Notepad comes with Windows.

UltraEdit is shareware. (freeware if you know where to look . . .)

There are no good freeware editors except Notepad. If you want a WYSIWYG editor, there aren't really any good ones, and none of the decent ones are free. (actually, I've heard that the editor in Mozzila is good if you want a WYSIWYG editor, and of course, it's free)

I use 'HTML Tab' it is freeware and it's at CNET | download center I believe. If it isn't I could send it to you.

Vim!#$#!%$

I use Vim for everything: LaTeX, HTML, and some of the other 340 languages it has syntax highlighting for. You could check out this place and search scripts/tips for things to make HTML more streamlined. That and it works on nearly every OS so you can use it everywhere without having to find another editor.

Of course, it has a learning curve, but it completely destroys everything for text editing once you learn how to use it. (And it's free).
