Little thieves.

I live on a corner lot, so the kids wander through my yard stealing anything I haven't nailed down or locked up.

The status quo.

Yesterday, this got really weird. I was cleaning my mag wheels with Castrol SuperClean. If you've ever used superclean, you know that this stuff will clean anything. That includes removing skin if you get any on you, and I think if you got any in your eyes, it would blind you. It does burn exposed aluminum. This stuff is caustic as hell.

Got a phone call. I went inside for ten minutes and the wanna be gangster (12 year olds) crew were out shooting this stuff at each other with my squirt bottle.

Of course they took off when I came out. They did manage to spray a quart of the stuff on each other. I don't think any blindness happened, but I'll bet they have some pretty nasty skin burns today.

Now I feel kind of stupid for leaving the stuff out, but I never thought about it.

I really don't know whether I'm mad at the kids, worried about them burning the hide off each other, or mad at myself for leaving stuff unnattended in the front yard.

Maybe it'll teach them a lesson about stealing.

Yeah, when they end up in the hospital with first-degree burns on their arms and faces, they'll think twice about messing with things that aren't theirs.

Dad and I have used SuperClean to clean the concrete on the front porch. That's some awesome shtuff.

Maybe it'll teach them to read stuff before they play with random chemicals.

Maybe the little bastards will melt into little greasespots and you'll never see them again.

Best case scenario.

I'd be more worried about the parents being litigious. If you have to have a fence up around your swimming pool, then maybe there's some law about leaving out toxic chemicals in your yard.

I wouldn't think the parents would have a case since the kids trespassed, but who knows...

Pools were made for fun, so the courts see that as the owner is responsible for keeping the pool safe. Bottles were made to hold liquid, come with warning labels, and were not made for fun. I doubt the parents would have a case.

I think it serves them right. What the parents should be thinking is, "Why haven't I brought my kid up to have some respect for other people and their property?"
I don't know what the law is over there but I'd pretty much think that as they were messing with things that weren't theirs then they deserve whatever harm comes to them.

the law here, as i understand it, is that if someone trespasses onto your property (which must have no trespassing warnings) you are legally allowed to beat the shit out of them, if you so wish, now how stealing affects that i have no clue.

I hate everyone, so you don't have to.

trespassing begins when you ask them to leave. You do not need signs. If they refuse to leave they are trespassing and you have a legal right to defend your property. Each state has different allowances as to what forms of defense are appropriate.

Here you can't shoot them unless they are in your house. You are allowed to use reasonable force to eject them across your property line. The way the courts and cops act though, I don't think I'd do it. Reasonable force has a broad interpretation, usually favoring the criminals.

I get a little annoyed sometimes. It seems like the parents won't stop them, and the courts don't do anything about theft usually.

Then they grow up and turn 18 and find out the rules changed, and off to prison..... hmmmm......

You bring up a good point - they're minors, meaning they can get away with a hell of a lot more shit, plus I would advise against using any 'force' against them for this reason. Generally speaking, (at least where I live,) the law says regardless of the minor's crime, an adult is not allowed to touch a minor in a harmful way unless defending his own person or keeping the minor from hurting himself or others. Basically you'd be stuck waiting for cops. The fence idea sounded good.

@ sgt:

very nice!

@ Too:

but wouldn't other countries view our wall the way we viewed Germany's Berlin Wall? Plus it's a hell of a distance we have to cover on Mexico's boarder.

yep, probably would, we still need one, it'd need to go underground too, say... about 100ft under.

difference between a US border wall and the berlin wall:

US border wall is to keep people out.
Berlin wall was to keep people in.

That wall wouldn't be dividing this country in half. It would be separating two totally different countries.

Damn, that IS a wall.

Again though, as Too Damn Much said, it would need to go deep underground, and would need to be extremely long to cover our boarder. Would the cost be worth the benefits? Maybe we could pay the illegal Mexican aliens to build it for a low wage. Then everyone would be happy.

I'd like to introject something here, on the note of illegal immigrants, and them coming back.
well... basically, one of my friends has a father (in law) that owns a roofing company, his workers are all spanish except for my friend (who is the only one getting paid a fair price) and so is his wife, now here's where it gets to be how you say? Juicy? he recently took a trip to mexico and left his wife there (they're really not happy and yes it was deliberate) THE VERY NEXT DAY, she came back. clearly something needs doing.
