Visualization not working in Winamp 5.8

I recently downloaded Winamp 5.8 and while everything else seems to be okay, the Visualization mode isn't working due to issues with DirectX.

What exact ver of windows?

It looks to me like the problem isn't winamp, but rather DirectX files u don't have.

Winamp requires ancient an DirectX 9 library which hasn't been included with Windows for ages.
The installer is supposed to download it, but it doesn't always seem to work (just timed out for me on a new Windows 10).

The websetup from Microsoft (click) worked for me.

More precise to say that visualization requires it, as opposed to winamp, yes? Or r u saying a fresh win10 install with a fresh 5.8 winamp requires that DirectX just to run winamp?

It's just Milkdrop. Everything else runs fine without DirectX 9, and I guess if you uncheck Milkdrop in the installer, it doesn't even try to download it.

I just wonder whether that time out was just a fluke, though there should be more people complaining if it wasn't.

Under windows 10 you should not have to bother about directX versions. Milkdrop needs the old version 9, but under windows 10 should work straight out of the box.

With older windows versions, you will need to install a dedicated DirectX 9 version for milkdrop. If you already have DirectX 11 or similar installed, don't worry, version 9 will be installed in parallel, without affecting newer versions.

It looks like Winamp did not download the dependencies (or assumes that the DX9 runtimes are available). There ought to be an option to run DXWebSetup if Winamp is installing a plugin that uses DirectX. Literally every video game does this, can't understand why Winamp will not.

Also, it looks like the reporter is running Windows 10 and yet experiencing this error. I would say that this needs to be looked into.

It does try to download them, the download timed out.
