Winamp hangs when playing songs

Hi all!

Long time Winamp user, first time forum poster.

Something got corrupted between this morning when I last used Winamp,
and just an hour ago when I tried to use it again. The program seems
to start up OK, but when I click on either an artist or a song in the
library, Winamp hangs up. I've tried to do a quick uninstall and a complete
uninstall but when I restore my previous settings, it hangs again. I stop
short of totally starting over because I have about 20 playlists
that I really don't want to lose. I am running the latest and greatest
version of Winamp Pro. Any ideas on how to get around completely starting
from scratch?

Thanks

Hi,

I don't know the difference between 'a complete uninstall' and 'totally starting over'. I thought they were the same thing.

Anyway, playlists are just text files. Copy them to someplace safe.

You can even use the Winamp Backup Tool (link below) to save stuff you don't want to have to recreate (library database, playlists, configuration files, etc), assuming these things are not what's corrupt.

What are you really asking?

Other than what is listed in the playlist editor, which Winamp automatically saves between sessions, all playlists are saved by the user as files with a name and to a location of the user's choice. Many users skip selecting the location part and save to whatever folder Winamp provides for them. Many also pay no attention, or forget, what the folder's name is. The OP said he has 20 playlists (but he may not know where they are).

To make things worst, some playlists save the relative file location info instead of the absolute file location info. The playlists with relative file location info need to be put back where they came from in order for them to point to (find) the right files.
