Attention all users

Due to complaints about the nature of some threads being insensitive as they may remind people of deaths and events of a distasteful nature, it has been decided that the following cannot be discussed on the forums.

Aircraft - Due to 9/11 and the numerous other crashes.
Please note that due to the method of travel usually involved in going abroad this extends to any holiday threads.

Boats - Due to the thousands of lives lost at sea over the past 10,000 years or so we cannot allow any mention of boats or by extension the sea (or other bodies of water deeper than 5mm).

Cars - Due to the appalling number of deaths and serious injuries every year involving cars no mention of cars is now allowed (this extends to trucks, vans, motorbikes).

Ducks - due to a theory that the great flu epidemic of 1918 was caused by a strain of the flu originating with ducks, any mention of ducks is now banned.
This may also be extended to cover any birds, as it appears they may be involved in other deaths and flu virus types.

Firearms - Due to the fact that firearms (henceforth called guns) have been used in many crimes no talk of any form of gun is allowed now.
This includes all fictional guns such as "railguns".

Games - especially First Person shooting games. Due to the ban on guns, and fears that the violence involved in these games will cause people to go and carry out acts of violence in real life, mention of these games will now be banned. Games involving any of the other above topics will also be banned (e.g. Flight Simulators).

Hydrogen - Due to the unfortunate association of hydrogen with certain types of bomb, and the lives lost in the Hindenburg crash we feel it appropriate to ask everyone to refrain from talking about anything involving hydrogen.
This especially extends to dihydrogen monoxide, a substance that has been proven to be used by every murderer and terrorist in the history of mankind, and should be banned.

We would like to ask all our users to bear these in mind when posting, and remember this is an early list that is likely to be updated.

im with Duane on this one, you just showed your baby-ness right here in this thread!

next time we know it, a simple word such as 'roadrunner', a very good (and old) cartoon which we know has alot of hinted violence... now you tell me "but theres alot of difference between cartoon violence and real life one" but im very legitimate because (and dont ban me, ill use it just for example) airplanes still fly people from point A to point B safely, but people connect the word with plane crashes. same thing with most stuff that you mentioned) i agree that actual violent things such as firearms and deaths should make people get banned.. but not for saying stuff that has no direct "link" to the subject.

my point is, that your restriction is way too harsh, and besides... people are offended in various strengths, some are'nt offended at all, so what i suggest is that you leave stuff that is directly linked to violence, and just have a warning in a sticky for all the other words, thats all,

ty, good bye

Do you see anyone laughing?

In due course all avatars will also be changed to a scheme that will not offend anyone.

All users will also be asked to amend their signatures to remove anything that is possible controversial or offences.
Due to wide range of beliefs held by members of this forum, is is important to ensure that no one unwittingly offends anyone, it is therefore necesary to outlaw the discussion topics which could be considered to have adverse reactions.

Certain members of the admin team and mod squad have already offered to ban themselves for their endorsement of activities such as driving and use of firearms in recreational sports.

Can't decide what's funnier, the op or the replies.

Since language has been used over centuries to spread hatred and incite war and genocide the use of words should be banned altogether.

It's true,

I've changed my avatar as I realise the sight of my arse kicking boots could be seen as confrontational.

I've also changed my recent signature as I now realise that it was offensive towards Nobby, sorry Nobby hope you can see your way clear to forgiving me, if not I'll gladly terminate my account on your behalf.

Twilightseer has been banned for contravening the new rules - as a mod he had plenty of notice, and should know better.

Everyone else has a week to get used to the rules and comply.

Threads are being purged as we speak - it'll explain the reduction in certain members post counts as the days pass. Bear in mind that it's a mammoth task, and as a result you may notice your post count drop a few times before it levels off.

There will be no futher discussion regarding other community web sites, if you can't remain loyal to winamp and it's products, then you will be automatically banned in future, this also goes for anyone who has links to external sites in their signatures not affiliated with AOL/TW

It's winamp all the way or nothing, Sorry guys but there is a guy up in the marketing department pushing this on us

Expect to see sponsored links arriving in your signature areas shortly.

certain words yes, but not in the quantity that we want to remove. Additionally, certain words on their own are fine, it's only their use as part of key phrases that we are worried about.

Craigf is working on a solution for now, so until then we have to do it the old fashioned way.

Will has been banned for contravening the new rules, and for his avatar - as a mod he had plenty of notice.

By the way, it seems that as a result of these bannings, there will be a few openings for moderators in the near future - especially now with the extra workload that these new rules will produce. Any interested parties can e-mail me citing reasons why you should be made mod.

As for the bannings, I'm not enjoying implementing them, but they are a necessary evil...
