Explorer Playlist for WA5 (Folder View)

Feature request :

- Ability to view, browse, play and enqueue folders in the Media Library (just like Windows Explorer).

There's an WA3 component that can do this (Schweiten's Explorer Playlist), but I haven't found a Winamp 5 plugin yet.

Checkout gUSB.

It will add all drives connected to your computer to the Media Library for browsing.

Does it work with folders in a specific location? (e:\audio\albums\)

...or only drives listed in 'my computer'?

Any drive you can access on your PC; network, fixed, removable.

Why? It's already possible with gUSB. Third party plug-ins are around for a reason..

if i can get the time away from work and things, i'll make it so preview 4 of my playlist plugin will copy the tracks into the current playlist for the explorer playlist mode just so there is something to work with

will push this through in the next day or so

Exactly! With gUSB you have no tree like structure you can browse.

Wow.. it makes me insane.. -O-

It will be the best if ML support folderview -type managing natively. We do all thing within ML, not PL.
PL is just the sub-manager working with ML for its purpose.

Awesome, can you put the right column of Explorer Playlist in ML's left column?

as the code is it's fair portable, with the part adding the files to the playlist/view that would need to be changed so... let me get my plugin preview out to check the code and once it's confirmed it works i can then look at porting it over to be a native ml plugin though i'm not sure what you mean about the library's left column? (piccy maybe)

i thought that's what you meant (but part hoped i was wrong). the issue i see is getting the folders listed in the left-hand pane but it's possible to do just hopefully it wouldn't mess up the existing behaviour. i'll have to have a look into this and see what it does.

if not then it would be easy to put the directory part into a middle column and then have the album listing as shown

DrO, you've already shown us that you're a true genius. I've complete faith in you that you can make this work. Thanks in advance!

edit : maybe it's possible to split the ML's left window pane (instead of creating window pane in the middle), so the explorer tree doesn't interfere with the stuff that's already there.

There is one thing to remember.
When applying folderview, please do not display every folder but just defined in ML (Media scanner setting)

Showing every folder in drive Makes this function same as gUSB.

The last stage of folderview is through query builder.
Thinking current ML, adding folderview panel to left window is not so good idea.

It will be more good to add a new view of folder-style album.

That's the way of not disturbing current ML structure.

EX)

The item "Audio" in Local Media at ML is artist/album view.

--> If it is possible to making the type of artist/folder-style album view, it's the simplest way to integrate it.

Show every folder, querying ML's music database would take too much time (it's just too slow).

It may be not so slow as you think.
Folderview or whatever should use the database of ML.
Before Using ML, we must scan once to browse it properly.

Querying ML is based upon the prescanned database in my thought.

There is preview #3 of Extended Playlist by DrO.
Just try it, and you may know what i'm saying.

(It reads every folder to get metadata contained in. It's much slow as you can see.)

It should use ML's database only when you click on a folder in the left window pane, not when browsing the directory tree. The 'Folder Explorer' should display every folder (regardless of it's content). Quering ML's to find out if a folder contains audio/video (so the 'Folder Explorer' would hide folders that contain no audio/video) would be too slow. I wasn't very clear in my previous post, sorry for that.

Hmm..

Is it really necessary?
Are there any reasons to show every folder in drive?

Just install MeXP, and Look at it.
http://www.mexp.dk

Once scanned, ML would know the folder containing valid files.

Thanks for the link to Mexp, its exactly what Ive been looking for. No need for gusb, extended playlists, tool tips and hundreds of other plugins which dont quite do what I want. It has various different views including folder and artist/album type views.

I just wish it either used the media library database instead of its own, or better, the media library incorporated all of its functionality. As it is, there are some performance issues with the playlist - it does allow you to set it to take control of the playlist which is good, but not the most elegant solution. @veej007, you should try enabling this option.
