Maybe some day if I really have nothing else to do...
Well I for one am a supporter. This would in fact totally replace iTunes then. The only two reasons I'd start iTunes for:
* repair iPod firmware when it's fubar
* upload photos

Good news for all who want to upload photos:

Koniyan (our Japanese friend who coded most of the cover art support) has decided to work on this feature! Great! So maybe in one or two months, we can upload photos to our iPods.... hooray!!!

There is one thing that I would think of as cool, I haven't tried this ml_ipod but I will check it out, the thing I would want on my iPod is "Cover Flow View" (check this out in itunes, under view, then check Cover Flow View ).
The iPod is "strong" enough to run this, But as i said before, I have no idea what this ml_ipod can do, what part's it utilizes.

So can some one tell me? After what I have read in this topic, its not a different firmware like rockbox. So, is it just another synchronizer that you may use instead of iTunes?
Well, just send a link to another topic, since me myself is to lazy to look trough them.

Another useful feature specific to the Video iPod would be to modify the setting under iPod config to "Delete songs found on the ipod which are not in the Media Library".

It would be handy to separate the video and audio for this function.

I have put a number of mp4 movies on my iPod which I have subsequently backed up onto DVD's to conserve HD space. Now I have to unselect the option to delete songs on my ipod that are not in my Winamp ML because if I select it, the movies get deleted also. I found this out the hard way. Thank God for back ups!

Otherwise, the feature is very handy to remove unwanted songs from the ipod efficiently.

FINALLY! I'm back at home and here is this brand new video iPod. Nw I need something to feed it. I know where to get video podcasts, but could you point me to some places to download (free) music videos or trailers etc. for the iPod? At the moment, everything I have shows up under Video Podcasts only (with iTunes)...

Hey Abu.

Glad you made it home.

Here's a site you can download all sorts of mp4's from:

http://isohunt.com/torrents/?ihq=mp4

You'll need a torrent program, though. The best one I've found is here:

http://www.utorrent.com/

If you need any help with it let me know.

Well, I can see no reason why they shouldn't work. They are handled exactly as audio podcasts. I just tried it, it uploaded the video podcast fine and displayed it in the video podcasts section on the iPod. So, what is NOT working?

One minor tweak: I had to tell the MP4 input plugin to handle *.m4v files. That's not in there by default. But it has nothing to do with ml_iPod

I have a feature request:

Is there a way for ml_ipod to give a warning BEFORE syncing that there will not be enough space for the songs being added? It's annoying to wait while a sync is progressing only to get an error message near the end stating "Couldn't write new ipod database. ......"

A fix for the video categories would be nice, so that they do not appear in the music section, if marked as music video!
Thanks

I think Apple's philosopie is that "MusicVideos" is a kind of music and must show up in the music section as well. If you select it there, only the music is played, no video. Consequently, if you have a song as a music video, there is no need to have it once again as pure audio.

But if you don't want to have that default behaviour, simply flag all your music videos as being "movies". Then they show up in the movie section , but they don't clutter your music categories any more. To gather all your music videos, you could add a special comment for yourself and use a smart playlist then, like this:
comment has "musicvideo". This could be found under the video playlists then.

Ich hoffe, das hilft Viel Spass!

I'll just put all of them in the same album, like videos, so that they don't appear in the real album, because right now they are tagged for their album, so I have one song twice in some albums!

Maybe you can clearify there, which option has precedence over the other, if both ones accidentally are going to be used - Tagging or folder? (What will happen if [M]-tagged files are placed in the TV-folder?)

The tag SHOULD take precendence, seeing as it's the more specific one (tag = per-file basis, folder = per-folder basis). But I'm not sure...

That's how I implemented it, the tag does take precedence.

When you add a TV Show with itunes you get an option box (right click on show and get info) to fill in the season number. Therefore when loaded and go to your TV Show folder you get for e.g - South Park, (then enter) - Season 1 (then enter) - South Park S01xE01.

Would be great if ml ipod could do this too? At the moment the name is tagged by the artist tag, with v2.04p27 or by [TV]South Park in the comment field in pre p26 versions. Then it goes directly to the episode information.
E.g South Park (then enter)
South Park S01xE01
South Park S01xE02
South Park S02xE01
South Park S05xE02

If you have multiple episodes of a show from different seasons, they will all appear together rather than be separated by seasons.

Maybe it could be changed so that the artist tag (South Park) was the first page and then the album tag (Season 1) the second, then the episode info as the third (South Park S01xE01)

Just a suggestion!

Could you give me an iTunesDB created by iTunes, where everything is as you want? (See FAQ for info on iTunesDB)

Also: If the album starts with digits, this is taken to be the season number.
