Half of my .flac files crash WinAmp

Haven't figured this out and it's been a couple years. Using 5.8... Where to start trying to figure this out, seems to not make a difference whether I have Allow 24Bit checked or not.

what is the bitrate of the flac files?

You have asked the same question earlier

Each Thursday a new show on Celtica Radio with Darkwave music.

Nope, it's not a radiostation just a non stop darkwave music stream

I queue a bunch of .flac in Winamp and as long as I don't play one that crashes Winamp I can see the file Info, and in Format Info window the ones that are crashing are Bits per sample: 24. These are all the ones that are crashing. Seems that no matter whether I select in Preferences: Playback: Audio Allow 24bit or not makes any difference.

I found I could convert the 24bit FLAC to 16 bit WAV using dbPowerAmp, then back to flac retains the 16 Bit and they play just fine, not sure if I am losing any audio quality this way, but hey it's working until I can figure out why I can't open any 24bit flac.

To be quite frank, there is no sense in expecting support for Winamp 5.8 (as Radionomy just shat it out in 'response' to a build leak), so your only options are to go back to Winamp 5.666 Redux which plays a test FLAC 24-Bit file I created fine, or to try out WACUP (also plays said file fine)

Thanks much for the response! I hadn't heard of WACUP until now so I will do what you suggest.

in theory, you shouldn't lose anything going from flac to wav to flac, but it also shouldn't be necessary. (u could run some test files and compare the waveforms with some software to see what percent of difference, if any, there is)

u might consider trying to make ur 24 bit flac a 24 bit alac (without a wav stage) and see if it plays ok. (iows, a straight conversion, which if it goes to wav first, is transparent to you)

I've made the 24 bits flac files work on 5.8 changing the libFLAC.dll file back to one obtained from the old from version 5.666
