I don't see how this theory stands, as buffer overflows are much harder to find with brute-force external testing than reading source, and since you have to be a programmer to do anything useful (other than crash a program) without significant assembly knowledge.

I have stopped using mozilla since netscape 6 cause it's horribly slow... I regularly use IE 5 and Opera if I really bother to install a browser at all..

Maybe try this new mozilla then since everyone talk so good about it, but my first priotiy is speed...

One thing I cant stand about firefox is the toolbar layout. ...so I changed it with the tool that's built in that allows the user to move around stuff on the toolbars and stuff.

...very handy.

This is how I have my firefox set up:

This is much faster than the old Netscape 6 and 7 but still slower than IE 5 and much slower than Opera... sorry maybe its secure, but I trust my firewall...

I used regular browsing at the winamp forums and it renders text almost as slow as it's images lol

And it's fugly as well

You are using Firefox or Mozilla suite? IE 5 is bltantly insecure and a firewall wont help you if it is compromised which can happen very easily. I've seen computers hijacked because of this. Still though Firefox will initially start up more slowly since it doesn't preload but once its loaded it renders pages quicker. IE5 is not fugly to you? At least you can easily customize Firefox.

I am using Firefox, and I use IE 6.0 now, not 5... and I discovered the theme thingy after a while.. but it's not as fast as IE, though much much faster the Netscape 6 and 7 as I said..

But hacker can breach systems with firefox, firewall or IE...

Even a firewall isn't 100% protection... I doubt a hacker which can hack a coputer with an active firewall, don't manage to hack cause firefox is installed, that sounds to me just bs.

I'm not sure if this particular release of FireFox is faster than IE6, but 0.93 sure was.

Remember, this is not the final release of version 1.0, which means it still needs work.

My web stats show a similar kind of percentage split but are changing to include less hits from IE. The hits for IE just prove that many users don't realise there are other browsers available and just use IE because there is an icon for it on their desktop/start menu when they get their PC. The numbers for Mozilla etc. are doing well to say that people have to go to the effort of downloading and installing it themselves.

Kids, you tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try.

Maybe, but I don't feel like I have to justify my use of Firefox.

I prefer Firefox but IE6 is more exciting!!

You don't know which vulnerability/activeX/spyware is arround the corner in IE6 so it's really an adventurers dream!!

(Nah, I overreact, I am logged in as limited user so I am pretty much safe with IE6 vulnerabilities but still I prefer Firefox although for this post I used IE6... which reminds me to close IE6 and return to Firefox)

Well, I don't want anyone to justify for what browser they choose to use, I just posted plain facts...

Why ppl don't use any other brower than IE 6 could be of many different reasons... mine in particullar is, it's already there when you start.. it's intergrated, which leaves you with less fuzz and you get benefits of it (and some security breaches) but no software can ensure 100% security.. and IE 6 is fast enough for me and most average users... why bother to spend time to download anything else, and for Linux users it's the opposite... where you can choose Mozilla AND Netscape??? O_o funny way to waste space... anyways..

Other than ppl say IE have a lot of security breaches, I cannot find anything wrong with IE, except maybe that it's MS...

All the talk about page render times and mem usage...
I'd like to see some real data about this stuff from good source (like cnet) rather than just hear a bunch of biased opinions.

Personally I like the plug-in approach of Firefox, the fact that it's free and ad-less, And the ideals of the Mozilla Community.
*rubbing chin and pondering*
Hum... those three reasons sound like a certian media player I know... all crap...what's it name?

Well, the webstat isn't my opinion... it's the actual stats from my webpage for a guild in the game called Anarchy Online. I know very little of what our members use to browse with. The rest is from the Winamp community...

And if you need a 0.00001 accuracy test from Cnet to decide what browser to use, you got a problem lol!

Where does your webstat talk about render times or mem usage?

edit:
looky what I found!

Well, it looks too me like you picked facts that happen to make IE look good, so we might be influenced to use what you use.

There will be no modern browser out there will beat IE's start up speed, like Pulse said since it is intregrated into Windows. I like ff not only cause its secure and I have never gotten one adware or spyware from it, but also because of its array of customizable features. BTW I usually use customized Moox's nightly builds specially made for my type of procesor and they work fantastically each time.
