Ah, OutlawJim. I never really discussed anything but my complete insanity with you, SO THERE! HA! Fooled you didn't I? It's me! Great to see you've quit smoking Baking Soda, although I still have that pewter rug I put on my head last Christmas!

Glad you're back! I guess. But don't tell the twins about the seafood in the hubcap, I'm still waiting to cash the check.

So, anyone I know still around? Hi again guys!

Thought rather than make a new thread I'd bump this one. Apologies if that was the wrong thing to do.

Seems this place isn't as active as it was back in the day, but I'd love to get in contact with anyone who I used chat to Hopefully someone will see! (Also looking through your own post history is not something I'd recommend. Highly embarrassing haha!)

G'day Rik. Long time, no whatever.

I agree about the embarrassment associated with looking through one's own post history – particularly the very early days. Yikes.

I'm still around, but I'm relatively new. I'm still not a decade old here! I will be in less than a month though.

Looking at my first posts makes me feel old now.
I was 16 and using a Celeron 333MHz machine running windows 98se with a dial-up connection.

I was 18-ish. 533MHz Celeron, ditto the rest. I was, though, the first in my county to get cable internet. The joy of downloading a song in two or three seconds, opposed to sometimes 30 minutes due to shitty copper lines.

Man, a decade goes by so fast. Wonder where everyone ended up.

I am so important I feel the need to let it be known like a liberal discovering the internets for the first time. Uh hur hur hur. I also wash myself with a rag on a stick.

Very good to see the awakenings so to speak.

Since it was a sidebar disucssion, I'll help the derailing a bit.
When I signed up in 2006, I was still using a computer that I had bought in 2001, which was quite high end at the time, but weak in 2006:
Pentium 4; 1.3 GHz
128MB RD RAM (two 64MB sticks), later upgraded to 384 (two additional 128MB sticks)
20GB HDD, eventually added an additional 60GB, plus later external 120 and 250 storage drives

I kept it until 2008 when I built a new box that I use today, and oddly enough, with modern technology focus going more towards mobile technology, this computer is still quite high-spec despite being 8 years old. I hope that desktop computers stay in the mainstream, or at least enough to be an easy-to-continue option. I just don't like doing much on mobile phones, tablets, or even laptops.

Every time I see these "they always come back" threads, I get scared thinking that I'll hear bad news about someone. I hope everyone is well. If you're not, post anyway. You're among friends.

128MB? The computer I had from 2003-08 had 512, which was terrible enough - edit an image and everything else would get swapped out.
The current one (which wasn't high end in '08) is still doing fairly well too. Its biggest problem is that it's still got XP on the Windows side so I have to do all net related things in Linux.

Current (from 2008) is:
Core 2 Quad 2.83GHz
16GB RAM
Was 1TB, but now 8TB internal hard drive space
Vista Home Premium x64, then Windows 7 Ultimate x64 when released; not happy with 8 or 10 so I stay 7.
Old computer went from ME to XP. Prior to that computer, it was always library, begging, and borrowing; didn't have a computer of my own.

edit - I still have a Pentium MMX laptop from a long, long time ago, but it was given to me to be used for taking notes on Word; saved to built-in floppy drive. It also has a CD drive, separate mic in and audio outs, ethernet, faxmodem, docking station, and infa-red wireless technology. COM port, parallel port (no usb on laptop, just on docking station), and VGA video out. It still works quite well with Windows 98 SE, Winamp 2.x, and Office 97. Sound is great, and believe it or not, it's not slow, so it makes a good garage music player. I think it originally came with Windows 95 and Corel Word Perfect (and the other Corel stuff), no office.
