Winamp Crashes with certain MP3 ID3v2 Tags
Winamp 5.666 (build 3516)
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins Language Pack: English Skin: Bug occurs with all of Bento, Winamp Modern and Classic skins OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) AND Windows 8.1 (64-bit) Locale: English US CPU: Intel i5-2450M @ 2.50GHz Memory: 8GB RAM Graphics: Intel HD Graphics Sound: Realtek HD Audio DirectX 11 Problem: Playing certain MP3 files causes Winamp to crash, disabling "Read ID3v2 Tags" in in_mp3.dll fixes the issue, as does removing the ID3v2 Tag from the offending file in a 3rd party program. The problem doesn't happen with 5.65 Method of Reproduction: Open MP3 file with disagreeable id3 tag, immediately winamp crashes with "Winamp has stopped working / Close Program" dialogue box Example of MP3 file that causes crash attached |

Build 3516 does not deal well with tags
Finally I unistalled winamp 5.6.6 (build 3516), as far as I know the final release, and re-installed the previous 5.6.6 (build 3507) I still had the installation file, then everything returned to "normal". I can play any mp3 file. With the newest release I cannot play mp3 files generated by Lame encoder using Nero Suite 12 withe tags Nero creates for the file (I'm converting into mp3 files all my cd collection since the 1980's), however with build 3516 I can play all my music library files without crashes
On the other hand if I open those files using mp3Tag pro and then save them as mp3 again something changes in the files and build 3516 can then deal with those files and play them again. Weirdo weirdo!!. What tag is the problem?... who knows!. I can upload one of those files if someone wants to do further research. In the meantime my workaround is to use buld 3507 Thanks Oscar |

you would have been better off replacing in_mp3.dll in your install from the one posted 2 up from your post than going back to build 3507.

I have complaint about something that is not a bug, more annoying behavior and is not characteristic for other softwares:
I often keep opened 4 programes:Winamp v5.666.Lite(Classic Skin)administrator account, shared settings, Windows Media Player v11,Windows Explorer And Notepad, maximized, and they are all positioned in Taskbar as Taskbar Buttons.I listen intermittently Winamp, than Windows Media Player, etc. But,when I want Winamp to appear I exess Taskbar Button by pressing Windows Button + Tab,select Winamp Task and than press ENTER to make it appear in a first row, but it starts to minimize, instead of appearing maximized like other tasks. It minimizes to Taskbar and then I must to reselect it again by Win Button + Tab and than ENTER to maximize it,so I late to mix up 2 songs correctly on time, the song fades out. |

Hi Sasha79,
Try the older Alt + Tab method to switch between running apps, instead of the Win + Tab method. Windows 10 Home 64-bit v21H2 desktop - Logitech Z906 5.1 speaker system |

I read post 261, and I suspect you can whitelist or blacklist given usb drives, or perhaps drive letters anyway, via winamp ini files.
but can u explain a bit more? winamp shouldn't be scanning something automatically just b/c you connect it, and have you checked your "watch folders" settings? -Winamp 5.666 (5.6.6.3516) - clean install (and re-install as well), no extra plugins, addons
-English lang pack -Asus P5K, intel Core 2 E6750, 4x1Gb Corsair XMS2 -Windows Vista Enterprise x64 SP1, locale:HU -Asus EN8800GTS, Nvidia detonator 34.89 -Integrated HD audio, driver: 6.1.7601 -DX11 - When I start winamp and start scanning local media (only one folder with lots of mp3) (smart+ or default) it always crashes about after 3-4 mins. - When I start to play a single album it crashes few mins later. - When I do nothing just start winamp it always collapses in few mins. I tried to change media scanning options, change output settings... but my favorite player always crashes. Please fix this annoying thing. Thx. |

Thank you.
It was a very fast answer. It works well now. Winamp eats all of my mp3 files with one click... more than 28k It doesn't crash yet, the sound is good. I use it (make playlists, play songz, rescan folder, install addons, etc.) till tomorrow night non-stop and I'll share my observations. Once again, thank you. |

I'm not sure if the above post is what I'm talking about (it probably is), but the "force mono" function doesn't seem to work.
Options > Preferences > Playlist > Playback > Playback tab > Force Mono I have tried on a few different file types; the audio plays in stereo whether this option is checked or not. Don't forget to live before you die. ![]() |

DLPB's issue is something else where artifacts can be heard when force mono is enabled. maybe it's related to your issue, i'm not sure as i've tried force mono and other than some small artifacts, it works as expected with some of the files i've tried. either way, it's on the 'to check' list, but it might be a while before i get to a position i can even look into it.

I can understand that it might not be high on a priority list. I personally only rarely use that feature when I'm working with a mono karaoke system at a venue where I don't have control over the fact that the house system is wired in mono. No rush.

