yeah, as i said the only scaling mechanism in wa3 uses resampling, so it will always be fuzzy. on the other hand, if it wasn't fuzzy it would be blocky and distorted at irregular sizes, so it's probably the best choice... it would be silly to change a whole area of the engine just to accomodate the "classic" skin - this is the kind of bloat people keep complaining about.

the double size was taken from wa2, and i guess it retains its behaviour, which is the toggle. obviously this doesn't really "work" in irregular sizes...

Just for clarity's sake . . .
there is no such thing as Winamp 2.89
Current public release is v2.81
There's an internal dev build labelled as 2.85 which isn't publically available, though this is just 2.90beta2 without the Media Library and Video.
The next public release will be v2.90, currently available in beta here:
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=129443

But there is no 2.89,
so if you've got a copy, then it's either an illegal hack or a hoax.

[edit]
Aah, seems like Mr. Nulsoft has pissed off one of the moderators, lol.
His status mysteriously changed to "banned"
(it was Junior Member when I first saw his post)

WA3 still sucks

I've once complained about WA3 a few months ago and they said everythig would be corrected in the next version but this "new version" really is slow to come, it must have been 6 months since WA3 is out and it's still "newer than new".

Did you try one of the internal dev builds yet?
#498 is lightning fast, though #491 is reportedly the most stable.

It's possible that there might not be another public release of Winamp3...
though nothing's confirmed or definite yet.

No, virtlink. That is pure fallacy.
People aren't banned for those reasons.
They are only banned for the reasons stated in the forum rules.

Nulsoft was banned (not by me, I've only ever banned 3 people/trolls in my whole 3 years of being here) for promoting a non-existent / illegal / hacked version of Winamp, which he claimed was v2.89.
He did this in all 4 of his posts, one of which even included a screenshot attachment where it says "Winamp 2.89" in the About box (note, this thread was moved to our Evidence Locker and is no longer publically accessible).

Sure, it's possible that it was just a doctored 2.81 screenshot,
but it was the principle of the issue which mattered.

Winamp 2.9x is Nullsoft's newest product (see above), and then Winamp5 (working title only, wa2 vs wa3 hybrid), so Winamp3 will be taking a back seat for the time being.
I think you'll find that over 90% of users (including the forum moderators and devteam) do not deny that there are problems with the rushed public release, albeit some of these problems still tend to be system-specific.
Though, as stated many times before, most (if not all) of the issues with Winamp3 v1.0 (public release build #488) are addressed and fixed in the internal builds, and these internal builds will still continue to be released.

In effect, this entire thread will soon be redundant.
tf

ps. by the way, if that was meant to be a joke,
then you forgot to include the smilies

Dear Zootm, Forum King ,

Also: > it would be silly to change a whole area of the engine just to accomodate the "classic" skin

Not just the classic skin. It's happening in Default too, and I assume it will happen to any skin at a size other than 100%.

Well, I'm not insisting on anything. And no, you didn't say I was. But I just want to submit my vote. Like my Grandmother once said, "A job well done is a job completed." And then she made me clean up my fuzz.

> obviously [the toggle] doesn't really "work" in irregular sizes...

Ditto what Grandma said. I don't envy the person who has to figure out the flow chart on that function. At the moment though, it doesn't seem as if one was used when the function was created. A variable function has been created, which includes a Doublesize checkmark. In all but two special sizes out of an infinite variety, the Doublesize checkmark doesn't work. Maybe it would be as easy as changing its name to conform to what it does.

OK, hows this: The name could change, depending on what size the screen is. At 100%, the name could be "Doublesize" with an empty checkbox. At 200%, the name could be "Doublesize" with a checked checkbox. At any other size, the name could be "Return to 100%," with an empty checkbox.

More importantly, the variable size is a tremendous delight. All I've ever wanted is to fit my Main window and my EQ window side-by-side, and have them fit the width of my screen, exactly. With WA3, I can do it (and they "Snap"), and I wouldn't want to give that up .

So don't give up.

Gracias, again.

That's as elegant an answer to it as I've heard. I'll make that a "Request For Enhancement" filing on bugzilla, which is as close to actually putting the feature into the program as any of us non-employees will come .

my rant:

Wow a 30 page bitch thread. Amazing. Yah know I did pay for winamp once so I am entitled to "bitch". I guess the lackluster response for winamp3 resulted in an update for winamp 2.xx...

But mad props for winamp 2.xx. one hell of a indestructible program.

I really hope you guys make Winamp '5' have the speed of 2.X, perfect cross-compatibility with 2.X skins, and have some of the major things of Winamp 3 (Multiple Playlists for example). I'm loving 2.9 at the moment.

Realize That Winamp Is No Longer Better Than Mediaplayer

When is everyone here gonna realize that winamp is no longer better than media player, dont get me wrong i have been a fan of Winamp since it came out. Windows has now copied or simulated Winamp to the point where is just as good or better than Winamp, even the visual effects of Media Player is the old Winamp plugin (the greatest visual plug in ever, so great i cant remember the name but if your in this forum even reading this you know what im talking about) not only but the SRS plug in for media gives even more of an advantage. Come on ppl we all know that video on Winamp sux ass and it doesnt play divx well. This is just a game played by Winamp with this BS winamp3 release because they know that computers, audio cards and Microsoft themselves have overcome that digital music hump to where it no longer has to rely on Winamp, this hump wouldnt have been overcome so soon with out the creation of Winamp. I just realized 10 minutes ago that the only reason i use Winamp i cuz of the name and me being faithful to the software, knowing dam well I love the DEFAULT 3d effect of media player and the TRUBASS well.....
So ppl im here to let you know that its OK to admit how good MediaPlayer 9 really is and that its ok to let go. And in the good ol words of the greatest creation to the human imagination STAN LEE

in the preferences window, there's bookmarks, system, internet, audio and all the other tabs. there is no plugins / output tab. the mp3 converter tells me to click on it, and it's not there, no tabs for it, and it's not in the subsections either

I don't know what you're talking about, zootm:

Put this in notepad, and save it as an html file:

<html><head></head><body>test<img src="http://forums.winamp.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=936591">test2</body></html>

It works fine (though not on these forums)!

Perhaps a mod should replace that image with a small GIF that says "bandwidth stealer"!

Kind of, except I don't think he was using it for being hosted here. There's another attachment of his that's got over 10,000 downloads - I don't think that's from the Winamp forums.

I know why I shouldn't use Realplayer, but I wanted to listen to the radio in Winamp3 -- somehow clicking through brought up Realplayer, and I noticed that it was using a lot less memory than Winamp3 (Winamp3 seems to be using about 4 times as much memory as Realplayer right now on my system).

Any comments?

Thanks.
