Are songs extracted from DVD-video legal for internet radio broadcast?

I figure the answer to this question is probably no, but it's worth the asking.

Depends on if they have a copyright.

its a very open ended question.

In most countries, it's a "no" - even if the station in question holds licenses for internet radio.

For example, in the USA, SoundExchange, BMI, SESAC and ASCAP want money for musical work. But when you get into the realm of audio from videos, you're going to also probably have to deal with the Motion Picture Association of America and/or other video production companies (even if it's just the audio that's used) and heaven knows who else.

Yes, they have a copyright. I'm talking about concert and music video DVD-video.

What if the DVD-video is an import that isn't region encoded? Does that make it even more theoretically complicated?

You should still be licensed if you wish to broadcast copyright music on the internet regardless of the source.

Nick@ss, you are begging the question. Is is possible to legally broadcast audio files extracted from concert or music DVD-video?

It is absolutely legal...

... If you have the correct licensing.

This brings the question... Are you paying the licensing for audio content now? If not do you really care if you are legal with audio from a DVD?

Your mileage may vary!

I'm not the one with the internet radio channel. I'm going to donate some content.

Cool. If the content is yours (as in, you created it and you own all the copyrights) then you can do anything you like with it.

If it's not yours (someone else's work) then it becomes the internet radio channel's responsibility to obtain proper licensing. You won't get in trouble (as long as you donated the originals, and didn't rip a copy).

I was trying to do some homework for the channel in question.