Hi!
I know it's kind of to late and maybe pointless too, but here is my bug report anyway. Version 5.66, the latest one, it's unable to queue files trough context menu. When I do that - it starts playing immediately... I didn't succeeded to enqueue any files... did reinstall few times, but nothing helped. It works perfectly in v.5.65 |

v5.66 had issues like you're mentioning from that i remember.
the current release is v5.666 build 3516 (http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....74929#download) and the 2 required plug-in updates (http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....373755#updates). and what you do you mean "I know it's kind of to late and maybe pointless too" - Winamp was sold and thus saved so it is now possible (to look into and fix issues towards the next release which is likely to be in 2015). though depending on what the actual issue is (as i'm not 100% from your description), it could be possible to patch it beforehand (like has already been done with the links noted in my mine and koopa's posts). |

@cesarLamega
I know you said you downloaded 5.666 from elsewhere and it worked, but I've deleted that info from your post, mainly because the imageshack links weren't working properly... But basically, you needed to install 5.666 from the recommended provided link and then apply the update patches after (see first post in thread for details). The official in_mp3 patch would've fixed your problem. |

This is the worst thing about winamp, if this is fixed, then it's my audio player for life but it's so god damn annoying that I'm gonna switch to the even shittier foobar

Winamp 5.666 (build 3516) with both of the plugin updates
Old installation (worked flawlessly since .3516 came out) with Lyrics Plugin (the bug occurs regardless of it, though) Language Pack: Italian (Problem also occurs with English) Skin: Bug occurs with Bento and Bento Big skins OS: Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) Locale: Italy CPU: Intel i5-2500K Memory: 8GB RAM Graphics: NVidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti Sound: GigaByte GF116 HD Audio Controller DirectX 11 Problem: Whenever I start reproducing any music file with any Bento skin enabled, the popup in the lower-right corner of the screen freezes, causing Winamp to stop responding. The track plays correctly, but the program never stops being hung up. (Thanks in advance for the help!) Method of Reproduction: 1. Open any MP3 file with Bento active 2. Wait... |

I suggest you use the Winamp Info Tool (link below) to create an extended report of your configuration and use the advanced reply editor to attach a zipped file of it to a post. There may be something (in it or not in it) about your configuration causing this issue for you. You may need to expand or scroll the reply editor's attachment window (to the right and left) to see all the options for attaching a file. Also look at the preferences in the Info Tool. They let you select the format for the report, remove your user profile name (for privacy), and other things related to controlling the generation of the report. http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=328932 Windows 10 Home 64-bit v21H2 desktop - Logitech Z906 5.1 speaker system |

Hi Evil Crusader,
I don't see anything obviously wrong in your configuration. The lyrics plug-in and the language pack would be my prime suspects, but you already said that they are not causing the problem. You do have a number of official components that I don't use. I can only suggest disabling them (with Winamp shutdown, change the file extensions from "dll" to "off") to see if the problem goes away. If it does, then re-enable them (one at a time) to see which one or ones cause the problem to return. The following plug-ins are no longer working due to expired licenses with AOL and the new owner (Radionomy) will not be renewing their licenses, so there is no need to leave them enabled. ml_autotag.dll, ml_nowplaying.dll, and ml_plg.dll The following are also not in my configuration, so I don't know if they may be involved or not. If you don't use the tray control feature or the various kinds of portable media players, then there is no need to have them enabled either. gen_tray.dll, pmp_activesync.dll, pmp_android.dll, pmp_ipod.dll, pmp_njb.dll, pmp_p4s.dll, and pmp_wifi.dll There are a few more having to do with the CD 'rip and burn' feature (and the Sonic Burning Engine) and podcasts, but no one (to my knowledge) has reported them causing this kind of problem. Something may not have installed correctly, so a re-install (clean or 'in-place') may help. Windows 10 Home 64-bit v21H2 desktop - Logitech Z906 5.1 speaker system |

Winamp Play/Pause (C) Bug
System:
Winamp 5.666 (build 3516) Skin: N/A OS: Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) Locale: English US CPU: Intel I5-2300 2.8GHz Memory: 6GB RAM Graphics: Geforce GTX 590 Sound: Via High Definition Audio Problem: A file must be played in Winamp before the C (play/pause) key will work. The C key should work as Winamp is open, as does the X (play) key, if the default playlist that is loaded is not empty. Method of Reproduction: 1. Make sure Winamp is closed. 2. Open Winamp (at least one item must be in the default/saved playlist). 3. Click Winamp to make sure it's focused. 3. Press C. (Bug: Nothing happens.) 4. the 'C' action is purely a pause/un-pause action so it will not do anything if Winamp is not already playing. so i see nothing wrong.

ATF $trim function crashes Winamp if argument does not exist
1. Enter this ATF string on the 'Titles' page in the Winamp Preferences:
code: 2. Find a MP3 or FLAC file that does not have a comment field in its tag. 3. Drag and drop the file to the Playlist Editor and observe Winamp handle the file normally. 4. CLEAR THE PLAYLIST EDITOR. If you dont't, you run the risk of not being able to start Winamp until the ATF string is replaced from outside Winamp. (eg. from a back-up or clean install or editing winamp.ini) 5. Change the ATF string (notice the addition of the $trim function) to this: code: Answer "Yes" or "No" to the invitation to rename the playlist entries. It won't matter which is selected. 6. Drag and drop the same file to the Playlist Editor and observe Winamp crash. My pertinent settings Preferences > Plug-ins > Input > Configure in_mp3.dll > ID3 Tags > ID3 Tag Reading > check-mark "Read ID3v.2 tags" Preferences > Media Library > Local Library > Watch Folders > Metadata Reading Settings > Configure > All, no guessing Preferences > General Preferences > Titles > check-mark "Use advanced title formatting when possible" Preferences > General Preferences > Titles > Metadata Reading > default Windows 10 Home, 64 bit, Winamp 5.666, Bento Skin |

When you click next to (right side) the "average" ratings of an album in the album view, all the single track ratings are deleted. Thereby it doesn't matter how far the cursor is away from the rating, as long as it is on the same height.
I think such interactions should only be possible, when you click directly on the ratings or use right click. Especially because you can't undo it.. |
