there is a browser attached to a media player - why is that necessary or relevant? I'm also uncertain why 5.5 seems to be showing the same album art for every item it plays.

What I am going to try next is uninstalling the whole thing, trying v5.51 at the most minimal install possible, and see if things get any better. But if it still seems to be a resource piggy and is overbloated, I'll revert back to an earlier version.

I do appreciate the efforts underway to improve the player and for those anxiously awaiting them, I cast no aspertions your way. But I felt it important to also give the perspective of those of us who just want to be sure Winamp will always have a tightly packaged, efficient player leaving as few system footprints as possible.

To test that theory I did a clean install of Winamp on another XP system I had laying around here (since I *just* got it set up the way I like it again on this one), but to no avail. Same issue. No plugins whatsoever. *shrug*

Maybe it's the options I have selected in my install:

Yeah, maybe you just need to uncheck items that you don't want in the installer_options?

Some plugins can cause slower startups, more noticably the pmp_*.dll plugins.

You don't need to use the browser, or even the Bento skin, if you don't want.
Maybe you've forgotten, but there was a browser in Winamp 2.x (minibrowser window).

Re: album art
That was all explained in the 5.5 Released thread here.
At a guess, you've got a folder.jpg file in the same folder as the music files (possibly with the 'hidden' attribute), so that's what Winamp will be seeing & using.

FusionAmp WA-3 has some 5.51 features added, like the browser, playlist sidecar and albumart window.

I don't know how much recources it uses, but I bet it is a lot less than most modern skins.

If you want FusionAmp WA-3 with the new features, download it from my own site, it is not updated yet on the Winamp site.
