Unknown Files

I know I'm being lazy, but please help save me from a 'clean' reinstall.

I have 3 old files in my Winamp/Plugins folder that I can't remember where they came from and what they do. I would like to remove them if they are not useful or needed. They don't seem to be causing any problems, but would like to deal with them before they do.

read_file.dll, created 4/8/2009
winampFLV.swf, created 12/16/2009
in_wav.trb, created 9/14/2005

Thanx for any help.

read_file.dll

Used for compressed files (in_midi, in_mod etc)

winampFLV.swf

Used for the Nullsoft Flash Control Playback

in_wav.trb

Original Nullsoft Waveform Decoder 2.x. Used for DrO's Waveform Wrapper, to play riff-wav and aud files.

Hi Koopa,

Thank you for the info.

I gather from the descriptions (and because they are not rewritten when doing an in-place upgrade) that these files come from the Essentials Package.

I have not played a midi or mod in years and don't play the other formats either, but I'll hang on to these files for a while longer anyway (can't hurt anything).

Only in_wav.trb (with in_wav.dll) is from the Essentials Pack.

The other files are shipped with Winamp. If you delete winampFLV.swf you cannot play .swf files with in_swf.dll anymore.

Ok, just saw this additional post. Thanx again for the help.

I had noticed that all the other files in the installation pack (written to the program folders) are rewritten (given the creation date of the day I did the in-place upgrade), even if nothing in them changed (same version numbers and file sizes). These 2 files do not get the new creation dates for whatever reason, but that's no big deal now that I know what they do and where they came from (thanks to you).

I've developed the habit of monitoring what's in the Winamp program folders after several bad experiences with 3rd party plug-ins. Your utilities have been a tremendous help in dealing with that.
