Are we still alive?
The GD family has been running for over 2 decades now. Did anyone become famous? Did anyone become a millionaire on bitcoin? Start up rebels in Silicon Valley? Someone become a doctor? Local, state or federal politician? Visit every country on earth or been to space? Are we all just dying off, now too old with worldly care and are just waiting for the end? I miss the righteous angst of naive digital infants we feigned to be. Widdy gone, Viper gone. I just lost my hair.....unfortunately TX sun is brutal. Back to slumber.

Sign me up for "just waiting for the end".
The search for the ultimate signature continues apace. I have journeyed from the peaks of Nepal to the depths of oceanic trenches. I have crossed deserts, jungles, swamps, savannas, steppes and frozen wastelands. I have consulted with seers, swamis, sages, scholars and savants. The peregrination proceeds purposefully. |

Still around, going a little bit loopy maybe but still holding together.
I don't think I've quite reached famous, or even gotten close, but I do get to work with yahtzee of Zero Punctuation fame so.. ...yay? Member most in need of SpellCheck Lifetime Achievement Award I'm a Twitch Streamer these days, it's weird. |

I just "discovered" this forum 10 minutes ago cause I lost all my favorite skins and had to re-download so I googled and this place came up. Then I discovered I have been a member since 2002 and haven't posted in 3 and a half years. I was drunk and high a lot back then so its no big surprise. But nothing will ever replace Winamp as my favorite music player on my PC, nothing else even comes close to how awesome it is.
When I got my first PC on Win 95 I can remember 3 things I discovered that blew my mind, Winamp, MIRC and ICQ (Wait.. you mean I can use ICQ to transfer MP3s to to and from people on my contact list?? Even if one song took a half-hour it still blew my mind, the song was mine forever!) Anyhow, I have added this forum to my favorites and will try and come around at least every year or so. ![]() Bum4evr |

hgnis, are you still with duet?
ShyShy and Shy Jr have visited their folks in Killeen (near Ft Hood) a couple of times in recent years; if you're still in TX when they and/or I next visit, we should meet up. No fame or infamy to speak of on our part. We had our 15-year wedding anniversary yesterday. I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up. "My heart hates uggos." –J.D. |

I just got reminded that I've been a member of the Winamp Forums for 18 years.
I've been using the same audio player for two decades, across eighteen different computers, and twelve different OS's. I don't think there's been a single bit of software I've used more consistently. [edit] And apparently this is my 8000th post here. Member most in need of SpellCheck Lifetime Achievement Award I'm a Twitch Streamer these days, it's weird. |

Congratulations, Vie!
Winamp runs on anything, I remember stripping it down to fit on a 3.5 inch floppydrive (Preserving AVS and keeping space for like 5 presets) because we couldn't intall programs, and play MP3 files from the CD-Rom drive Jesus loves you [yes, you] so much, he even died for you so that you will not need to die, but live forever |

I can't believe in these decades nobody has really done anything to make a better music player, especially when you consider visualizations. I hope PC use stays strong enough to get what I need to never lose Winamp. With all things digital moving to phones, I get worried that PCs will fade too much to support a usable Winamp. I hope that never happens.

I'm using Winamp since 1999, when I had only 1 mp3 on my 120 MB HDD at that time.
![]() Meanwhile I finished my university degree, MSc. After lived in few EU countries, moved to Australia. Crossed the globe, never stop using it. ![]() I got married, have kids, and recently upgraded one abandoned Winamp visualizer plugin and uploaded it here. It was broken since decades, but luckily found the sources, fixed and added more features ![]() During the last 20 years I tried some other players but never found anything better than Winamp. Now I am on v5.666 added ~30 DSP effects, ~20 visualization plugins with ~3500 avs visual effects, ~30 skins ![]() Most valuable DSP effect is the 'Equalizer by nevi' which is graphical equalizer that allow to set frequencies with precision of 1Hz ![]() |

In 1999, a 120MB HDD would have been very small. Windows 95 needed 50MB by itself. Windows 98 needed nearly 200MB. If you were trying to run Winamp on a computer that only had a 120MB HDD, that would have been difficult, considering a HDD like that would have been accompanied with other hardware that would have been too weak to run Winamp effectively. We're likely talking pre-pentium days here. The computer would have been pretty old even then if it only had a 120MB HDD.

Every now and then I come back to have a look here and it's always nice to see how the Winamp Forums are one thing in this world that seems constant. Amazing really that they've lasted so long as they are, through changes of ownership and website redesigns. It'll be a sad day when some future decision inevitably sees them wiped away. The only thing that's really changed over the past two decades is that there are a lot more threads reminiscing about the old days, now.
This was really the first forum I read or posted on. Still so many of the same faces here now. I'm sure we've all grown up a great deal, lives moving on. Yet here we are, still dropping in to say hello. |

Time for my semi-annual update.
A few years ago I got a degree in Game Art. I've had a few jobs in the industry now, all underwhelming, overworking and underpaying. I still live in the UK, I've been split up with Raz for around 9 years now. Haven't spoken to him in some time but he travels the world and writes songs, a few lines of my poetry made it into some of his original works. I hear he's doing well. I've done a lot of travelling myself, been to Singapore, Japan, Norway, California, Spain, and probably some more, it's hard to keep track. I live on my own in a small-ish town in Northern England, where I've been since my last videogame industry job evaporated. I've been doing freelance and just kinda getting by. Recently though, I've decided that I've had enough of the industry and want to pursue getting into veterinary medicine if I can; Something I never believed in myself enough to do, but always wanted to. So this year I'm getting the GCSE grades I require to apply to a foundation year course that's meant for "mature students" without the A-Levels. I'm also finally learning how to drive, at 31. I didn't get the best start in life and I'm sort of delayed, but I'm still young enough that I can turn all this around, I hope. I'm not sure what the future holds. Long-time members know I've sort of always been estranged from my family and that hasn't changed. All I've been able to do is just make sure that I'm not the one being the problem -- My door is always open, they've just yet to walk through. It's nice to see you, hgnis, Vie, swingdjted, iomegajaz, old and quite mad, and Warrior of the Light. All names I've seen floating around for a long, long time. I know Widdy passed away, but what's this about Viper? just as feathery as ever | portfolio | a poignant quote |

Hi Raven, I always smile when someone comes back, even if it's just for a visit. Ah well, your post could reflect the state of these forums too. They're all welcome but hardly anyone visits.
I see you found the thread about Viper, yes we'll have to continue this life without him, too. My brother in law has worked with animals too but like the software industry, too much to do, not enough money to do it with. I hope your can make your salary cover more than just your monthly bills. Jesus loves you [yes, you] so much, he even died for you so that you will not need to die, but live forever |

Got a couple of pairs of boots that need polishing and I just keep forgetting they need doing.
Used to be on top of my boots (DM's) in the days before I came down with arthritis, I rarely wear them because they're a pain to get on and off. |

I'm kind of alive I guess. I don't work at Walmart any more. Now I put surgical packs together for area hospitals. I've been engaged for 2 years and still haven't set a date. No kids. I bought a 2003 Outback a few months ago but I still have my old Corolla.
I've grown old and really cranky. Lol Probably where my gray beard hair came from. Only 35 y years old. There is no sig. |
