Implement read & write of ID3v2 rating tags

Hi there.

We are currently on Winamp 5.53 and so far this wonderful multimedia player has not implemented a very basic BUT essential feature:

Read & Write MP3's ID3v2 rating tags

I've browsed the forum and found some workarounds for this but they are very time consuming and should not be necessary.

I know that all the winamp users with large amount of audio files, are willing to have this feature, so that if we rate a file on the winamp media library automatically that rating is written to the rating tag on the ID3v2 file, and this would also be implemented to any multimedia file winamp supports!

So let's vote!, would you like this feature implemented?

Yeah... I wound up here due to your link to this from this thread.

Now, I didn't reply in that thread because personally speaking, ratings serve absolutely no purpose for me. I really don't care about ratings - not in the least. They do nothing to enhance my music listening experience, and unless something does that, I'm not interested.

But, since this is a poll, and the only 2 options you gave are...
  • Yes
  • No
instead of giving options where I can truthfully vote, like this for instance...
  • Yes
  • No
  • Makes no difference, I could care less
Well then, since this is a poll and I'm somewhat "obligated" to vote, I've voted NO.

Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. This will also benefit others who may have a similar question or problem. But before posting, please first Search the forums and read all FAQs and all Sticky threads.

You're 100% right that it does not affect or enhance the listening experience.

But as I mentioned earlier, for people like me, who has a HUGE mp3 collection and think that the ratings are pretty good to organize, prioritize and select which music to play at what moment is a must have.

I use a lot that ratings, obvious I only have MP3s that I really like, even for albums, I only keep the goodies and delete the bad ones. but after that process I rate my songs and obviously gives 5 stars to the ones that makes my nerves goes crazy!... and so.. for a Mobile DJ it's very useful since I can Identify all my 5,4 and 3 stars mp3s and order them to put my DJ set into the perfect mood!.

Thanks for your comments
