grr

Why do people use the number "2" when trying to say "to" and "4" for "for" and "y" for "why" and "c" for "see", and so on?

Do yourself some good and learn some english. Then we'll talk

eh, heh.

I feel ya brother. some times it makes it harder to understand the post because you have to deencrypt all of that shit I can understand in some cases like "brb" for "be right back" or "ttyl" for "talk to you later" (a friend uses it in her e-mails and at first I thought she was talking about the #1 TeleTYpe terminal (first computer that connects to a linux system through the serial port)

But the thing is all these versions, if you want to call it that are all dialects of English! You don't speak proper English, you speak with an American dialect.

Explain what you mean when you say to "learn some English"

You can't say that though! I mean for example, if i say to you brolly, anticlockwise, rad, mingin, non British people might have no idea what they meant.

Ok bad examples, but the point is, wherever you go, no matter how you all know the language, you are always gonna say stuff that the other person doesnt understand!

I suppose some of the net slang can be OTT though but I find it funny

Speaking of English dialects, Inatlantis, the two hardest to understand are: Scottish and Australian, and I'm both!!! Neither of them use real word (eg. wee, ken, loch, ben, firth, kirk, in scottish; and kiwi, g'day, [wouldn't call that common], arvo, hooroo, kero, pommy bastard). While quite a lot of the Australian words are descernable, when combined with a mild scottish lint, they are barely recognisable.

On the subject of net slang, during the last school holidays, my brothers were on chat so much, by the end of the 2 weeks, they were actually saying "l-o-l"

By the who, what is a beetroot in england? i think its just "beet" in the usa

Proper English is the Queens English. Period.

None of us (well most of us anyway) do not speak proper English so Phish, you really should have been a lil' more specific in your initial post

I am in NO way attacking Phish in any way, just I am a little unlclear on what he is trying to imply

I find the Scottish accnt extremely irritating (excuse that comment), that in NO way reflects onto my feelings of the people. I am not that small minded as some people around here are. matt in particular

i'd just to go over a couple little things with everyone.
receive is spelled R-E-C-E-I-V-E

what the hell is "tryed?"
why so many people who use damn underscores in place of spaces for files even yet today?
oh and the damn Z's added instead of S's.

our pres. may have the texan slur, but he went through harvard with a B average, quite better than the democratic counterpart, al gore. so how'd you do in harvard?

and i bet today someone with a tennessee screechy accent, lanky frame, and a frightening profile would never have been elected today because of that. that'd be abe lincoln.

The Scots use words like Loch, Firth and so on because they are gaelic words, and Gaelic Scottish was the language that was spoken before English. In some areas, Gaelic is still used, but it is mostly an Irish persuit now.

lots of money and powerful parents sort seem to make that happen . . . even for a brainless coke snorting coward. well, i guess courage doesn't have anything to do with it, but it does irritate me; joining the nat'l gaurd to avoid fighting in vietnam, and flying to a hidden bunker during the sep. 11 attacks

I could be wrong, because when it comes to politics I normally am, but I thought that the Secret Service and Congress force the President into hiding when there is a national threat. I didn't think that this was the first time a President was forced into a bunker like that either. I'm sure you guys will let me know if I am wrong though.

the president was in florida during the initial sept 11 attacks... dumbass.

and second, where was gore during vietnam? did he serve the country? nope. he was hiding behind a typewriter in NYC and slipped anti-war propaganda leaflets on campuses to provoke more protests.

today you will see him in one of his multi-million dollar homes, or raising money illegally in buddhist temples or from communist regimes. interesting how "spreading the wealth" stops at his fortunes, another double standard he wanted.
there's europes's favorite devout socialist.

why won't they just elect the bastard to be king of europe or whatever since he's nearly a deity by their standards?
