New to Shoutcast 2.X..

I have been running a Shoutcast station for several years on a very old version of sc_serv and using icecast/ices as the DSP playing from a local directory of Mp3 files on a co-located server. Since I was going to wipe the server and reinstall with a newer Linux distro, I decided to upgrade the station to the current version of sc_serv and drop icecast/ices in favor of the latest version of sc_trans. I'm fairly familiar with the older versions of Shoutcast, but am having the weirdest trouble in getting sc_trans to *speak* to sc_serv in this installation. Both DSP and DNAS are running on the same server.

I'm using SHOUTcast DNAS/posix(linux x86) v2.0.0.29 (Jul 31 2011) and TRANSCast/posix(linux x86) v2.0.0.54 (Oct 7 2011). Both start up without errors, and with sc_serv running, I can point a webbrowser to :8000 at my url, and get the admin page just fine. netstat sez something is listening on tcp/8000-8001. When I start sc_trans, it connects to sc_serv, according to the screenlog with:

msg:[SRC 127.0.0.1:54010] SHOUTcast 2 source connection.
2012-09-19 21:27:48 I
msg:[SRC 127.0.0.1:54010] Password accepted. Stream id is 1

I see the xml gobbledegook from sc_trans and the playlist scrolling by on both the sc_serv and sc_trans windows.

Now the weird part.. If I try to connect any player (rythmbox, audacious, winamp), I get the following:

2012-09-19 21:44:17 I msg:[SRC 127.0.0.1:60190 sid=1] Beginning intro file transfer of size 101712
2012-09-19 21:44:17 I msg:[SRC 127.0.0.1:60190 sid=1] intro file transfer complete.
2012-09-19 21:44:29 E msg:[DST 64.134.230.139:50567 sid=1] SHOUTcast 1 client connection rejected. Stream not available. gvfs/1.12.1
2012-09-19 21:44:29 I msg:[DST 64.134.230.139:50567 sid=1] SHOUTcast 1 client connection closed (0 seconds) [Bytes: 0] Agent: `gvfs/1.12.1'
2012-09-19 21:44:29 E msg:[DST 64.134.230.139:50568 sid=1] SHOUTcast 1 client connection rejected. Stream not available. GStreamer souphttpsrc libsoup/2.38.1
2012-09-19 21:44:29 I msg:[DST 64.134.230.139:50568 sid=1] SHOUTcast 1 client connection closed (0 seconds) [Bytes: 0] Agent: `GStreamer souphttpsrc libsoup/2.38.1'

And the player kicks up a "Stream contains no data"....

The IP address shown is the Starbucks/ATT wifi connection address where I'm writing this at, so I'm not gonna bother to obfuscate it.. As far as I can see, this *should* be working, or at least it did previously when I ran the old versions.. I decided to upgrade as I want to be able to use the multi-stream feature in the current Shoutcast version...

HELP!!

have you created an authhash for the streams? without one and you've got things set to be 'public' then the DNAS will reject client connections as it's deemed to be in an illegal state.

if you don't want to be listed in the Directory then set publicserver=never in the configuration file, otherwise follow http://wiki.winamp.com/wiki/SHOUTcas...ash_Management (as is mentioned in the getting started and other docs) on how to create an authhash for the stream.

the only other thing is to make sure that there are no [YP2] error messages being reported (which is entirely likely if you're trying to do this on a public wifi network where i'd have hoped most of the common ports SHOUTcast runs on would be blocked).

ok.. I hadn't applied for the authhash yet.. The server that I'm trying to set up is NOT on a wifi network, rather its on an OpenVZ Linux virtual server in a datacenter in Dallas.. I was only doing troubleshooting/testing via my laptop and a wifi network.. Apparently I misunderstood the docs.. I had publicserver=always, was gonna apply for the hash as soon as I got everything working.. changed it to never and sure enough, working fine.. Thanks for pointing my feeble brain in the right direction...
