Which MP3 Player Do You Recommend?

Looking to purchase a new mp3 player with a bigger hard drive (maybe 30GB+) - which do you recommend?

iPod

[/ducks]

No really. I do. I love mine. Been an avid user for about 8 years now. Yeah, still got my 1G.

[/ducks]

Really, I do love them, but most people around here do not. Plus, you can get what is 160 gig for $350 ... or an 80 for $250. Its a steal imho.

Screw the touch though. 16 gig, wtf? Plus it will cost me my arm and first born.

[/ducks again]

ok now everyone can flame me for owning one and aditting that I actually like it.

Heh, I have been known to DJ from it too. Though that really sucked.

I agree, especially if you want any sort of mobile audio integration (not the ipod touch though)

Not to mention the endless about of 3rd party accessories

ThinkPad T61, C2D @ 2.2GHz, 4GB DDR2, Win7x64Pro

ABi (Anything But iPod)

Creative, Microsoft, and Archos all make some great mp3 players, especially Creative.

This is a sig of some nature.

If you care about aesthetic and you're just playing standard music files, it's hard to recommend any hard drive player other than the iPod. If you like watching videos on your player, I imagine Archos is for you. If you've got a bunch of unusual formats (Ogg, for example) that you can't be bothered re-ripping, and you don't mind your player being ugly as sin, the Cowon players are pretty neat.

I love my iRiver but they don't have a hell of a lot in the capacity range you're wanting.

Only ones I have ever had was the ipod Nano (4GB) and an old portable mp3 cd player (it plays regular cds and looks like a cd walkman, but can also play mp3 cds). Both work fine, but I don't like how sensitive the buttons are on the ipod - you can't put it in a pocket without it always doing shit you don't want it to do. If I wear it when I'm busy doing something physical, I either have to find a hard case to put it in before slipping it in the pocket, or I have to wear it outside of my clothes, which isn't very good if I'm crawling under cars or something that could damage it.

I use a Sansa SanDisk e260. It's only got a 4GB hard-drive though, so that's not suited to your request.

For larger hard-drive players, I'm not sure. I do troubleshooting for iPods, so I'm instinctively inclined to say "DON'T GET AN iPOD!". But I'm not sure. If you have an Apple Store in your area, you could try to buy a refurbished one for cheap to make it worth getting. :P

If most people were more honest, most of the anti-ipod posts would look more like this:

I don't like ipods because they're popular and I don't subscribe to popular trends...

Ipods have holes (technical limitations) that other players can fill, but they're not shit. They're easy to use and are overall a decent package deal for the general public. They have competitive features and pricing. I have one that was given to me (4GB nano) and although there are some things that I really hate about it (buttons/controls are too sensitive for pocket storage among other things), it's not a bad little toy.

I recently bought an 8GB Zen. I like it a lot. I can't say it's better than an iPod as I've never had one. At $150 the Zen does have more storage space than the similarly priced iPod Nano.

There is no sig.

That's what the lock switch on the bottom is for (Nano).

Either the Creative players, or Archos players. Hell, with Archos, you don't even have to install any software to transfer songs. Just plug it in and it works.

This is a sig of some nature.
