getArtist exists? | fstream doesn't work? | GUID

Hey

1)
I'm looking for a method which returns the artist of the current track. Shouldn't be that difficult but I didn't find it.

2)
I wanted to open a file named "xssettings.cfg" with this code: (or creat it if it doesn't exist)
code:
ofstream Output ("xssettings.cfg");

and then put something into it and close it:
code:
Output.write((char*) &iNumberOfArtists, sizeof(iNumberOfArtists));
Output.close();

but it actually does nothing. the first method fails but idk why...

3)
Where can i create a GUID for my plugin? The given GUID from the gen_play_state example cannot be used twice i know. but I really don't know what must be there...

Hope you guys can help me
Links are welcome if you've got one but I clodn't find anything...

greets from germany.... again

(not that prolike )

1) IPC_GET_EXTENDED_FILE_INFO(W) apis will allow it (from wa_ipc.h - the first place anyone wanting to do Winamp plug-in development should have a search through).

2) IPC_GETINIDIRECTORY(W) apis will give you back a folderpath to use where the rest of Winamp's setting are stored (usually %appdata%\Winamp nowadays) and then append the filename onto that. most likely you're using Vista / Windows 7 which generally blocks writing of files into the Winamp program files folder without admin / UAC being disabled.

3) using guidgen.exe which ships with Visual Studio or anyother guid generator of your choice.
